Originally from NY. Been here 11 years. I prepared myself for the heat and monsoon seasons. My biggest adjustment i had to make during my first year here was when the weather cooled down around October and November. 60-70 degree days are nice for winter, but your blood thins out so much that it actually feels way cooler than your used to. Winter nights can be brutally cold. The good news for me is that there is never any snow here
@lesliehoncharik1289

Oh forgot one thing...Terrible air quality here, some of the worst in the nation. People used to move here for their asthma, but now its one of the worst places to live if you have any lung issues. In the winter we have many "no burn" days when using your fireplace is prohibited. Allergies are bad here too. Phoenix is one giant "dust bowl". Be prepared to dust your home constantly!

Very accurate! Lived in Phoenix since 1969. Everything in this video is spot on; however due to climate change our summers/monsoon season has really changed over the years. We used to have a big storm literally every afternoon. Now some summers literally have only one or two big wind/rain events all summer. The summer heat is brutal-it takes a lot of getting used to...105 degrees at midnight is hard for a lot of people to grasp. Finally our tap water is awful. It always tastes like clorox. I only use bottled water for cooking/coffee etc., lots of hard water scaling on you fixtures etc. Not a lot of culture in Phoenix...for such a large metro area not a lot to do except the trendy bar scene, which is not to everyones liking. Only places for food after 11pm are fast food, Dennys or a 50s retro place called Five 'n Diner. Town more or less "closes" after midnight.

Streets - don't forget Hayden/McCormick. That road changes in an intersection. Love the monsoons but in 30 years, I never saw a Haboob. Yeah, that direction change during rush hour is challenging. I never had to go through one though. The HOV lane got me confused in Utah. I thought you could do that in Utah. Nope. One thing I must say is that those of us who are basically natives don't like all of the people coming from California. Phoenix/Scottsdale/PV used to be a sleepy little Western town. Now, it's mini LA.

The best thing about moving to Phoenix for 10 years was it made moving back to Tucson seem soooo much cooler. Phoenix is good for big city stuff. Otherwise its hell. No one would even notice if an A-bom went off there.
@robertf2691
@robertf2691 Год назад
There are bad and good on moving to all cities . Compare a haboob to a tornado or a hurricane? There is no comparison. The road system is awesome here one great thing of living here. And it’s very easy to get around without using the interstate. I think people tend to use the freeway when they don’t need to. Too many Californians made it purple. We don’t need another California. Remember why you left CA. AZ is not all desert that’s misinformation. People think of snowbirds as negative because of traffic. The traffic in the winter is horrible and you notice many cars with out of state plates. Arizonans plan for the heat. I go out between 5am and 9 am and again at 7pm to 9pm to avoid the brutal heat.

My wife and I both ended up going to college out here, but we stayed because of how much we loved the city. We came from a smaller town in SoCal, and Phoenix was everything we were hoping for. Plus our cost of living would maybe be double back in CA! We really wanted to own a home quickly, and we weren’t going to be able to do that in SoCal. Phoenix gave us a chance to get a starter home in our first year of marriage, and now that we’ve been here a while we love it

Part of the reason why folks are moving to Arizona from California is because they don't like how the state has turned out, prices, taxes etc. Hope they realize that too many liberal ideas has turned California into the state it has become, causing alot of folks too leave. Unfortunately, with more folks moving there, housing prices, both rentals and homes for sale, have gone up and making it more expensive. Also, you said about the water tasting issue, but didn't say anything about future shortage issues, but with the continued population growth, and lower water levels in all of the big water reservoirs, its not hard to see some kind of restrictions on water consumption in the future. Still love the state and greater Phoenix area, but I think that it might have dropped down a little on our retirement location list. A few years left before final decision making needs to be made, so hopefully things will settle down some, and we might still end up there in the future.
@TrevorBragg-1
@TrevorBragg-1 2 года назад
I have heard a few different people mention future shortages, but I have also heard the city does have some things in place to hopefully slightly improve the situation. Phoenix is a great place to retire still, but there a few other great destinations well. Many of the retirement communities out here feel like their own oasis with everything they have to do.

To be honest as a native Californian I find funny that all these people leaving Californian are most likely people who moved their years ago from a different state.
