BRAINTREE, MA (September 4, 2013) -- Four contestants "came on down" to the Mass. State Lottery's Braintree headquarters to vie for a chance to win up to $200,000 in the Price is Right Big Money Wheel Spin. The event was part of the second chance drawing program associated with the Lottery's $5 Price is Right instant ticket.
Each of the contestants, Christine Bielakowski of Randolph, Tommy McGuire of Revere, Susan Oliver of Attleboro and Richard Setaro of Worcester, were randomly selected from a pool of 500 winners who claimed Music, Money and More Showcase prizes in the Lottery's second chance drawing.
In a contest similar to the televised Price Is Right Showcase Showdown, the four Lottery contestants took turns spinning the replica wheel for an opportunity to win up to $200,000. Contestants attempted to get closest to $1.00 without going over. If on their first spin a contestant landed on $1.00, that contestant would have received $10,000 and qualify for the second round.
And just like in the Price is Right's Showcase Showdown, contestants who spun any amount other than $1.00 could opt to stop and receive 10,000 times the amount shown on the wheel. Contestants that went over $1.00 in the first round received $2,000 prizes. Christine Bielakowski hit .65 cents on her first spin and opted for a second spin and went over $1.00 after the wheel landed on .50 cents. Tommy McGuire also went over $1.00 with a .40 cent first spin and .75 cent second spin, as did Susan Oliver with a .50 cent and .65 cent spin. Richard Setaro landed a .95 cent spin on his first try and played it safe, opting not to spin again.
Had any of the four contestants been lucky enough to qualify for the second round, they could have won $200,000 if the wheel stopped on the $1.00 slot in their single spin.
