All the “hidden” features you described and more can be found in the little red books given at close called the “owners manual.” They are only “hidden” because nobody reads them. Cheers.
Here’s one that I learned about by accident… and love it! The lever under the steering wheel to adjust the steering wheel height, at the same time you can push/pull the steering wheel towards or further from you.
Here’s one I really like. While holding down on the 🔒 button part of your key fob, press the unlock button on the key fob twice. You’ll notice the red light on the fob blink 4 times. This shuts off the fob and save its battery life. And when the fob is on, it’s constantly (24-7) searching for a connection to the truck it’s set up for. So best of all since it is now turned off. car thieves can’t use a device that reads the fobs transmission from over 300ft away and download that info into a blank aftermarket fob and steal your truck.
@@gabrielreyes8476 That's a good one! I didn't know that. So do you just hit the lock button to turn the key back on? Do you have a push to start Tacoma?
@@jacobhenrytacoma No, it's a "normal" key. Manuals do not have a push to start unless you opt for that package at the stealership. Rarely do I use the keyless part of the key, I just lock the doors old school style.
Brother this was Awesome. I just bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD 4X4 literally 2 days ago and the salesman didn't show me any of this. All the stuff with the back seats i didn't know and Not knowing how to brighten my instrument panel was driving me nuts. I saved this video so i can remember all this. Thanks for sharing
I don't live under a rock BUT when I noticed the prices of new trucks 3 yrs. ago just before I bought my 06 Tacoma.....I was blown away. You literally have to fore go your 401K contributions just to afford a new truck. My 06 has 200,000 miles with hardly any noticeable wear and I wrote a check for it and never looked back. i'd like to thank all you guys who need new truck for helping us middle class working stiffs out with the used ones .........
I had been considering upgrading my 2015 4 cyl access cab, but you are right about the prices being crazy. I am not going to forego my retirement contributions to have a new truck. I decided that I'd rather put 5-10k into this truck to get a few more years out of it (only 70k miles). I repainted all black trim, installed new bumpers, new carplay head unit, new wheels and bigger tires. Moving onto the interior next. Already feels like a new truck, and there is no payment to be made.
Used ones don't feel much better in price. Still 20k for an 8 year old truck with over 150k miles. Yes, I know they can go 500k, but you don't know the history of the previous owners maintenance. Used truck prices may get worse if they have trouble selling new trucks at the rate they used to.
@@livingsimpleandfun9812 Payed 30 for an 8 year old tacoma 4×4 v6 6' bed but it only had 53,000 miles and it was dealer maintained so I saw the records. Still way to much for an 8 year old truck, at least it has low milage.
@@PHUCKyoutube689 yeah, my budget is under 20k but still hoping for a 2016+ next year. I hope things don't get too crazy. There are where I want them right now but work they would get a little lower. 16k would be a dream because I expect to sell my old truck for 16-18k and with a down payment it will lower my monthly, as well as my gas usage.
I just accidently found out my 2020 Taco TRD Sport stock radio plays videos... I downloaded a movie, MP4 to my USB, and in the menu, browse and videos and it automatically found the videos. Although you cant play them while driving. But now I can watch a movie while the wife is inside the store shopping.
Best of the Unknown features. I use Cruise control all the time but hate that when you get behind a slower car it automatically decreases your speed and then speeds up once you get around the slower car. So if you hold the cruise control button down a few seconds it puts you into regular CC and no longer slowing down and then speeding up.
I wish it was a little faster but that’s first world problems for sure lol. My radar caught a car that merged into a turn lane and decided it was gonna basically stop me as well before it noticed it left the lane.
man that’s the most annoying feature on the cruise control. my truck has slammed on the brakes before because it saw a car merging into the lane 50ft in front of me
The adaptive cc isn't perfect. It's brake slammed a few times. But I'd still rather have it on. I'm always in traffic and I just set it to 65 and I just let it ride
yeah, the radar is not great. even the collision prevention has issues. I've had it flash brake at me when someone was halfway into a turn and I was well far enough away that i had plenty of time they would not be in the lane anymore when i passed. it's jarring to say the least
I didn’t notice anyone else say anything about it but in relation to the holding the squares on screen for Siri. If you press and hold the voice icon thing on the steering wheel instead of pressing it. This also activates Siri and keeps hands on the wheel. Love this.
I think that maybe you need the technology package to have that feature button in the steering wheel, therefore, basic model folks w/out technology package will use that Car Play feature. I definitely would, if I didnt have that button on my steering wheel
Does the odometer stem brighten the touch screen too? I have a 2023 that was bright enough to see during day, and suddenly I can’t read it. I’ve only had truck for a week and don’t know if I did something that dimmed the screen.
Wow... glad I stumbled on to your video ....I have owned two Tacomas since 2016 and have never known this ... I bought a 2023 last month so I am excited to put these features to use. THANK YOU for sharing !!!!
That back seat folding feature helped me a ton. I got the 2023 and I was so disappointed the seats didn't lay flat when folded, now I'm rushing out to my truck to try this out 😂
🤯 The lay down back seats and the seatbelt buckles are what blown my mind. I use the compartments so much and get tired of fixing the buckles. I have a tactical hard shell camper on my bed for all my dogs. So the lay down seat you showed will definitely help me observe them on trips. Thanks 🙏🏻
I’ve had my Tacoma for about 2 weeks now. Read my manual but now I feel like I skimmed through it after watching this. Super helpful to know this stuff!
In the video, you made a promise! A PROMISE! You let me down🥹…I knew EVERY one of these things you showed, from watching many other videos. Sir, I do NOT make promises I cannot keep, I take them VERY seriously, and I keep EVERY SINGLE ONE. PLEASE DO BETTER 🥹😞
Got my 23 Tacoma 3 months ago and these were great tips man! I've been going NUTS over how to stop the back seatbelts from rattling all the time! Thanks!
Don’t worry, give it time, and the many sounds of your squeaking, rattling dash will drown out your rear seatbelts anyway. I’m a Toyota guy, but my 2016 has the noisiest dash I’ve ever heard, starting from 20,000 kms, and twice as bad when it’s cold in winter. If you’re bothered by sounds, get ready to go insane, or leave the stereo up. Lol
Thank you for all these hidden features. I have a 2017 off road and didn’t know not even one of what you mentioned lol. Can’t wait to get home and try them all. Thank you
This is an incredibly useful video! Especially the headrest and seatbelts. Up till now I’ve had to leave the rear headrests at home if I needed to fold the seats. Or not frustrate rear passengers trying to find the seatbelt buckles. Toyota, rock solid reliability and coffee-drinker friendly to boot.
I was wondering why the rear headrests folded down, now I know. So I can see out the back more clearly. Thanks for the tip about the rear headrests fitting into the seat when it is folded forward. The manual said that they would do that but I could not get them to fit. After watching you insert them into the seat I pushed them right in. Marvelous.
Thanks my man. I've had my Taco for a few months now and you taught me something new. I did not know the head rest back seat hack. I will definitely be flipping them all the way down now and putting hunting gear there instead of on the leather seat. Thanks.
This is good to know. I put in an order for a 2023 Tacoma last week. It'll be 6-12 months before it's built but once it's here I'll be making use of this info for sure.
Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of selling my full size diesel and have been contemplating getting a Tacoma. Seeing this just may have sealed my choice. Thank you very much. Have a blessed day.
Just bought our 2023 Tacoma Limited two days ago. This is very helpful . So much easier to “see it “than to “read it”. Hope you do a video on the navigation system and gages . Thanks so much!
Just encase it hasn't been mentioned, when you leave the door open when outside of the cab, you can turn off the chiming by pressing and releasing the light button on the door frame.
I just found your page. You obviously have that uncanny perception for the obvious. lol After putting almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra Double Cab 4.7 L, LTD, TRD with All Weather package, the frame rot is forcing me to trade for a Tacoma SR, Access Cab, 2.7L 4 cylinder, 6' bed 4×4. I'm surfing YT pages for info on this model to convince myself that I'm on the right "no bells & whistles" track. At 73, I'm just looking for economical transportation in a truck. You have a new subscriber.
Frame rot caused me to trade ‘02 Tundra, 312k mi. For ‘21 Tacoma V6 4dr long bed. Love it, but miss the powerful torque of the V8 Tundra. But 24-25 MPG better than 16-17 MPG.
Cool! Thank you! One question I have is how to use the stereo without the engine running? The two-tap on the start button turns on the ACC option, but a bunch of warning lights and check engine come on. Freaks me out! Thanks!
2nd Gen has the headrest tilt, but different mechanism. Has the holder in the seat bottom, clip on the pillar, and the pockets for the seatbelt--I use both of the last two all the time because I use the storage bins on the regular. BUT, they screwed us on the bed light... we don't have one.
We have a 2001 Toyota in Tacoma. We love it. We bought it in a used car lot last year & paid for it in cash. It was my husband's birthday/Father's day gift🦋💚🥰🙏🌻
I bought a brand new tacoma yesterday, and when I drove it home, about 180 miles, i gassed up and i was looking at that clip trying to figure out how it hooks on, i just hooked the edge of my gas cap over the clip, i knew it was wrong, now you showed me right. thanks for the guidance. 👍
One I have that is nice. It has been so annoying to drive in the snow and not be able to actually turn off the traction control. If you push the button is diminishes it but it’s still activated. I found if you hold the traction control button while in park, another light on the dash appears and fully disengages traction control
Just traded in my 2014 Tacoma (Was a bit sad) for a 2023 Tacoma (Happy) and these were good to see, some of them I did not know especially that rear seat one so thanks.
These are little things that you find out about after owning a vehicle for several years, and then suddenly it hits you "Wow, I never knew it could do that!" 😎
Just bought a 2023 trd sport yesterday you have some good information, I didn't even think about any of this just learning the new truck. I love the Tacoma, had an older one and put a lot of miles on it with no problems at all, very dependable trucks that hold their value very well.good video.
Right on Doug that’s awesome man! They seriously are the most reliable Trucks out there! I wish I got the sport but it was either get the sport in black or my voodoo blue sr5. I had to go with the limited edition because it’s just an awesome color.
Nice video....as someone said below I to am too lazy to read the 1000 page owners manual. These videos are very helpful. I can sit in the morning and drink coffee and learn about our recently purchases 2019 Tacoma. Thanks Jacob!
Dude, you’re some clueless clown…Ford trucks are awesome! Have owned F-150s, Lightnings, and still do a Ranger and F-350 besides my TOYOTAs. Learn facts before talking garbage…
@@brucepoole8552fits 4x8 sheets perfectly, I routinely get 10’ hardwood boards and strap them in the bed as well. All works perfectly. If we wanted a larger bed we would get a different truck.
Thank You! I have one for you…look next to the drivers seat on the floor you’ll find a perfect spot for a steering wheel lock. I don’t think they designed it for that, but the key locking mechanism fits in the little half circle before the seatbelt on the floor. It fits perfectly and is stored out of the way.
@@jacobhenrytacomahey Jacob I know you I was watching your directions on your truck anything is I didn't see anything I know you was doing the back seats and everything but I have a question I have a hard time yeah Jacob
Nice video Jacob !! I have owned a 2nd GenTacoma (12 years) and a moved to a new 3rd Gen Tacoma (2017). I started to watch this video and paused the video to check out the back cab features as you presented them. Funny after owning the 2017, now 6 years old, I have NOT noticed ANY these features, but so happy to have learned from this video. My guess is you have the 2021 afer the implementation of Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. In any event---- Thanks !!!
Ya I was going to add that one to the video but I am thinking about making a video about all the ways to optimize your driving experience and have that one in that video. What do you think? You think people would watch that one?
Just picked up my 2023 SR5 long bed this past Tuesday and immediately felt the lack of interior storage that my 2008 Tundra had. You just made my day and upcoming trip to NC so much better with Tip #1!! Even my sales guy didn't know to show me that feature, and he also has a Tacoma.
Dude thanks for that fold down rear seats feature #1. Its just me and the wife. We rarely drive additional people. Having that hard surface to cart plants, groceries etc is great. The added greater visibility is great too. Props!
Great video. I did know about the anti-rattle seatbelt clips as I have them on my 2021 Tundra. I am thinking about downsizing to the Tacoma as I am not towing boats or other things as much as I used to.
Great video! I just traded in my '08 for a '19 and found these hidden features very cool. I'm heading out to my truck now to use 4 of them! Specifically, the back headrest (fold or store), rear seat belt pockets, gas cap holder and dash light dimmer. Thanks!
I have been going down a RU-vid Tacoma rabbit hole. It started when I was thinking about finally getting one. Mine is scheduled to come in this Wednesday!!!! WOOT!!! Thanks for the helpful tips.
If you leave the bed light switch in the middle so it activates with the doors, instead of leaving it on and letting the rundown prevention turn it off, you can change the delay for the lights in the infotainment system. It does keep the cab lights on also but you can change it from a few seconds to several minutes if I remember.
You mentioned the dash lights dimming, but there is also the audio panel daylight vs night settings. Bring up the menu and choose display and it gives the option to either turn on or turn off daylight setting.
I like the feature where you squeeze the left side of the driver’s door handle to lock the doors, and make it beep twice to deactivate the key fob. I think that is what happens. Until you return and pull the handle and it unlocks the driver door.
I didn’t know of the gas cap holder, the rear headrest holder and the fact the bed light stays on for only 20 minutes. The rest I figured out. Also, the idea of leaving the back seat down for better storage. Thanks!!!!
On most Toyota vehicle's, the metal door latches inside the door frames can be used as a bottle opener. However, I noticed they changed the design on the 3rd gen Tundra so I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of it on the new Tacoma also.
I just got my 2023 Tacoma, thanks for the tips, don't know much about it yet but I can manage to set the alarm off when sitting and no clue what I did and takes time to figure out how to turn it off..☹️so annoying..
I haven't seen anyone else bring it up, so I'll throw it out there. I was dicking around with the key fob and the truck started! WE HAVE REMOTE START FROM THE KEYFOB!! They don't tell you this because they're trying to get app subscribers. You press lock 2x then long hold lock, and the truck will start. At least mine does. I have a 2021 DCSB w/auto trans.
I have my dash lights turned down. I will check on the back seat fold down tomorrow morning thanks. But I am concerned as I keep my seat pretty far back being 6'2" and 270lbs. Big guy needs room! But I will check it out, thanks. Maybe just the pass side.
@@jacobhenrytacoma I had to only sacrifice a small amount of room in the drivers seat but they both folded down giving me plenty of room in the back. But there was no way the headrests posts would fit into the holes. Alignment was perfect but the posts were just too thick in diameter to go into the holes. So they just sit in the cubby space behind the seats. Pretty neat though giving me a lot of room for groceries or boxes. Thanks. Mine is a 2022 sr5.
@@markrossnagel4680 awesome to hear that you can make it work. But that’s odd that the bars where too thick, I have a ‘21 SR5 and when I first tried to do this it took a bit of force to put it in but after the first time it went in easy. Maybe try it again. Let me know if it worked
Nothing new for me, but will be useful for others. The gas cap one, doesn't work out to well during below zero days. I've heard of people snapping the tether/string when it got too cold, if it doesn't get to cold where you are then you're good.
The 2nd gen also has a lot of these features on the interior, in fact the entire rear seat of the Tacoma is exactly the same between the 2nd and 3rd gen. Nice having the fold-down seats with the hard plastic backing for larger items. The removable cup holders and the dimmable gauge cluster were also on the 2nd gen too, just in a more basic way. Toyota really thought through the interior design even way back in 2004 when the 2nd gen Tacomas debuted.
@@tommyboy0379 Yes, since the rear seat is identical in both the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas, you still have to remove the rear headrests. Not too difficult but I can see it still being an inconvenience. Gas cap still twists off. The fuel-door is pretty much the same on the 2nd and 3rd gen. Thinking of buying a locking cap or something. Would’ve thought that the 3rd gen would have a fuel door that locks by now.
@@TJFT1234 to be honest not really sure what he meant by “old fashioned” but I just assumed he was asking if it’s just as basic as the 3rd gen is, which it is. Not really any changes that I can think of to make a gas cap more high-end. Still think it would be nice if the fuel-door locked. I’m assuming the 2024 model will have it all changed.
