For me apart from the horrific falls in the early 1980s, it ruined the race losing so many at one fence. To compensate the easing of the fence, they should have increased the difficulty at some of the other obstacles. The same could be said of the National
The landing side was appalling. Whilst many animal rights campaigners who turn up in Liverpool for the Grand National (tomorrow 15/04/23) know little of real equine welfare it has to be said they would have had a point with the old Taxis fence. A much better watch these days in my view. A fantastic event. A pity this doesn't get more coverage in Britain or elsewhere.
