My father was FDNY and was off that day. He lost so many of his buddies and he has never talked about the horrors he saw in the following days. I cried watching this knowing I would not be here today if it wasn't for that circumstance. Watching this gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. I was born two years later the day before the second anniversary. I cannot put into words how painful it is to watch this episode. I am a son of a firefighter who from my very start of my life holds my father in the highest possible respect and love. I also served in the fire service and have the highest respect for firefighters. The people who are called to this profession are unbelievably brave and caring. When the bell goes off, without pause, immediately their attention goes to "what and how can I help someone".

It’s beyond admirable, my dad has been a sheriff in tampa for over 17 years now and now he wants to protect the schools so he isn’t retiring , the love we have for our fire fighters and police is unreal, and as a daughter of a cop , you know when we say goodbye to our parents it’s a different type of goodbye . What every first responder did that day was beyond incredible and brave. Members of the FDNY, EMS, NYPD and PAPD, even those random members like “The Man In The Red Bandana,” Rick Rescorla and those two maintenance folks from the World Trade Center who freed trapped people near the impact zones; everyone of them did an incredible job. They all feared of “the big one” as was talked prior to 9/11. But every single one of them, those who survived and those who did not, performed their job to the utmost and the best of their abilities. Because of it, so many people that should have died would live. It still brings me in tears, but yet raises the question of “how would I respond or act if put in such a situation.”

Of course I feel sorry for everyone who lost their lives that day (RIP to all) but one of the memories that hits me the hardest are the faces of the fire fighters that ran into the WTC when everyone else was desperately trying to get out. The impossible task that was in front of them, to climb the never ending stairs to get to the impacted floors with all their gear on. Most of them knowing they would likely not make it out and still pushing on forward, helping direct others to get out in the process. The act of bravery and courage they showed cannot be put into words. Absolute super heroes.

I was 9 years old when this happened, and its probably the most vividly, clear memory of my childhood. I was in 4th grade, and my teacher's phone was ringing off the hook, and every time he answered it, it was a student's parent coming to pick them up. After this happened to about half the class, the rest of us were talking about what the hell could be going on that so many students were being sent home. Then my name was called. I get to the office and my mom told me that both of the trade centers were hit by terrorists and that one of them collapsed. By the time we got home, the other tower had already fallen. The rest of the day we just sat in front of the TV watching it all unfold. I remember being terrified. It was such a strange feeling. I lived in Allentown PA, which isnt all that far from NYC, so the whole rest of the day, we were anticipating another attack. It felt like the entire world just stopped. The next day, there wasn't a single plane in the sky, unless it was a military jet. Even after the airports opened back up, every plane began to look like a missle. Every time I saw a plane, I thought it was going to crash into a building.

it's easy to say what we all would want to have done were it us in that position, but these men actually experienced the tragedy up close and personal and still chose to put other innocent lives over their own. people they would never know otherwise, never knew their names, never knew who they were as people, just knowing they had a job to do and put everything else aside to save these peoples lives. i think that is the apex of bravery and selflessness.

and it’s sad and extremely tragic that hundreds of firefighters and thousands of innocent civilians were killed from this. i just hope nothing like this ever happens again because i think it would be much worse than this.

I remember this day- it truly lives in infamy in the minds of hearts of people everywhere- those that were there and those that watched the horror unfold on TV. My daughter is in middle school and said that kids were laughing and joking when their teacher was teaching about 9/11. It infuriates me. I lived in a small town in Kansas when this happened but still have PTSD when I hear a loud airplane or one that seems too close, too low. I hope these children never face a tragedy like this- God forbid they do, and then remember when they made a joke of 9/11. 💔

I was in college at my local juco here in Kansas. I can recall that day like no time has passed. Flying this time of year gives me anxiety. I too get anxiety when I see a plane too low or hear one flying too low. 9/11 will haunt those of us who were alive that day for the rest of our life. I feel we now know what those who lived during Pearl Harbor felt like. Their world changed forever that day as did ours on 9/11.

A hard story to watch & listen to without crying. A horrible day. World Trade Center, the Pentagon & a field in Pennsylvania were targets of terroristism. These NYC FIRE FIGHTERS & POLICE & FIRST RESPONDERS were brave men never thinking about their own lives but saving other people. A horrible day that will haunt us in history & for the rest of our lives. Innocent lives lost. Many courageous people helping others & telling their stories here. REST IN PEACE TO ALL THAT DIED ON 9/11/2001. YOU WILL NOT B E FORGOTTEN.

I remember this day like it was yesterday and still brings me to tears. Grew up 30 min north of nyc. I can remember the announcement they made at high school because many students parents worked there and in the city. There’s a spot on the edge of town you can see the nyc skyline perfectly could see the smoke from there. The most disgusting thing is that there are people still dying today from inhaling whatever was in the air there.

Perhaps a veteran and a firefighter might explain how three skyscrapers were turned into dust as they fell? The victims of 9/11 are still dying from that dust , show them how much you care by explaining what caused their deaths

Listening to the FDNY dispatcher's AUDO is chilling when the buildings collapse you hear many clicks, those of the crushed emergency responders. Idk how he was able to continue. God bless him. He did an amazing job that day. I pray for him and all survivors, fallen from that horrific day. American changed. The World changed. Never been the same since. America united after that day, but not for long. We must stay united to fight against evil.

Real respect for the dead starts with recognizing who killed them or at the very least how they were killed. One man’s confession gave the strongest evidence; Larry Silverstein. Perhaps you’ve been asleep for twenty years Sleepinglady

I haven't cried much about 911. I've felt sadness but anger over ruled all feelings. Until tonight. When the man who lost his dad when he was 9, was talking about how the firefighter community came to his school events and took him to the amusement park and just was generally there for him, but could never replace his dad...I lost it. How f'ing sad is that? ... The anger returns.

Can you imagine they had to "walk" all the way up to 80th floor carrying heavy equipment in an uncomfortable outfit? The stair most likely filled with dust, jet fuel, terrible burning toxic smells, and in pitch dark racing against time and an inevitable death that could happen any second.
