I have watched hundreds of instructional guitar videos on youtube. The concepts you detail in this lesson were each known to me. But this presentation explained the relationship between these comments better than any video I have watched. I didn't expect much from the title to this lesson (almost didn't watch it) but it is so much more than the heading communicates. Your videos are consistently good, occasionally dull, but among the best on the site. Very helpful and well presented!

This lesson truly brings it all together especially for some of us who have learned a lot but still can’t solo like a pro. You are a synthesist!

Hi! I think I've mentioned this in a similar video, but there is a symmetrical shape to the one you showed in concept 9, which aligns nicely in the vertical direction with the one you showed, and by combining these two, you can find every single note in the whole neck. The one you showed is, on the bottom strings: E |----3--5---------------- A |------------3---5---7-- The symmetrical shape is: E |----8--10--12---------------- A |---------------------10---12-- This shape aligns vertically exactly with the continuation of the one you showed, and vice versa. With these two shapes you can find the whole pentatonic in the whole neck!

Hi Jules, I have been at the guitar for about 6 months and am having trouble with the basic music theory. I call it a foreign language that is backwards and upside down. Being a lefty doesn't help matters either. Your lessons are starting to make sense and my, as I call it "making noise" is starting to sound like music. Thanks for your help.. James
@1man1guitarletsgo
@1man1guitarletsgo 9 месяцев назад
Unless you're intent on learning to read music, don't get stressed about music theory. Learn chord shapes and their names, and for lead guitar, learn a couple of scale shapes. If possible, join a covers band, or get together with other musicians to jam. The more you play, the more pieces of the jigsaw fall into place, and before long you'll understand the theory without having it taught to you formally.

Always great lessons, but why do you present the scales just the other way around on screen? It's confusing because in other guitar instruction videos the scales are displayed with the thick E string at the bottom and the thin e string at the top.

They r wrong besides it is how u understand guitar and play. This guy and me we understand it better this way. To me the other guys r confusing and it makes no sense
@forcemajeur.5138

Great lesson, and I know this is old. I know all these basic sales in their positions and I have newer been able to figure out if you would play down the 5 positions for a lead part of solo (say key of A song with ACD chord progression), or would you just move you major pentatonic box 5 in these keys over the changes and slide between the three same scale position just down and up the neck? I guess technically you could do whatever you wanted, but in "theory" what is the correct way? I guess I always assumed you connected the positions and stayed in the song's key which can get pretty tedious, or are these just two ways of doing things? Thank you for the lesson.

Do you have a video showing common pentatonic licks that I can apply all over the frebtoard in different keys?
@franklynch5865
@franklynch5865 9 месяцев назад
Nice lesson, not sure why its more important than CAGED though. It looks as though you are soloing to the key, where as CAGED gives you the option of following the chords also..

Why the tab diagrams are backwards, this is not how we see the fretboard 😢

My advice is to avoid the tab as much as possible and rely on ear instead. Relying on tabs can cause becoming a good reader, but not player.

Matches the guitar neck as we see him holding it. But, yes, unusual and confusing. Show it as we see it as a PLAYER, not an OBSERVER

Great content conceptually. However your upside down and backwards tabs are not beginner friendly at all. Every other site and tabs I have seen in the past 18 months since I began are the other way round. Would subscribe to your Patreon if I new the tabs were done in the conventional method like all other sites and instructors.
