Thank you, this is so helpful to see how straight forward adding sound is for a beginner. I'm getting ready to shoot my first double 8 on my recent purchased bolex reflex zoom P1. After doing a little research I found your excellent videos on this film format which has added to my interest and understanding greatly. Thank you very much for bringing this film format and providing intros to some of the cameras. I hope you are finding that there is lots of interest in these old cameras, and film!

Really great color in the film -- nostalgic, yet modern -- but definitely *film* -- I enjoy making "home movies" with my digital mirrorless camera -- convenient, simple, great resolution and realistic colors *BUT* it ain't the same as the 8mm color movies my dad shot when I was a little kid, or the Super8 that I shot myself growing up. I have messed around with my digital home movies and color grading them, adding grain, and tweaking lots of settings, and the best that I end up with is a poor simulation of film. Most younger folks wouldn't realize the inaccuracies, but *I* do! I like that we can now shoot on film and edit in digital -- that's a lot easier than cutting/splicing (and hoping that the splices don't catch and melt in the projector!!!). And it's easier to share these movies with distant family, instead of waiting for Thanksgiving or Christmas when Uncle Chuck breaks out the noisy old projector and the home movies -- and of course the bulb burns out in the middle of it! But I was definitely struck by the color of the stock that you used -- great stuff!!!

Great video Mike. Weird this one didn't show up in my feed! I'm at the planning stages of a short. We've been test shooting (as you may know) and Covid restrictions have been a nightmare but got some studio time booked in July for practice sessions with a smoke machine. There's no sound being recorded on the camera in the scenes (we'll record wildtrack) and minimal dialogue will be 'looped'. I'll be checking out Mike Gutterman too.

I inherited twenty-two 1,000 foot reels of 16mm mostly color film shot from the 1930s to the early 1980s which I have had digitized and am looking for help with restoring color as well as adjusting sharpness & contrast. I currently use FCPX but wish it had the sharpness & contrast controls of Photoshop. Any suggestions?

Hey Michael! Do you still do camera repairs? If so what is the best way to inquire?

Hi Logan. We never offered camera repairs. Consult the repair thread on Flickr - www.flickr.com/groups/filmphotographypodcast/discuss/72157668948888217/

What codec do you use?

Each roll scan gets two files - one ProRes .mov + a smaller .mp4 HD.
