from what i understand, they are pretty tough. if they do break all you need to fix them is patch and the adhesive. only really problem with them is that if there made of pvc the sun can damage them over time. so store it in the shade

I will debate this with anyone. I own both and there are advantages to both. I think it is funny when they show a performance inflatable. What they don't show you is that it is a regular boat with an inflatable bumper and interior. The hull is solid.
Too late I guess but no, they actually handle better a crash than a rigid boat, and they will still float with a puncture, I 2ould recommend you bring something in case the engine goes out or it deflates like a paddle so you can paddke your way out of there if the waves are too high to use the engine.
