The same idea applies both today and in history: when i person pr group seeing or experiences something they don't know or understand, thier mind tries to make sense of it and when expressed verbally or artisticly, they are attempting to express it in a way others may understand.

When the same stories are told across the planet from times when we supposedly had no communication between continents, the odds that these stories are completely fabricated or "works of imagination" is pretty much nil. That isn't the way probability or imagination work, without LOTS of communication. Just saying - dismissing those stories as actual physical reality / historical accounts seems awfully foolish - we already know that we know only a tiny fraction of reality around us - even smaller fraction we can see - it should be ASSUMED a tangible possibility, at the very least.

I grew up Lutheran. It's my experience the Catholic Church can be pretty arrogant.
