The gentleman that takes off his hat for the camera at 7.52 minutes is my grandfather's brother Fred mortimore . At one time he was chairman of the teignmouth council.

I've shared this with my cousin. She is a Mancunian by birth but moved down to Teignmouth in her teens as her parents were relocating there - at about the time this would have been filmed. She is still there now, married a local and had a family. I've shared this lovely footage with her - it brings back so many memories. Thank you :)

I love old films showing everyday life like this, a real time capsule. In the Council car park between 7:30-7:40, there's two cars, a Wolseley and a Volvo with suffix "C" numberplate registrations which would place this film no earlier than 1965.

Loved it! Thank you. At the council offices I spotted Ron Doel, Sam Dowsing, Donald Sharpe (Mr Teignmouth) Marjorie Line. Fred Mortimore. Arthur Bladon was Chairman of TUDC from 1965-69 which provides a time frame.

I go down the back beach most days with the dog, it seems nothing changes except fashions and cars. Everything is the same almost.

I would estimate this film having been made in the mid sixties judging from thr vehicles, there is a newish Renault shown outside the council office, introduced into the UK around 1966 - 1967. I recognise the landlord at the London Inn in Shaldon from holidays taken in 1970 - 1971

Thankyou . I'll show this to a couple of people l know . Mike , whose parents ran the London lnn and Chris whose father may be one of the gentlemen attending the council meeting . And l had many games of snooker with Arthur and he was a regular in my mothers pub , the Royal Standard (Now a block of flats )

There is a red R/H drive Renault 16 car in a few shots . These were not introduced to the U.K. market until the autumn of 1965 . Also the Christmas trees adorning the shops and pubs and the cold weather clothing people are wearing in some shots does suggest that we are in Christmas 1965 . It seems it’s a mix of two films where people are wearing clothes for spring and summer . So I think we are looking here at the spring/summer of 1966 too as the C registered cars from 1965 do look well weathered and no D registered cars are in any of the shots

Well spotted with the Renault. I was wondering when they first came to the UK
@tarikwildman

Latest Car registration plates (several) I spotted were "C" at the end denoting August 1965 onwards, so I would guess summer of 1966?

@@michaelparker5510 one of the things I really enjoyed was seeing all the old cars. Frank Howard did a fine job of capturing so much of teignmouth. He must have had a lot of fun being a cinematographer. These old films are absolute treasures.

@@simonhoward8836 Hello Simon! Lovely to hear from you. This video sent me off on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and I was wondering if Frank had taken any films on the trips to the Norfolk Broads that we went on. Auntie Joan had plenty but who knows where they have gone. It would be lovely to get copies if he had. Hope you are well. Cheers Jackie
