In 2016 I had a patient in a rehab for drug abuse who was a first responder in 9/11. He would tell me - I witnessed things that day that I can’t disclose because it would traumatize you. When I would tell him - that I was trained for this he still wouldn’t disclose. I ended up being furloughed in the middle of his treatment from the rehab due to budgeting issues but I always think about him. I hope he made it.

I was 14 when this doc first aired. 13 when 9/11 happened. I remember my parents had the Nextel cell phones that came with the walkie talkie feature. My dad worked in lower Manhattan at ACS. He got off at Brooklyn Bridge City Hall train stop, the stop before his usual stop at Fulton St because the train went out of service due to the planes hitting the towers. My dad had no idea what was going on until he walked up to street level and he saw the towers burning, recalling how he can hear the fire crackle. He asked a person near him what happened and the person said it was a plane. My dad responded, “But theres two fires”. The person then responded “there was two fires”. Thats when my dad knew this wasnt an accident. He witnessed both towers collapse, recalling how when he was running when the second tower fell, that when he looked back, he can see the antenna disappear in the smoke cloud as it fell. He walked on the foot from lower Manhattan up to the Willis Avenue bridge in the Bronx, and with the phone lines jammed, the only way my mother kept in contact with him was through the walkie-talkie feature. My mother had picked me and my two brothers up from school that morning, as did other parents did. As we were in route to pick up my dad at the Willis Avenue bridge, we took the Bronx River Parkway and just passed the Bronx zoo heading south, there’s an overpass over the train yards and in the distance you can see the skyline. I remember seeing a plume of smoke where the towers once stood and looking to my right at the car next to me and seeing the driver in that vehicle just stunned and everyone’s slowing up. Once we got to my dad, he came in the car, was silent for about 20 seconds, and then he just pulled his eyes out and cried like a baby. Never seen my dad cry like that if at all. 9/11 didn’t just affect the loved ones of ppl killed or injured, but the people who witnessed it. In the 21 years since then, my dad went through some issues, struggled with substance abuse, depression, lost a marriage. But now i can say hes on the other end of it. In a good place, has a good gf, in a good frame of mind. Though he didnt die and wasnt injured, my dad is a victim of 9/11. May god bless those who died, were injured, and those who simply witnessed events that fateful day.

There's so much to say about this extraordinary doc, but I'm going to take a moment on Father Judge, the chaplain. It's said that he always had a smile & encouraging word to say to the guys. The footage that's captured of him is quiet but remarkable. He is standing off to the side alone & he is in battle with true evil. The only time I've seen someone pray with that intensity is old paintings of Christ praying at the Garden of Gethsemane the night he would be betrayed. Father Judge is fighting just as hard as anyone else that day. There's a lot of moments that bring me to tears in this program, but the images of him are absolutely moving, especially knowing what becomes of him in just a moments' time. 48:41

This film had a lasting impact... the greatest of which was the naming of the event. Prior to its release everyone referred to the event as the September 11th attacks but after this film came out...it was then referred to as simply 9/11 and to this day it still holds.

I remember it differently. People started calling it that the day of the attacks because a firefighter pointed out the date and felt the attackers had understood that Americans will go into harms way to save each other, so they were essentially targeting emergency personnel and bragging about it in the date they chose. I bet most people just forgot this because it sounds like giving the terrorists too much credit. But most people at the time believed it and it angered everyone even more. The idea that they looked down on us as weak for not abandoning people in calamities is probably true, though, and this story deserves to be remembered even if you might not have heard it the same day I did.

I was 29 with my two oldest at preschool and my one year old nursing, thankfully, facing away from the TV because I could not take my eyes off. It took probably maybe not that long, but it felt like it took at least like an hour to get through my brother who had just moved back to New York and into Manhattan like two weeks before. Also, I hardly ever fly and had been on a flight with my one year-old to see friends I had met online when we were all pregnant and due the same month to celebrate their first birthdays. We met on an AOL bulletin board. I felt so bad because I knew you shouldn’t keep it on with children around but I let her I miss her self with her baby books and toys as I went back-and-forth on if I should go get my kids from preschool even though we were like 45 to an hour away at that point. I lived in Manhattan from 19 to 22 end, it was the best. The people were always fine for the most part, but little did I know really fully understand the good in people and the heroes all around us. Just due to prices we had moved to my husband’s home state of New Jersey. Of course, I am pretty useless being not the healthiest since birth long story short and no idea what I could’ve done but I would’ve liked to at least have been There handing out water bottles or doing something useful. I felt so useless and just horrified as my brother - who I had finally gotten on the phone (I think he only had a cell phone at that point if I remember correctly but I think the landlines were just jammed up too) and after I was very relieved, he didn’t have a breakfast meeting at windows on the world we talked while watching the news and we’re on the phone while each of the two buildings went down. The conversation probably went something like this since I don’t remember verbatim “ OMG I can’t believe this OMGOMGOMG” I couldn’t stop crying. Still really can’t whenever it comes up.

History class. Oof, that makes me feel so old. I was 38, I was going in to work at 9am. I didn't see anyone when I clocked it and grabbed paperwork for the morning. No radio was on and my phone was a flip. When I went back to the office at 10 to drop off the paperwork and grab the first sort pack my supervisor was "did you hear about the world trade?" "What??" "Both towers were hit by planes! And the Pentagon was just hit" "Bobby! That's a horrible thing to joke about, how could you think that would be funny?" Then the gal doing the order prints turned up her radio. I was numb the rest of the day.

When we got to the classroom my teacher had the tv on with the 1st tower burning and said keep our backpacks on because we were going back home. And sure enough thats when the 2nd plane hit and the classroom was shouting. We got back home soon after that and I will never forget walking through the door of my house and before I could even get my backpack off, Tower 2 fell. I remember sitting all day and just watching in stunned silence hearing about The Pentagon and United 93 over CBS News and was in shock about what was happening. I'm in Toronto Canada and on this day I was a manager for The Home Depot working the morning shift. I had no clue what was happening until a customer who was middle eastern told me. His exact words was a plane hit and it was Bin Laden and until he said his name. I had no clue who he was. The fallout from that day took us months to recover from everything crashed and people were afraid to spend money and it was understood. I was in my 20s back then and now 48 and I will never forget the lives we lost!! They played this documentary a couple days later and I don't think much people saw it because everyone was glued to CNN at the time and this was on another TV station. I remember picking up my sister from one of the busiest malls in our city and it was empty. This attacks scared alot of people. Now we are dealing with a war in the middle east with Israel and all the countries surrounding it! "The World Just Stopped" I love New York!!

I'm 60 years old 911 2001 I was on the job a little over 10 years in North Jersey. We went over the next morning with a busload of our guys from Irvington other departments Newark, Elizabeth , Jersey City and even an engine from West Orange fire was pulling water out of the Hudson River. All the water mains were severed thank God for the Carpenters they build ramps over all the supply lines coming from the Hudson River into the rig's that they were in Line Pumping blocks into Ground Zero. The one thing I remember the most about being there on the morning of 9/12 was how everybody every race Creed and Colour came together to help. There was no division like there is today in this country maybe that's what we need another attack to get our ass kicked for us to realize that hey we if don't start taking care of one another we're going to lose this country. Today is 20 years from 9/11 I cannot believe that no major networks CBS NBC ABC none of the major networks are carrying this documentary by these two French Brothers. Because mainstream media and the left do not like patriotism because they are marxists. And the next war will be a Civil War in this country

I heard that chief Pfeiffer and only one other guy survived from the command post but I don't know how that's true if these men are giving interviews.. not to take anything away from America's loss regardless. Thank you America for always stepping up and RIP to all who perished.

I don't know what's meant by command post but not all the senior leadership died. I'd have to look at the exact numbers. Of course a number of senior firefighters did die including Peter Ganci and Bill Feehan (and Ron Bucca, I forget where he ranked)

@@alex-internetlubber The command post was basically just where they set themselves up in the lobby. Even writing "tower 1" in the north building for people to remember where they were especially recruits. Kinda like a reception area for the leads to direct the situation.

A few survived from the command post in the lobby of Tower 1. Along with Pfeifer and Jules Naudet there was Pfeifer's aide, Ed Fahey. Chief Hayden also survived, and there were the 4-5 men who carried Father Mychal Judge out (I can't remember if Hayden was one of the men with the Chaplain)

At the time no one knew the footages by who filmed them, and everyone was just concerned by the events themselves. Even when people tell me I’m watching previously unseen footage I just experience the sense that I’m watching one holistic disaster unfold. But I feel like since people used to not take photos all the time for free that the news agencies would have paid big bucks for this, and since these men were doing this for a living they’d have sold the footage earlier. Just a guess.

I had a friend who worked in Security. Her name was Patricia Cunha. She had told me that Muslims were taking flying lessons in the US. She didn't even think much of it. Neither did I, because neither of us were expecting these people to do anything wrong. We just thought they wanted to learn how to fly planes. We talked for months. Then we stopped talking abruptly. Pat may have been stationed in New Mexico I think. So after the 9/11 incident, I put 2 & 2 together and realized these middle easterners had been learning to fly so they could participate in 9/11. I remember me and my dad were in the garage getting ready to go fishing and my dad always had on 101.1 and they cut into the song that was playing and said what happened! We looked at each other like WTF how can tne pilot not see the towers! Then my mom yelled to us and told us so we closed up the garage and went inside and then we saw the 2nd plane hit and we knew right there that this was bo accident!
@animula6908
@animula6908 Месяц назад
It’s always struck me how there were most of us thinking it had to be an accident, but a few who knew instantly. My dad was a cop, and so was his, and he wasn’t confused. And among us even then, there were people who had witnessed how the Holocaust deniers, and Kennedy conspiracies had developed, and they already predicted this would be another case. Things too incredible to be believed really do happen, and if you’re the kind of person who won’t believe unreasonable things then you’ll be gullible to every conspiracy theory out there, trying to explain reality away because it’s way harder to swallow than pure fiction. I’m glad I’m not alone in having witnessed this and not being confused about how it all really happened.

Couldn’t believe what they were seeing in some cases. There’s also a natural instinct when disasters unfold to start looking around or even going back toward them to get stuff. You’ve heard of horses running back into burning barns? Well, I’ve heard a woman from one of the towers say she had to force herself to start evacuating because she found herself inexplicably wanting to go back after a novel she was reading. It’s something to be aware of in case we ever feel the same deadly urge.

Anyone explain knowing the subject was there any possibility to put floating balloons floaters etc around the buildings to break the falls and why wasn't there any fire fighting equipment on each floor in each offices like ropes axes extinguishers fire retardant clothes etc.
@MinatheRaichu
@MinatheRaichu 14 дней назад
You mean those big inflatable things used on movie sets for actors to land on during jumoing stunts? There simply wouldn't be enough for all of the plaza and I don't know if it would have helped the people falling at terminal velocity. There is simply too much force and too many people falling at unpredictable angles for there to be any feasable way to catch them. Plus, the people weren't falling straight down. People would have still slipped off or not landed on the cushioning at all. I did hear someone talk about a fire extinguisher on their way out, it may have been Wells, the man in the red bandana. But I think a lot of the unfortunate souls inside just were too in shock. The fires were hot, the stairs were destroyed on impact, and there was no where to go even if they could extinguish half of the fires. One person also reported that they wanted to keep a parachute in their office after the 1985 bombings, but they were told it was unnecessary.

@@MinatheRaichu Thanks for you reply well hope the new building has some sort of precautionary measures in event of emergencies I too heard the parachute story well then the automated pa system instructed people to stay inside the buildings and not break the windows and the security didn't allow people to go out of the lobby until the 2nd plane hit I'm really interested did the terrorists think the towers will collapse too if so why they hit the 1st so high up and then the 2nd so low.
