I'm far from a multi-millionaire and can confirm that relating all purchases as a percentage of income is a better way to assess whether you can afford something. I like your list, it's solid.

I stopped letting price influence which ice cream to buy myself. It's a small and silly thing, but as I've reduced the amount of treats I eat, I would much rather get my very favourites than stock up on things that aren't my favourites just because it's cheaper to do so. I may enjoy the kinds on sale, but they aren't my very favourite, so now I get my favourites.

Wow....I just tossed the last bit of my ice cream in the freezer this week. They were buy one, get one free and my favorite ice cream wasn't on sale. One jar of my favorite was more than the 2 on the deal. Well, they weren't anywhere near as good as my favorite and I ended up forcing myself to eat them. Thank you for the wisdom :).

Have been in the multi club for a few years now, and of all the services and life hacks that come with the resources, the smallest changes can be the most satisfying. For example, the most universally hated experience among everyone is listening to ads and sales pitches from every angle of life. Paying money not to be interrupted, feel sales pressure, or suspect manipulation for sales pitches nonstop is the most rewarding thing ever lol.

Totally agree, however, now advertisers are paying content providers (including Ramit) to advertise their product in the middle of their RU-vid video. It’s totally annoying and I make it a point not to buy or even consider the product or service being advertised and I fast forward thru the ads. I pay RU-vid a premium to not have to see or listen to ads, yet again advertisers have found a way around that.

I get a 90-minute massage every two weeks without fail. I also just changed from a $20-a-month big chain gym that was always crowded to a high-end fitness center with a zillion (free) classes, top-of-the-line equipment, Olympic sized indoor and outdoor pools, and sauna. When I sat down with the facility rep to talk about how much it cost, I mentally calculated how much the fee would be annually ($1,860). By looking at that big picture instead of the monthly fee, I realized my health was definitely worth it. I love going there! Rich life indeed...

As I made more money, I stopped hesitating to order drinks and appetizers with my meal. I was raised to only have an entree with water for my meal. This is by far the best "value" approach to dining out, but I don't have to be solely focused on value now.

Funnily enough, I didn't stop doing things, I did more things as business and investments gave me more time. I always wanted to fix my car instead of paying someone to do it (along with many other things around the house), so when I had an issue with my car (or anything else), before I would take it to a mechanic to fix, cause I had "more important things to do" and was always busy. Now I would go on youtube, find out what the issue could be and take the time to fix it myself, even if it took 1 week. When it was fixed, I would get great satisfaction that I learnt something new :) Since Ive had more time, I've learnt to weld, learnt to fix the car inside and out along with other things around the house 😂

I get a haircut every two weeks and have monthly massages. Over the course of a year haircuts and massages each cost me less than 1% of my earnings and it stopped making sense to stress over it when expanded out. Also getting FULL OUTFITS when I buy clothes, no more of I have nice shirts but no pants or shoes to match. I still hunt for deals but I no longer tolerate partial fits when it comes to looking good.

As I have more money, I have purchased less basic things, because I have discovered over time I can scavenge or buy on sale almost everything I need, if I collect it before I need it. Its a little more scarcity than abundance mindset, but as you get older the things you need to buy declines exponentially, potentially allowing you to increase your savings rate quite a bit, over just starting out.

I Money Balled and Matrixed my life. Money ball is about statistical joy, so I stopped spending time with energy sucking negative people, set my credit card to auto-pay, and focused on experiences rather than material things. I've never spent more than $5k on a car. My favorite Matrix quote was "There is no spoon" which meant question your pre-existing thoughts. Specifically learning about fractional dividend investing in 2020 changed my investing life. I educated myself and ended the myth that overseas vacation had to be expensive. I usually go on multiple vacations yearly because i got out of my own head and go during off season. I rarely need to spend over $2,000 USD on a vacation and I soak in the fun. Stop doing what others expect you to do, and do what you want to do that brings you joy.

Wife and I just got back from a two week vacation where we flew business class for all the 7 flights we took in that time. This was our first time flying Business class and we had booked it mainly with points. But we found so much value in it that we decided that all our future long haul flights will be in Business class - even if we have to pay for it. We don't yet make as much that we can buy business class tickets without worry. So we have now setup a proactive system to put aside a few hundred dollars each month that will fund these tickets. This money comes from actively cutting down on expenses that don't add any value (mainly eating out) and also separately budgeting for it.

Also massages are for your health. In addition I do saunas and steam room every week with pool time. Anything that adds value and healthy to my life I get without thinking. I've been budgeting for the past three years and adapted the percentage philosophy when it comes to income. I no longer have a scarcity mindset but I did for the first time exceed my leisure budget in May. It was a little alarm clock. Among other things, what I take away from this video is to also think of expenses in percentages of the total budget. Thank you. Subscribed.

kind of expanding on "not needing a Netflix show to always look good". I remember David Goggins once said something along the lines of "think of the version of you that you present for yourself at an interview, you should wear that version of you every day" and that really resonated with me. Just sharing incase someone else might enjoy that too. Great video

We're not even halfway through our FI journey and we travel like this already. We research a place for months and go off the beaten path often, when a guide who knows the place. The only difference is that we tend to do this in areas where the US dollar goes farther. In fact, there's ways to do most of this on an average income, especially the health aspect.

We decided to tip very generosity -( percentage plus add $20-$50 more) as our desire to 'be generous' in unexpected ways. I pick up pre-ordered food-household items or have it delivered to house- (I think that kept me from getting sick last few years!) and yes, we're both tall +6ft and discovered Business Class flights - that's now a MUST!

As a net worth millionaire on paper (with debt), I always look at prices. How much does a meal would cost in total even if I have the money, how much would a manicure that I get once a month or once every two months would cost, etc. Some things don’t make sense to us, at least not right now in life. Business class tickets for $3K each vs. almost half of that per ticket at economy. Healthy groceries is something we don’t compromise though.

We went to the zoo in Guadalajara. Feed a manatee? Yes. Feed spider monkeys? Also, yes. Now, we’re trying to find out what other animal experiences we can have in the US. She really wants an up close and personal experience with a red panda. I don’t know why, but I want to have an experience with a wolf. We’re strange like that.😆 My stepmom invited us to stay with her in Detroit. I’m already looking at what kinds of experiences we can have around the city. I asked my daughter if she would be willing to take a helicopter ride over Niagara Falls. She said yes. Now, we wait until my stepmom can host us.

Pov: You're thirteen years old and, you're watching stuff that won't be of any value until 23. (Why start working at 23 and not 21? Because I want to get a Master's degree because you have to get if you want a great job not be a lottery but with a 60 percent chance of winning.)

When your flight is over 4 hours and you go to business class, is that up from economy or down from first class?

Multi-millionaire (5+) is correct. A millionaire? You still wouldn't be able to hire everyone to do all these things for you especially when most people will have it tied up in a 401k or a house.

Maybe there's a reason for it that you just don't (yet) understand. Or maybe travel just isn't for you! But I find it's much more useful when we apply the D-to-C Principle: Disparagement to Curiosity. Why might other people want to travel?

To be HONEST, I stopped the video once you added the word, "MULTI" to millionaire. When you become A millionaire nowadays (especially if you are counting net worth as a couple), it's kind of like a "quarter of a millionaire" back when the book "Millionaire Next Door" was written. As such, you STILL need to sweat the $300 sushi dinner!

I have my own consulting biz and now 1) hire a copy editor for final deliverables instead of obsessing over the that myself and 2) get a facial + peel every month to keep my skin looking as good as possible instead of waiting until I've got a client presentation or workshop.
