This is home movie footage shot in the summer of 1963 on an old Bell and Howell 8mm camera which was purchased circa 1946. The camera was owned by my grandma (my father’s mom) and she did most of the shooting here. Even in 1963, most people did not have a movie camera, and after my grandma died in 1963, the camera was never used again. Probably in part due to the cost of film and replacement bulbs for the projector. Fortunately though, the 8mm film dating from 1946 to 1963 was saved and a few years ago I digitized the reels. Compared to today where photos and video from our lives is ubiquitous, home movies like this offer a rare glimpse into what life was like over sixty years ago. All the shots here were taken from our house or on the beach in front of our house.
