My biggest dream is to move in L.A in around 5 years. In five years i’m going to be 20. But i’m gonna have to wait for all the paper work since I would move from out of the country. I hope my dream will come true. And I wish everyone’s dream will come true in the comment section.
AND my tidbit on apartment hunting in LA. If you are planning, you must SEARCH for those hidden gems. I stay in Baldwin Hills in a one bedroom and I only pay $1170. The cons with a lot of apartments here is central A/C. I know people who live in Inglewood, so there are nice spots there. I won’t really recommend staying downtown UNLESS your complex comes with a garage or secured parking. Look in the valley like most people. Happy hunting.
Being a native of Inglewood I REEEALLLY hate when people that aren't from here say Inglewood and places like them are bad areas, I've seen just as much suspect stuff happen in the Wood as I have in the nicer areas. Just mind your business. Happy hunting though.
You gotta think about the additional car costs, which include payments, fuel and maintenance. Also, there's a lot of peer pressure to upgrade to a luxury car. Yesterday, some girl at a bar tried to talk to me...and her first question was "What car do you drive?" LOL.
I used to live in Inglewood and I´m not poor at all :) It´s a nice neighborhood and the people are the best part. Way better than all these hip, bullshishit, hipster, trend areas
LA is not anymore overcrowded than NYC and that doesn’t stop people from moving here. So LA natives, STOP telling people not move to LA because it’s overcrowded.
Yup, lol. It's happened to me too. I'm originally from the East Coast, so you would think I'd be able to tolerate the cold more, but I've rather adapted to the LA weather, lol.
I was born and raised in LA and I know that 50 isn't cold. Most of us don't consider that cold at all. Where have you heard that? Also, people from the east and Midwest think it never rains. WRONG! It rains here, believe me. They're feeding you a lie there. Guess what? It friggin' snows here, too! It's just that it's in the winter very late at night and it melts by morning. I used to come home from work in the middle of the night and see snow on the freeway at least once a month. Bunch of idiot out of towners.
"Shady" parts of LA like Inglewood??????????? I'm in my late 30s, 4 years away from being retired, been here for 3 months and LOVE Inglewood. It's funny cuz I don't like LA but I DO like Inglewood. This chick is "special", probably from Boston or something.... Yuck.
@Rekroywen Exackkkkly... I'm from NY and when my cousin and his friends came to visit in like early 2000s, one Nigerian chick was sooo excited, talking bout "Sophiiie" (uhmm, but my name is SoPhia)... "Sophieeee, take us to wehhh the drivebys and shootings are"... I was like o_0 ??? Gurrrrl, this is Brooklyn, not Compton... Aint no drivebys ova here... Dey azz would get stuck in traffic!!!!
I'm moving to L.A in 2 weeks,I love watching videos like this. I've been to L.A 4 times. As someone born & raised in New York City,(toughest city ever to live in) L.A is somewhat of a cakewalk lol. The biggest adjustment is that things aren't as accessible or within walking distance,a lot of restaraunts/bars/clubs etc. close earlier & the Metro isn't as extensive as our public transportation. Honestly though,I give the Metro a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. Yes there's super weird ppl on there & it smells like urine, but it goes back to what I said: Being a New Yorker born & raised prepares you for things like that i feel.
William George I’m not comparing I’m just saying every time I deliver food to samo/Venice I see homeless ppl and it may or may not smell like pee! In certain parts. (And me growing up in LA and going to school in Brentwood/palisades area seeing both.) Obvs if ur going to live by the canals or by the palisades part of Samo sure but the regular parts aren’t BETTER than anywhere else thts not the east side of LA.Like the only advantage they have over Inglewood is the RENT CONTROL and instant beach access . But also maybe she stayed in a super rough part of Inglewood 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Okay I Have been to LA 3 times and I am used to the city already. As of this writing, I am getting ready to return to LA for the fourth time. The urine smell that you smell is actually the scent of the palm trees in the city. I learned this when staying at a hotel near Hollywood and Western. I had a baby Palm tree and I smelled the leaves and got the same scent. I did enjoy the Metro Red line and yes I did run into some sketchy characters on the subway but I now know how to protect myself and no one bothers me. A lot of what you said are spot on. I am hopefully going to be out there permanently in 2020.
Toronto is even more expensive than LA. Their housing costs are outrageous. Never liked Toronto. Just don't like the vibe. I'm from Montreal and were way way cheaper.
I'm from LA...and I highly recommend getting a car...or some kind of motorized transport. I was carless a few times when I decided to backpack the world--and I would return to LA for long visits--and it didn't make sense to purchase a car. This was Pre-Uber...and my God...it was just awful.
Khanh Ho public transportation in the city has improved by leaps and bounds since pre uber days, you'll find it easy to access any area of the city utilizing public transportation, just recommend you leave an hour early if you're taking the bus, trains much faster.
Esi, it's Dee from Laurier. I'm planning on visiting Cali for a few months (maybe longer) and glad i stumbled on your page. Good to see you are still there and doing well. Thank you for the tips.
Excellent advice! Please keep the videos coming. This video motivated me to save hard to have more than enough money to relocate safely and comfortably. Thank you for keeping it real and being honest. :)
It is my dream to move to LA. I'm 14 years old and I'm currently saving up to go to college, get a car, and start my life in California. Any tips on actually starting out and getting an apartment and getting used to the new lifestyle?
IM an LA native. Have a high paying job lined up if you want your own place. Research prices, and research location. Prepare to pay taxes for all the illegals and losers. There are more people on benefits than paying taxes so all the jobs are leaving like detroit.
If you wanted to go to college in L.A. or the L.A. area, your choices are UCLA in Westwood on the westside, USC which is downtown, Loyola Marymount in Westchester, Cal State Northridge in the valley, and Cal State Los Angeles, a little east of downtown. UCLA is a major state university with probably the most college like atmosphere. USC is a private school which is reputable but in a sketchy part of town. Cal State Northridge is a state school which typically attracts older people and those just after a degree. I think maybe the same for Cal State Los Angeles. I don't know much about Loyola Marymount. Another school worth mentioning that's outside of L.A. is California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). It's where people interested in acting and the entertainment industry typically go. It's in Santa Clarita. If you go to a state school, if you have not lived in the state for two years prior, you will have to pay out of state tuition. If you live in the dorms, you will need a place to go during the summer unless you are enrolled in the summer session. Most people get sick of the dorms fast and move in to an apartment. Typically they share a room with someone and their rent is around $800. By the time you move to L.A. minimum wage in the city will be $15 per hour. Who knows what housing prices will be though. As they are now, you would not be able to afford your own apartment on that wage. You will either have to have one or two roommates or make a while collar salary.
The best way to settle any city...especially LA...is as a college student. Being a college student avails you of a readymade community and a lot of ins and outs. Also, people who are truly from LA tend to avoid people who come to "make it" in LA. But students get a special exception...because they make more sense. So, see if you can get accepted to school. UCLA, my alma mater, is the best one and hardest to get into...but there are a lot of options...and also good community colleges that allow you to transfer!
Thank you for being so real in this video. I've been trying to find other people's opinion about L.A. since I've been going to university in a city nearby for about 2 years. I'm from Northern CA but our city has way waaaay less people living in it than L.A., haha But I feel like moving away from home would be good, however I realize it's going to take some heavy duty research and planning beforehand.
I really dont think I need that many clothes here for cold weather... I'm from New York. I guess you could say I'm used to having 5° weather😂😂😂The other week I saw a guy wearing a parka in 60 degree weather lol. My grandma went to Beverly Hills High School, and used to watch the television and recognize people she went to school with!!!
Great video. I don't mind a little cold weather. Long as it doesn't get as cold as here in Jersey lol. I heard someone say once that you don't see people walking in LA. They were basically saying everyone has a car. LOL. I would love to see the walk of fame. I'm used to crowded streets and restaurants from going to NYC a lot lol. I guess it depends upon being at the right place at the right time when it comes to seeing a celebrity. I've seen several in NY at unexpected places by just going about my day and BOOM! 😂😂😂
Thanks! It's definitely not as cold as jersey :) I do agree that a lot of people have cars here, haha. Or of they don't, they ride ubers a lot which is almost the same thing in terms of traffic on the road. If you're used to crowded places, then I think you would love it here :)
Inglewood is not shady. It has a lot of people that looks like you, but its not shady. You have a lot of wealthy people that live in Inglewood. Also, are you aware of how much land Inglewood cover?
I went to LA with the mind of moving there. I wished I saw this video before hand bc you’re very accurate. I was spending money, traffic was heavy, my hotel (downtown) online looked clean but in person...I didn’t even go inside. I simply booked another one!
That's true for all of LA though. It comes down to the landlord and market rate. Even in a shady neighborhood, a newer building or upgraded unit can be expensive :)
I meannnn im from Wisconsin so i wont be cold til its like 20ish Im gonna move there in a few months thinking West Hollywood, burbank, or studio city heard good things about those for me
Timo Cruz West Hollywood is great but it is the most expensive out of the three. Everything is walkable right off Melrose, Santa Monica Blvd and Beverly. Burbank is great too! Lots of apartments near downtown, that core is walkable. Studio city is very broad, all that area has tons of apartments and I like that area as well and it will be the cheapest from the three. But don’t be afraid to look further out in the San Fernando valley, east towards Alhambra (lots of boba shops), City Terrace, El Monte it is nice out there! I’m not very familiar with areas south of downtown. Big tip, older apartments don’t have fridges 👎, you buy your own.
Erica Hernandez pretty sure studio isnt that only like 15 mins away from weho but also that means it like an hour away lol but thats why i decided just to move to weho instead of anywhere else
Look I feel you on the cold thing but 20 degrees in Wisconsin and 50 in LA actually feel similar, it's hard to explain as someone who has only lived in San Diego and Minneapolis
I’m from L.A. born and raised, lived here all my life. In my opinion, don’t move here. It is already WAY overpopulated and traffic is ridiculous especially for the people who truly grew up in this city. I’ve noticed many people moving out here because of RU-vid and becoming social media stars but it’s not worth the hype. I’m saying* this because it is my home city and I’m giving this advice to people who are considering living here.
FatGreasy Mexicant why does it have to be about Mexicans? I’m part Mexican and only have one sibling. Your just talking crap about a specific group of people that you know nothing about. Every individual is different when it comes to how many kids they want to each their own.
Mary Paiz I’m half Mexican too.....most Mexican families have multiple children! And many, not all families don’t believe in going to college.....they all want to work in minimum wage jobs, and all live together and combine their incomes to pay the rent and bills. It’s sad, but I wish they would adopt the Jewish culture of pushing their children to go to college.
But for my acting career its important for me to live in L.A in my opinion i had google searched some best places for an actor and i got studio city, west hollywood, north hollywood, burbank, los feliz, silver lake/echo park, hollywood ik u said west hollywood is the best place to live it but now with all these others, is west hollywood still the best place to live in?? 🤔 🤔 🤔
Wow that's mean. Girl if you want to be actress keep at it. Don't let anyone kill your dreams. I have a Bachelor's Degree and working on another one. I plan to move to LA and become a reporter. I'm studying the craft and working a regular 9-5 job. So whatever you want to do go after it
K Will No disrespect but you don't know me. I'm originally from Michigan. I worked 6 years in print journalism. I live now in Sacramento. And I am in school now studying Broadcast Journalism and I am interning here where I am. So why are you just a debbie downer about people's dreams. I'm studying the craft. I'm doing my own business here. And I am going to work where I am NOW. Before I move anywhere. Plus I won't move anywhere unless I get a job offer. So what's the deal?
From Miami, headed to L.A and these tips were great. I'm used to being able to get everywhere on bus, so it was good to know that there's no real bus system in LA. And I knew it was expensive but having an idea how much starting money to bring is very helpful. Great video.
I haven't really thought about it in this way because there are so many videos I do that talk about great aspects of LA across different topics. I guess having a video to summarize it could be good :)
2:25 I’m from Syracuse NY and prices here are pretty bad but not as bad as New York City. Basically upstate New York is bad in prices, taxes because of the New York City. Upstate wants to be separated from NYC.
I Love videos like this so informative im from a small city (memphis) and i know people who actually went to LA and lived and the stories they tell are good. I guess you have to just be there to soak up everything you might have or not expected. Great Video 👍
kosovo albania definitely apply for internship in LA and to companies that have offices where you live and in LA. There is usually an option that ask if your willing to relocate.
If your school fees are already covered, and you're living with roommates (which I assume you are since you're going to college), you take public transport, and don't spend like crazy, it should be enough for about 6-8 months.
Not necessarily....I've literally seen people get on the metro with their clothes falling off to the point where you can see their private parts. It's not expensive to use the metro at all...just a few dollars, which is easy to get via donation/asking on the street.
9 Tips and she doesn't mention how horrifically FAKE and disingenuous ppl here are. You need to be VERY careful of ppl in LA.... Yet she doesn't mention that, I can only surmise because she herself is one of the fakes and phonies. She definitely thinking too much of herself talking about "important ppl", as though anyone is UNimportant.
If you do not mind , for asking .... how do you make it as a living?? in Los Angeles ?? u have been there a while, i'm sure. or it's not of my business?? BE REAL. THANKS Esi!! and YES WEST HOLLYWOOD IS SAFE!! IT HAS GAY AND RESPECTABLE PEOPLE IN THIS PART OF town, much safer , but expensive.
she hasten acclimated to LA...i also worked in the west side and saw every celeb i can think of..now i feel bad for her...like i need to show her round so she has a diff view of LA..maybe f
Nice video :) I am from Brazil and yes, LA seems like a nice place! But I am curious about something: why exactly so many people wanna move there? Like...I was thinking about that too, and I am watching some videos about it...but maybe is because I do not know other cities/states. Underrated ones. Am I wrong? What is it? LA pays well or is it a good place to live, with really great infrastructure and healthy lifestyle? - I really am asking because I do not know much, I would like to hear from people that had an experience there or live there since always :) -
I remember in the 2000s when LA rarely ever had out of state people coming in. LA used to be so different and grimy. My apartment was bought at 190k and is now worth 800k because of all the people moving in from out of state. It made my neighborhood feel a lot safer lol. It’s also really easy to spot who’s from here and who isn’t.
All 100% on point. Number 10: you better find a way to bump your income at least 10% year by year or you’ll be priced out of this city within 4-5 years
Hoping to move to LA in a couple years. 19y/o got some payments to make before I go but also a small inheritance coming in. Been looking at jobs and apartments for a while now. Toughest part so far is finding a place where I can keep my son/corgi with me
Great to see you planning already! I'm sure it will work out :) Yes it is tricky with the Corgi. A lot of buildings don't allow pets, but there are still a lot that do. Usually you just have to pay an extra deposit and sometimes it increases the rent as well, but I'm sure you'll find something that works. A lot of people here have dogs :)
