Wow! these clusters seem way easier to disassemble than I thought, I am about to pick up a 1990 K1500 Cheyenne, and this led light upgrade will be one of the first things I do!
Wow Maq i could fix up my 89.. needs just the same stuff your doing to yours. Also i see your 89 has been repainted it looks great. My 89 started peeling about 2 years after i bought it new in 89. THANKS i will keep watching.
Man you do a great job on your videos. Thanks for taking the time to help others. My 89 Sierra was my dad's and he bought it with about 43,000 on it. It only has 146,000 on it now. C2500. I love to drive this truck. Feels like a REAL truck.
No problem man. I'm having a blast making these videos. And I feel exactly like you do. There is just something about this era truck. I had to sell my C2500 because it was too long for my current driveway. But man, that thing hauled so much drywall for me.
Just doing the same conversion on my '90 Chevy. The LED bulbs only work one way because a diode, as in Light Emitting Diode is a one way switch, in simple terms. Nice truck!
Thanks for the video. My 89 dash is not on at all. If I turn on the lights, then rotate the dash light switch, Wako! goes the gauges. It seems that I have a ground problem. And them LEDs are polarized and +&- must be checked. Thanks again for the vid. CatfishZT
So awesome. I guess you didn't have any trouble with clearance with the bulbs? Thanks a lot. going to do it soon. Oh yeah, were the bulbs directional or could they go in any direction to the sockets? Thanks.
good video! Question: Where does the wire for the gear indicator connect to the steering column? I put in a new(er)steering column but forgot to record where I took that wire off from.
Great video, just did this in my truck using your video for reference. only problem i’m facing now is since swapping clusters i now have a check gauges light on when i drive. just curious if this happened to you too or if it’s a problem with my cluster.
Just found your channel. Have a 1990 GMC Sierra SLE and at night you can barely see the gauges, very annoying. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
I changed out all my lights using your video, and the next day none of the lights work, only check lights, battery, and turn signals. Do you know what it might be?
That's a new one for me. I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of is to make sure that the cluster is seated into the socket fully. But that's it... I can't even think of a fuse that would cause that
@@MaqsVids I will try to take it out again, but yeah, they all worked when I tested it, and when I fully put it in it just stopped working. I don’t thing all LED bulbs would burn out at the same time…
Love your well spoken videos. We have identical trucks and would like to know if you’ve ever come across the issue of the stalk to engage the left turn signal being incredibly difficult? Right works well but the left requires full hand force to lock in place.
Good eye! That wasn't even something I was paying attention to. I had to go back to the first time I took the cluster out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W5M5AvQWhEg.html Apparently I do. I also went through the gears this morning to verify. The non overdrive one was the oddball. I have swapped and tested so many.
Hey! I tried to tag in a short. I tried dimming them and they don't. You can see it in the video. The circuit gets below a certain voltage and the just turn off.
Do you know which way the bulbs had to be turned? I did this on my 88 K1500 and the left turn signal doesn't work. I'm assuming I did the same thing. Just want to make sure I get it right this time.
Man...I wish I did. If I have them out again, I will check with a multimeter. I'll let you know if I do. If I could go back and do it again, I would pay closer attention and document it.
Figured it out. The bulb wires were not touching the leads on the plugs on the board. I bent them out a little and put them back in, I bet that'll fix it. I'll post a video soon showing what I found while I did this.
@@benwrenchin I'm gonna take a look at that too. That makes sense. I'm going to do it with mine next time to see if they work both ways. That would be so much better. Thanks
@@MaqsVids This totally helped. Can't tell if all are fixed, but many that were not working before are now working. Conclusion: LED replacement bulbs do not fit into lead connections correctly and need to be modified to fit the bulb wires better into the socket leads.
Man....that sounds so nice. But, you are way ahead of me. This truck still has some basic stuff I need to tackle. With that said, stay tuned. We think similarly 😉
hey dude you got the wrong gear indicator the old one is a 5 speed R N D 2 1 THE NEW ONE IS FOR A 6 SPEED R N Over Drive, D 2 1. your going to gum up your transmission and you truck .
😯Hey man! Thanks for looking out for me. I think I'm ok though. I didn't change the selector lever or anything on the transmission. The truck and transmission have been running flawlessly for over two years now. But, I will look into it😉
White ones will make the cluster look like in the video, green LEDs will make the cluster a little brighter, richer green than factory, and blue LEDs will make the cluster blue. The individual gauges has green plastic on the back of them so if you want white, red, orange, or any other color than green and blue, you’ll have to remove the clear lens, gauge bezel, and each individual gauge. The speedometer gauge has four screws holding it in and the other gauges each have two screws holding them in. Remove the screws, pull the speedo first, then pull the other gauges out. They just pull out after removing the screws, but be careful remove on the side gauges…either the top or bottom gauge overlaps the other. Can’t remember which one overlaps though. Once you pull the individual gauges out, you’ll see a green diffuser lens made to the back of them. Remove that green plastic with a dremel but be careful to not over do it. Just remove enough green plastic so that the white of the gauges can be seen. One way to check this is by shining a light behind the gauge and checking to see if the light emits white or green from the front.
Hey Man! They are 194 buld LED replacements. The ones I ordered are here. AUXLIGHT T10 921 194 168 912 LED... www.amazon.com/dp/B082NK6TV5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Similar ones on Ebay: ebay.us/Ihgj6y
great video. i have this truck as well and am having an issue with the speedo dropping out. if i pound the dash it comes back online. i sent the cluster off to specmo. they sent it back saying no issue found. i guess the socket that the cluster plugs into must be the issue. anyone else have this problem?
I haven't seen this problem yet. It's a lot easier when you can identity an issue on the cluster side. Let me know if you ever find a fix. One thing I have learned is that if one truck does it, others likely will too
I replaced the cluster with in A donor from the junkyard and it fixed mine. Had the exact same problem. Good luck finding one in a junk yard. eBay would prolly have it
