Scotland got around that only getting one chance to prosecute someone in an interesting way. When a verdict comes in it can be "Guilty", "Not Guilty", or "Not Proven". If it's not proven, the case can be continued if more evidence comes to light
@dawngrrrl
@dawngrrrl 7 лет назад
That's really interesting. I'm cautiously a fan of using "Not Proven."
@silverandexact
@silverandexact 7 лет назад
Denni Wintyr That's great. I really don't like how in the US if there's not extremely solid evidence to prove guilt, you're deemed "not guilty." There is a difference between probable innocence and probable guilt that can't be proven with admissable evidence in a court of law, yet they're called the same thing. Super cool that your government recognizes the difference.
@Aconitum_napellus
@Aconitum_napellus 7 лет назад

@2HRTS1LOVE

The problem is that it can lead to harassing prosecution of innocent people, as law enforcement can have tunnel vision, become convinced of guilt, and refuse to research other possibilities. So, an innocent person can be tried over and over and over. Not good. It's better that ten guilty people go free than one innocent be convicted, that's the premise of our justice system, the reason there has to be a lot of proof of guilt. I understand how hurtful it could be for an acquitted killer to later be shown guilty, but I'd still take that over any innocent's life being destroyed by multiple prosecutions.

I honestly believe women are more interested in murder because of fear having it happen to them and wanting to hold knowledge how to avoid it, what we always hear about when we hear about murder is serial killers going after young girls so women naturally feel like that's going to happen, even though it's not statistically prominent. But I feel like men kind of aren't as interested in it because of being interested it is seen as creepy. Also if you're like "oh hey I love murder" to like a girl she's gonna be like "oh shit got avoid you" because she scared that you're going to be a murderer. Sometimes when they're trailing cases for murder one of the things they use against you is your search history so if you've been looking up serial killers they use that against you. They say that you have a fascination with murder enough to want to kill someone and to want to experience the thrill for yourself. So I feel like a girl being interested in it isn't as taboo as a man because we assume a man interested in it will act upon this interest.

Yeah, being a horror movie fan back in school was like waking up as that guy from con air, everyone just waiting for you to snap. I never got into fights or freaked out or anything, but i was always getting pulled aside by teachers to make sure i was ok. At one point i heard that myself and few of my friends were on some sort of school shooter watch list. If you want to know more about killers people assume its because you identify with them, not because the're freaking scarry and you want to know what to look out for. More then a decade later and it still bugs me.
@1utube01
@1utube01 6 лет назад
Men also (generally) are more interested in action movies than thrillers or mysteries. They are drawn to results, the booms, not process. In a horror flick, men like the gore more, while women like the scare, the suspense. Again, generally (maybe even only a plurality). Women are generally more engaged cerebrally, men visually. Fewer men care as much about the how or why. I think those trends also contribute to any demographic contrast that may exist between men and women's attraction to serial killer stories. Finally, as you touched upon, more men are serial killers. It isn't as much of an alien curiosity to men. Violence, and man's (sometimes perceived) duty to inflict it, is socially ingrained at early ages, with military, football, old west films, insecure perceptions of masculinity.
@1utube01
@1utube01 6 лет назад
Ricky Miguel Theboraise is weird, but I think the intellectual curiosity/stimulation is similar to being drawn to Shark Week and behaviors alien to humans/women/civilization. Ratchet it up beyond the animal kingdom if you identify something very relatable in the subject serial killer. I still dont know why it would rise to praiseworthy, except from the perspective of law enforcement assessing difficulty of the challenge. There is a difference between the intellectual appreciation and moral appreciation, or there should be.

My grown daughters laugh now because they remember me constantly telling them "never pick up a hitchhiker when you're grown because all hitchhikers are serial killers, unless you're hitchhiking, in which case, the person who stops will be a serial killer." And their friends are shocked by the very matter-of-fact way they have active contingencies for the possibility that someone you meet could mean to do you grave harm. But having divorced when they were still very young and always viewing the world from the standpoint of three females on our own, it only seemed logical and necessary to be aware and informed about things like serial killers and other dangers.

while I do like that you taught your daughters to defend themselves, I have to note that if you look into it there is an equal opportunity chance that a woman or man will either be a killer or be killed by someone. I personally am pretty helpful to my neighbors and might help out say an aging clown that is trusted by the community XD lol whoops there I am dead by John Wayne Gacy's hand if I had lived near him. Or I might give a friend and his girlfriend a place to stay... what's that? they murdered me in my sleep after the girlfriend convinced my "friend" to do it? (I like to believe I am a better judge of character than that poor man) My point is that both genders need that same healthy knowledge of self defense and that no one should think it's only their specific group.

“Fuck Politeness” is the most valuable lesson I have ever learned in my life, and it was from Karen and Georgia. It has saved me from abusive and toxic situations, harassment, and potentially assault. If you’re uncomfortable or scared, tell someone to leave you alone, or leave the situation yourself. I know that this isn’t always possible, due to safety concerns, but if you can ever leave a situation safely, just get out. It’s so much easier to apologize for leaving or being rude than to heal from abuse or trauma. Love you ladies.

Sure, I'm not gonna give the name of the school but it's in England and you could look it up - and I can't find a link on any info on the third one but there was: - John George Haigh (who went to the school in 1920), known as "The Acid Bath Murderer", who killed between 6 and 9 people (evidence says 6... but he claimed it was 9) by shooting or battering them and them dissovling the bodies in sulfuric acid - Stephen Griffiths (who went ot the school in 1970): we're not sure how exactly he killed but only parts of the bodies of his 3 victims have been found, and in court he gave his name as "The Crossbow Cannibal". So. Um. It's weird that they attended 50 years apart - maybe it's cursed?
@SwiftyH13
@SwiftyH13 7 лет назад
I found the school (not posting the name) but I am disappointed though not shocked that I can't find any reference to the serial killers nor the third. It would be more worrisome if they committed their killings while attending but seeing as it's been open for hundred of years statistically it would have the odd serial killer or at least murderer. Many schools most likely do as well just statistically speaking.

Hehe, when she told about her parents and school getting mad at her for checking out a book on Bundy, and knowing how interested she went on to become in the subject, I could only think of my own experience. When I was 9 I got a science book for my birthday. My mom caught me looking at the pages that had line drawings of male and female anatomy. I don't recall her saying much about it, she just took the book and tore out those two pages. That ignited in me a burning passion for learning absolutely everything which exists about human sexuality. It's just as alive today as ever. Everything from the history and sociology of sex to the medical angle to evolutionary biology, if it has even a tangential relationship to human sexuality, I'm all over it. If you want to make something enticing to a kid, just try to quash a curiosity.

I feel like they could have gone further into the reason why women are interested in murders. The truth is at a very young age we are told that men are monsters and princes. They can at any given moment be one or the other if given the opportunity to do so. Its a scary reality to deal with as you are also being told that in society you also have to fit certain norms in order to be successful. One if those norms is to look good and be sweet. The very things that are "triggers" or atractive to those monsters. So, the empowering thing to do is be educated on those issues.
@NightingaleSpica
@NightingaleSpica 7 лет назад
I was running out of room above. That's is why my rule book is way different from what it would have been if I was a man. I cannot afford to be alone in public and day dream. I have to be constantly aware of my surroundings and even when I go out to drink I don't get shit faced; if I plan on doing more than normal I make sure I have a buddy with me. I have to watch my own drinks as well. I was taught at a very young age on how to defend myself and once I got older I was given a weapon as well as other items to carry at all times. Sure, there was a time when I felt like I could have done anything; mostly because I was for the longest time taller than all the boys and a more bad ass than them. Things quickly changed once you realize that you are not the biggest fish and surprise, you're the bait.

@MusketWalrus

@@NightingaleSpica Thing is, the bit about men being both princes and monsters is completely true. Men, especially young men, have a huge amount of strength, agility, and competitive energy. If you don't find ways to get young men to discipline themselves and positively channel that energy towards doing good, things can go downhill extremely fast. The fact that 16-25 is the age of peak male criminal activity AND peak male creative productivity is not a coincidence. I don't think the male and female rulebooks are that different though. I mean it's good that you are sensible with regards to your safety, but that behaviour shouldn't be exclusive to women and we can't afford to let anyone think it should. Sensible men should also do all those same things because in many ways they are more at risk than women in terms of being beaten up or murdered. And if we keep saying that women live in a world of terror and danger that men cannot understand, there is a danger that people begin to assume that that means men don't get in _real_ danger like women and so don't _really_ have to look after themselves or each other. No matter how much stronger you are (or think you are) the prepared person always wins.

@@MusketWalrus well said. I will agree that there will parts that simular for both sex; only because we are fortunate enough to live in western countries where women have gained so much in equal rights in comparison to other countries. Still the differences do tend to fall down to nature and nurture concept between the genders. I tend to fall along the idea that there will always be core nature dictation between the genders that will always be around, which will explain certain trends or statistics. I have noticed within the last few years is males tend to have to tackle egos more when it comes to terms of physical activity or strength. This ego of them being "strong", while the idea of thinking things through or using their brain to tell them other wise; is lost to them. Of course not all men or boys but it does help explain why men are more likely to be victims of violent crime. As well as why they are less likely to successfully completed parole than women. Women are naturally the weaker sex, so we are more aware of the physical danger that men can do. So, the above statements apply. I can admit; probably deep down we are all "jelly" with a few things that the opposite sex can do/ get away with.

I kind of felt like it was shitty when they talked about bad childhood experiences and how it was understandable that people would become murderers or serial killers. It's the the shit that happened to the people that caused it. Some people are born with a bomb inside them and sure, different things can trigger the bomb, but the abuse and horror won't put a bomb there on its own. I come from some real terror, was even obsessed with fire as a child like they talked about, and never killed any of my pets. I actually became a vegetarian at age 9 because I loved animals and living beings so much. I would never kill someone. To use my childhood experiences as an excuse for other people's evil is an insult and I hate it.

In a town close to my hometown in Illinois, there was a man who came out of a cornfield, walked through the back door of a house, tied up the family, and stabbed them all to death. Only one of the family members survived and that's because she jumped from her window and hid in the cornfield. There was also a guy who robbed a grocery store in my hometown who, after he finished his sentence, killed the witnesses who testified against him and the witnesses' families and the cops who arrested him. This was when my mom was about ten years old and both she and my grandma saw the robbery. My grandma was going to testify in court but a cop who was a friend of the family stopped her. The cop ended up being one of the murder victims. Then the guy on his deathbed told them where he hid the bodies. He couldn't remember the exact point, but he gave them a general three mile area to search. The search party realized "holy shit, there is a highway covering the entire search area." And that's the story of how there's a highway in central Illinois built over a serial killer's body dump.

@pennythedragon4035

It's not that interest in fire itself is the issue, it's just that psychologists and criminal justice professionals over the years have noticed that a lot of mentally ill people prone to murder have a lot of fundamental things in common. Abuse or some other trauma during childhood, obsession with fire or arson (the second being much more worrisome), animal abuse, morbid curiosity of death and/or dead bodies, social isolation, anger management issues... not all of these things are necessarily bad in and of themselves, it's just that if an individual shows one or more of these characteristics, statistically they're more likely to have violent outbursts.

I watched a documentary about this nature/nurture-debate and they essentially already discovered a killer-gene, but it only gets activated in some people due to childhood traumatic experiences. So it's actually a combination of nature and nurture that makes a lot of killers. There are probably a lot of people walking around with a killer-gene, who never kill anybody, because their childhood was great. And a lot of others, who's childhood was awful, but don't have a killer-gene, so they also never end up killing anybody.

Kill Kits for sale!! Just leave 50 dollars in a tightly sealed box in the woods next to the highway. Do not leave your box in the woods next to the cemetery or next to the abandoned mineshaft. They will come by and exchange it for your murder kit. If your package has not replaced your money by the time you have turned around, please be advised that you have, unfortunately, been selected by the providers. They will find you. They're always watching. Thank you for your cooperation or R.I.P Yours, Notsurethisjokewasfunny inc

@msvick66
@msvick66 7 лет назад
Yep, and particularly if there is a group of you do not let them tie you up. Pretend to cooperate then fight and/or run. They are only tying you up as they know they cannot control you or all of you. Examples include Richard Speck, the Lake Berryessa killing, the Manson La Biancas, the Joseph Duncan case where he tied up the family and took the two kids, the Keddie cabin murders. They tell you they won't hurt you just to get you helpless. Also the Original Night stalker and the Clutter family. Unfortunately, all may not live if you fight and refuse to cooperate with being bound, but if you do it without resistance, all very well may die. Having said that, it's always a case by case judgment on who you are dealing with and their motive for doing it.
