Hey Beatrice! You seriously inspire me so much! I have been trying to improve at my filmmaking and content creation in general and your videos have inspired me so much. Thank you for the amazing content! I’m such a personal growth, self help nerd 😆
@@pratiti9810 She made a whole video on how she edits her videos, so check that out. But the answer to ur question is she uses Final cut. Idk if she uses pro or premiere.
I'm a nostalgic person so I love to write about my current books, current friend groups, current songs, current clothes, etc so that I can look back and remember a specific time in my life when I read my diary.
i do that kind of thing too!! about any random thing, like even the perfumes i use, what skincare items i use, my exact playlists, what youtube videos i watch, etc. i keep my future self in mind, who i know would be curious about what kinds of things i used or did in my life, even the small things
For all my emotional people 🙋🏻♀️ I tend to use my journal more reactively meaning when something happens that makes me upset, or over emotional. What I do is write out what happened, then tell myself to think about WHAT in the in the situation made me feel upset and HOW I can move forward/what steps I can take to feel better 🥰 It has definitely helped me be more dependent on myself to process my emotions instead of depending on others which can sometimes feel like a drag.
I can strongly second this approach, it's also extremely helpful if you are in or want/need to go into therapy - I go back and read over the emotional writing, and the "in the moment" assessment I may have done, then take that and maybe any further insights I got from distance to my sessions. It's so so helpful because I forget exactly how I felt at the time of whatever happened, but that's always exactly what my therapist wants me to talk about!
I love the idea about adding structure! My personal journal questions include: 1) Three things I'm grateful for 2) Did I accomplish all my important tasks? 3) Did I learn anything new? 4) Was I focused on each task? 5) Did I get enough sleep, social interaction, water, stretches and exercise?
I’m a perfectionist. It sucks when I comes to journaling. I care so much that I don’t find it enjoyable. I try so hard to make my hand writing nice to the point where my hand hurts at the end. I also write almost like I expect someone else to read them. So, I do a lot of simple sentences and I put way to much effort into them. I try to not care so much and let it flow, but at the end I feel bad because it’s not close to perfect. Edit: Thank you everyone for your help! If you have the same problem I do check out the replies. They might help :)
I feel completely the same! I have a bullet journal but I almost never use it cause I’m afraid to mess it up... think i am going to try diary for the next year
Try using an old notebook! I made a junk journal and it was fun since I don't have to worry about stuff like handwriting/design because it's already junk LOL
I m a perfectionist too but my head is so crowded that I don t even care anymore how I write or anything. I just get it off my chest it s like talking to a best friend or yourself. In a journal doesn’t even matter how u wrote just get it off ur chest talk about THIS particular problem. Instead of focusing on ur writing focus on the story and u realize that u start writing so fast that u don t even realize it at the moment. My first time I cringed so hard and didn’t knew how to start but after a few minutes of writing a few things as a warm up I ended up writing a few pages almost an entire hour...
It's definitely a constant effort to push aside the perfectionism! I like what someone else said about a few minutes of warming up and pushing through even if it sounds cringy or is messy and then you might get into the flow
Journalling has helped me in a strange way- I’m normally extremely talkative, so being able to rant to some paper instead of a very- annoyed person has surprisingly helped me a lot in my personal and social life. Lesson of the day- if you have a lot of useless things to say, say it to your journal!
@@neiidaax i tend to go for smooth writing pens but nothing to fancy, sharpie s gel pens are affordable and make me feel fancy just cause its sharpie haha. they dont bleed through pages and have a good grip as well
I started journaling when I was 9, today I’m 20. I’ve even motivated a couple of people to start journaling as well. In my opinion the best thing about it is when you read in your old books and relive or even learn from these memories. There is so much you forget over time and it’s so wonderful to have a way to remember.
One thing I think it made a difference to me was to write the time of day I'm writing, because midnight thoughts can a hole different thing from morning ones. And I also started practicing self observation on the same way do in my therapy sessions, implementing the sympathetic way I analyse myself while I journal ;)
Another little tip: if journaling in a notebook isn’t your thing, there are lots of great journaling apps out there. I personally use Day One, but Stoic and Reflectly are other great ones I’ve tried out too!
Yeah, its called Microsoft Word or an IBM typewriter. Personally, though in this day and age where people use phones and computers for everything, it ought be mandatory to keep a notebook so that you still know how an ink pen works should there ever be an EMP.
@@Harlem55 Sounds like a notebook would work great for you then. For me, using a notebook just to write out my thoughts and feelings feels wasteful. I prefer using them to write things I will constantly refer to. Not sure why you’re angry about people wanting to use their phones. Phones are just tools after all
My worry is who’s going to read my journals when I die 😂... I mean I really don’t want my family to read them ... my sister might not like what I would write about her 😂😂
@@khaoslee but isn't that kinda the point? for someone to read it when your dead? I mean, there's a lot of people that are going to be totally shocked when they read mine- they're in for a rude awakening, I assure you.
Can I just say, it's so nice to see someone who is actually writing on a full page, and not a junk journal style? It's so refreshing nowadays. The junk journals are aesthetic af, but not my style of journaling. So thanks so much!
Thank you for reminding us that we don’t need to record every single event that happens in our life and that it’s not a big deal if you want to leave things out of your journal, I needed to hear that.
I’ve really gotten into journaling this year and I’ve found that the most important thing for me is to let go of any structure while I write. My journal has blank pages, which makes a big differences for me since it allows me to be completely free with what I want to put on paper. When I look back on past entries, my handwriting is always very messy and I can point out many spelling errors, but it doesn’t really matter since I keep in mind that the most important aspect is the content and how the process makes me feel, not the overall structure. Hope it helps! That’s what really helped me stick to journaling as a habit :)
Ooh I like that! I recently got this notebook that is lined pages on the left and blank on the right so I'm trying to think what can I do with that... 🤔
00:00 📝 Journaling is a free and beneficial practice, especially during isolated times or unprecedented events. 00:53 📔 To start journaling, obtain a simple notebook and write in it regularly at a consistent time, like in the morning or before bed. 01:49 📚 Using a special notebook, separate from school or work, can create a positive association and habit around journaling. 02:47 🗒️ Stop writing before you feel finished to maintain enthusiasm and leave a thread for the next entry, making journaling more engaging. 03:46 📖 You don't need to record every detail. Write what you want, and avoid feeling pressured to create deep, emotional passages. 04:41 ✅ Add structure to journaling with lists, such as noting what you're excited for, accomplishments, and things you're grateful for. 05:35 🤔 Incorporate daily questions into your journaling routine, focusing on personal improvement or relationships. 07:28 📬 Write letters in your journal, whether to your past or future self, or to someone else, for deeper self-reflection and understanding. 08:54 📜 Create a journaling jar with prompts to inspire more diverse and spontaneous writing, fostering personal growth.
i started writing way back when quarantine started and i found that i wrote in it more after i personalized it and made it mine and not a journal that was just gifted too me i put sunflower stickers on the front and then on the front and back covers i put cut out pictures of pets and family that have passed away and then i also made it kind of collage with stickers and stamps that my grandpa gave me a couple years ago before he passed away. make your journal special too you
Great video! I am a 48 YO Man and found this very informative. I time block about 15min/ day for self improvement and development and came across this video. It caught my eye because I have been recently encouraged to start journaling. I have been having problems doing so and thought this video could offer some insights, which it did. Thanks for the tips.
one of my favourite journal pages i do is what i call happy happenings!! i write one (or maybe more) things that happened in my day that made me happy! it makes me appreciate the little things and makes me appreciate what’s happening in the moment!! i would highly suggest it!!
this video just encouraged me to start up journaling again. two of the most happiest and eventful years of my life were journaled, and i feel so nostalgic reading them. i’m currently in my last year of school, and i now want to journal my journey through finals.🥺
I haven't written anything in my journal in about 10 days so I'm excited for your journaling challenge. Hopefully it will inspire me to write about subjects I don't usually tackle in my journal.
Oh wow tip three is actually quite profound. Particularly: "Stop yourself before you feel like you're done." This will seriously change everything. It's the sort of principle that builds personal magnetism.
One thing I learned: when I first started out I wanted to go all out and get this big nice new journal but after I started writing on the first page I got intimated and gave up. So I got a smaller sized journal and it honestly helped me because 1) I get bored of looking at the same cover over and over again 2) it was easy to carry around and keep to myself
I struggle to process thoughts and feelings. When I journal I write about the main things that stand out to me emotionally and write how it made me feel. I also end by writing one thing that I did that I’m proud of and I add lots of smiley faces :).
Whenever I try journalling, I feel so much shame. It somehow makes me feel embarrased about the thoughts in my head. How simple they are, or how ugly my sentences are. I feels like I'm anxious about secretly being extremely dumb and reading what I wrote is like a giant confirmation of that fear. Is there any way out of this???
I've been keeping a diary for more than 2 and a half years now. I don't write in it every day, just when I feel like I want to write. Sometimes I write about what happened during the day, or some others times I write why I feel happy /sad on that day, or others times I write my thoughts on a certain subject (like something that happened in the world). Sometimes I only write 3 lines and I'm satisfied, and sometimes I write 2 pages and I still feel like writing more. One thing is sure though, is that when during some period of time where I didn't write in my journal (because I had no time), I missed writing and my emotions were a mess because I couldn't write them down. I believe that writing in a diary has to be more of a feeling than an obligation ;) Great video as always, thank you for sharing your journal ideas ❤️❤️
For YEARS, I've tried to journal and would write a few pages and stop. What I tried this year was literally starting small. My friend gave me a little 4x6 blank book for my birthday and I just started writing a little almost every day, now that's spread into a studio journal and an art journal. Good tips!
Oh I love that so much! Ya know I actually read recently that a big notebook is better because it makes you think more "big" like in a deeper more big picture way... not saying either way is better but just interesting to think about 😂
i am glad i watched your video. Finally, journaling is clear to me. I've heard so many people talk about it but never actually understood how to do it. Thanks a lot now i can finally start journalling and i already feel how powerful it can be and i haven't even started yet. Hope to see more from you soon
I received a very beautiful diary from my aunt for Christmas in 2014. I’ve been journaling pretty consistently since then and it’s so nice to look back on sometimes. It motivates me to journal more so I can look back on it again in years to come.
Thank you for this! I have always struggled with writing everything snd struggling with it being a chore. This really helped because I’m trying to journal more regularly!
I love the idea to stop on a high even when you feel like you have more to say - that way you’ll want to come back to it again! Awesome idea! I loveee journaling so much and talk about it too!
Thanks for the tips! I journaled for a year once, but i became too overwhelmed with exams to continue. After a year of not doing journaling, I decided to get back into habit, since it really helps me sort out my thoughts! These tips really help me out because i tend to over complicate things, but now i see no reason to not start a journal again
i've actually done tip 8 which is writting a letter to my future self. on 28 december 2019, i wrote a letter and i promised myself i would open it a year later. i wrote about my feelings, my struggles, what i was obsessed with at that time and some good ol' advice for my future self. today (29 december 2020) i finally opened the letter. it was a little bit of cringy at first but i realised that things actually got better. not drastically of course, but at least i had improve in something since last year. so to anyone who reads this, i recommend you to do this asap before this year ends. it's not much but you'll have something to look forward to next year. :D
I thought I would take the time to write.I my opinion as a highly sensitive man it is extremely helpful to journal to be more aware of the thoughts that go through your mind and the events around you to act in a proactive manner.
I started to journal this year but fell out pretty quick, because I ended up only writing about the bad stuff in my life, which would have to be like 5-8 pages of writing a day, so in the end it didn't make me happy and it honestly felt like homework. This time I'm gonna go for good vibes only, this way it can be shorter and more light hearted. Thanks for the video!
I have been journalling every day for about 10 months now and I love it. I used to follow daily prompts by Jo Franco, but eventually grew out of the habit as I like journalling whatever comes to mind. However, after over 200 days, I have found my journalling is becoming more of a chore and more mundane. I really like the idea of one journal for lists and mundane aspects and then one for deeper thinking. I will probably take this method up!
I've been wanting to journal for the longest, and I think my favorite tip was the jar filled with all of those prompts! I've never really thought of that, and the lists you keep in your journal on a daily as well is really great. This definitely gave me some motivation to at least START! Thank you for this video :)
Morning: 3 things i’m excited for / looking forward to: 3 good decisions I can make today: Night: 3 wins / things I’ve accomplished that day: 3 thing I was grateful for:
First of all, your b-roll game is ON POINT! I love how you splice in different scenes in different styles. Also I've been making a habit of journaling every day this month, so I'm looking forward to following your journaling challenge. Thanks for all the inspiring content - you rock :D
Ah 😌 my special, beloved weekly therapy sessions with TheBlissBean 😆 I really like the special occasions Journalling idea. + The Journalling prompt jar. My writing skills need fine tuning. I still write as I did in 8th grade. And it's 6 years later. My thinking muscles could Defintely do with some writing challenges. In highschool I never thought fast enough. So a lot of my answers I got from my classmates when the teacher asked for them in class. And because of my depression in the last 3 years of highschool, I stopped doing homework, cared about my schoolwork but just couldn't bring myself to focus on it properly. I started handing in my assignments late (which I half arsed most of the time) . I felt my brain deteriorating. I really need to work on my cognitive ability. I'm bloody incompetent. Thank you for all the practical help and guidance. 💕💕
Great video Beatrice!! I am having to self isolate at university in London due to covid in my dorm. Journaling is a great idea to pass hours of boredom and isolation in between my university zoom classes. This is a moment in history after all and will be interesting to look back on in years to come.
I remember how much I loved journaling when I actually did it and I'm inspired to keep going again. It really works! That's something that people say and maybe you don't believe it initially BUT when if you try it yourself it 's really eye opening 💕
I struggled for years in keeping up a journal! Some of the things you mentioned I had already started thinking of doing to make sure this time I continue, but I have to say very great and helpful video! I love that there are good practical tips here as well! Keep up the great work.
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my RU-vid channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 663 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
I recently found your channel and I absolutely love your entire channel! your aesthetic is everything! also i'm pretty sure i've binged all your videos!!
Love this video! I keep seeing the same comment about Anne Frank's journal being quoted--- her aim was to eventually publish her diary. She never got to finalize it because she died in a concentration camp. Her dad published her diary which was in its second editing stage.
I love the quality you provide/have in this video. You keep it very clean and explain it very well! Not everybody is as talented as you. I guess the journaling has done its job on the brilliant mind of yours;)
Fantastic tips!! 😃 I especially like "don't worry if it's not deep & insightful." When I first heard about journaling, I assumed every entry had to be super emotional, and that held me back from giving it a shot for a while. But now I start by just writing about whatever happened recently. Which makes every entry really easy to get started with. A lot of the time once I get rolling, that leads to something deep and emotional coming out later. Whereas other times, the whole entry is more a factual rundown of events. Thanks again, this is awesome!
Thanks so much for the comment! That's a great point, you kind of have to warm up your brain sometimes to get to the deep stuff, and sometimes ALL you need is to spill some of the factual thoughts bouncing around your brain!
LOVEEEEEEE Your video. I have been jorunaling since july and needed to hold myself accountable. I also needed tips on how to start and continue the process. This is my favorite way to have self care.
Just discovered your channel and I am going to try out some of these tips and get a new journal to start my self improvement with so it isn't combined with my ranting/emotion journal. Thank you, I can already tell that this is going to help me.
This is fabulous Beatrice! I especially like the tip about adding some structure such as: tracking what you're looking forward to that day, what went well in the day, and what your grateful for that day! What great advice for staying focused on the positive aspects of the day! Lorraine
I never knew what journaling was until 3 or2 days ago! I'm a self thought Japanese speaker, naturally English, I'm a early Japanese speaker and I started journaling for the first time yesterday, I love how creative and new for me it is to put quotes, themes, colours, writing, Japanese exarply and sticks and so on.
This is my first time watching your channel, I am now truly inspired to write again after watching your video. Losing my dad has been hard. Thank you for your positivity and good vibes. Sending you tons of bliss !
Wow, Beatrice! Thanks for sharing those amazing tips on starting a journal. Journaling is a helpful tool in managing our mental health. It's one of the ways to deal with any overwhelming emotion. It is a healthy way to express yourself. Journaling can be effective for many different reasons and help you reach a wide range of goals. I appreciated it's value when an amazing guest on my show emphasized its importance (Non other than Matthew McConaughey!)
Hi Beatrice, I agree with you on how journaling can be used for a wide range of goals so true! I have literally wrote things down and go back months and a year later and check things off. Yes! Love Matthew McConaughey, he was recently on the 'Time To Thrive Challenge ' with Dean Graziosi and Tony Robbins. He is a very wise man! Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
Talking about my journaling experience it is quite good and sometimes I feel to write nothing but ofc I do bc I know that in future when I will look upto my journal, I would be remembering these days and have an amazing feeling btw when it feels to write nothing, I write two lines and call it a quits. not everyday is the same day keep journaling
Omg thank for this video! I've felt the same sense of failure at journaling for not chronicling my entire day. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ran into that obstacle and now, I have some cool ideas to try for 2021 journal. 💜🥰
I love this. She's 10 year's old and has her ish together. This old man needed this so I can start journaling for the first time. Even bought a fountain pen and bound book. Ty
I looooooved this video... I journaled for a little bit in April but it started to feel like a chore so I stopped. But the tips you gave in this video are really really good so I think I’ll start again and do it in a more creative way than I was doing before!! It’s funny bc I’m giving up social media for two weeks so I’ll miss your Instagram challenge, but as an alternative I’m going to use the print out prompts every day next week
I’ve been starting and stopping for years. Wanting to journal but not knowing exactly what I wanted to journal about. But I would always come back to trying to start again. Well I finally found a topic that I need to focus on. ME!!! This time I’m researching to get some ideas about what I want to write about and adding some structure. All that said I really enjoyed your video. It was so informative and it helped me in so many ways. Thank you 😊
