That last story is heartbreaking because Frank's friend was not a male, but a female octopus. The reason she wasn't interested in doing anything was she had laid eggs and was protecting them, she was sacrificing her life to make sure her babies hatched. This is what the females do, they won't move away or eat, they are on guard until those babies hatch which means they die so their babies live. Octopi are playful creatures and I am happy he met this special friend, hope someday he meets another one.💕💕💕
Noo😢. Well I hoped that someone will explain this behavior (maybe an illness), but this Is just sad. Circle of life....but sad. Thank you for explanation.
@@ReSiHaBru You're welcome. Not many people know that the female octopus does this and I only learned about this two years ago. I love animals and I am still learning so much about the animal kingdom.
You would love Dive Talk!!! They are 2 cave certified divers in Florida who react to all kinds of diving videos. I am a strong swimmer but I am claustrophobic so their videos give me chills!
That story with the person and their father was deeply sad. I've lost a parent to sudden circumstances as well, and I still think about what I wish I could say to them. Not to be too "spiritualist" but there's a part of me that wonders, if angels exist, if that person's father actually saved their life that day.
I’d believe it. My dad passed less than three weeks ago, and this story hit hard for me, too. Thank God for my faith, or I’d have no way of being able to function in my grief.
It WAS his dad and his dad was there to save his life. That's why he came. They do that sometimes. Why some people and not others, I have no clue. I've heard numerous stories about people who were saved by departed relatives. Trust me, his dad knew EVERYTHING, too. Every word his son wanted to say, every regret. He knew. I'm glad his son realized that.
I just want to let you know that it’s awesome you don’t do mid-roll ads. Nothing sucks like listening to something in bed and hearing “HOW MANY SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE YOU PAYING FOR? WITH ROCKET MONEY YOU CAN FIND SNEAKY OR FORGOTTEN-“
The last story, Fredrick, was most likely a female. A female octopus guards her eggs until they hatch. They don't eat during this time and pass away after the babies are born. It's sad because they are truly amazing creatures.
The last one was such a cute story. 🥰 Though a bit 💔 coz of them not meeting again. I'm scared of the view from under the sea but I absolutely love stories of the deep. More stories like these please Joel. Btw, i so love your narration. Tried to listen to others, but i always end up not finishing their stories and switch back to you. Scroll to a few years back uploads. Thank u!
Unfortunately they likely weren't meant to meet again. Fredrick was most likely a she, because what's was described in the story looks a lot like the brooding behaviour of white spotted octopus(we have a lot of them off Europe's coasts, they also live on American East coast too), they change colour to red and then sit for multiple days covering the spot where their eggs are laid, refusing to eat/move/do anything else really until the eggs start to hatch, and then they move away to warmer waters so that they don't compete with their own babies for food/don't accidentally eat them
@@jak582filmweb 😲 ohh really? Good to know why Fred's not moving away from that last spot where Frank saw her no matter what happened. 😊 Fred's got eggs to protect then. Been really wondering why was she like that. Thanks for sharing.
About the last story: Frederik may have been a girl. When octopuses lay eggs, they will hide them in holes or crevices and then guard that location until hatching, often starving in the process. :(
Being stuck in an tight underwater cave wearing a thick restrictive wetsuit and heavy diving gear is definitely a claustrophobes worst nightmare.....my heart rate has increased quite a bit just writing this.....
I don’t find wetsuits restrictive at all. Maybe dry suits, I’ve only ever worn dry suits a handful of time and not keen but they have a purpose but I don’t find wetsuits restrictive and I’m in the North Sea in winter
I'm 13 and have had insomnia for 6 years, and when i do sleep i have terrible nightmares and sleep paralysis.when i listen to your storys they help me sleep at night and have had amazing dreams for the past few months i have listened to you... ❤️Thank You ❤️
Having something swim under a 30 ft boat bigger than the boat a couple miles off the Ft Lauderdale coast while grouper fishing was good enough for me to not want to go swimming much less driving in the deep drink
Ok I have a question about story #1. After he came up from the lake, no one ever went back down to attempt to recover that body? What happened to it? Did they go back down and the kid was gone? Inquiring minds want to know!
Most likely it was determined too risky to make the recovery, especially buried that deep in silt. Like Everest, some bodies are there for the rest of time until they are absorbed by nature.
I could never scuba drive, so hats off to those that do. I admire the seas & lakes, but deep water sends me into a panic attack! I absolutely love listening to your stories ❤️
This comment might not get that much attention, but what do you guys think was behind that door in that one story where it was opening? Very interesting story, let your imagination go wild.
What if it was the Flying Dutchman? Even though it’s meant to be sailing, what if it was the Flying Dutchman manifesting as wreckage? Or, what if it was Davy Jones’ literal locker? I’d rather it be that than like an eel, a shark, or a giant squid
The fascination with moments before death reminded me of when I used to remove bodies for funeral homes and what not, looking at things like a half filled coffee mug, a newspaper on the table, even urine in the toilet. Like how they probably had no idea they would finish the rest of that coffee. It’s surreal in a way.
I totally agree with you, the usual narrator of Lets Read is definitely the best, and I've listened to loads of audio narrators on RU-vid, i never ever get sick of hearing his beautiful voice ❤
I'm so ready for these stories 🤩 Man like all of these stories were really fucking scary. The deceased dad one was sweet though Damn Frank was a real legend
The story where he describes the fish with the human face screaming as it was pulled to the surface... I can't picture anything but a blobfish. And by now we all know why the blobfish screams. That should be a bumper sticker: I know why the blobfish screams. The one about the mob hit had me in agony. I could feel that situation from both sides and neither one was pleasant. I'd still rather be the one with the rebreather, though.
One of the best series of deep diving stories. I hope to hear more in the near future. Kinda terrifying as it involves near complete hopelessness in the unknown depths….spooky.
Whos gonna tell that man that Frederick was a new mom on her last cycle, and that having him as a friend was actually probably super exciting for her, he needs to know 😂❤ nobody writes better stories than nature
depending on how long the octopus was hanging out in that one spot, he could actually have been a she caring for eggs! a lot of octopuses will guard their eggs and just slowly starve to death while making sure the eggs make it to hatching
Can confirm that looking at those drops in the ocean floor is terrifying. Went snorkeling one time off a boat and I had to get out immediately. It unexplainable/ unimaginable and over all terrifying. It’s a very stark realization that we are so very small and fragile as human beings. Snorkeling was a soft try into diving ……but after that I knew I could never dive. It inspired fears I never had before. There was also a coral reef nearby and watching all the huge fish swim in and out without being able to see all of them…. Then realizing there could be anything hiding in there……. Ugh. I honestly panicked and begged to get back on the boat. The rest of the time me and 3 other people who freaked out watched everyone else and that was fun lol.
As a PADI scuba Instructor I was gonna say you can’t have a divemaster train you only they can only assist and shadow the Instructor. But they did mention the 80’s so maybe divemasters could train then? 🤷🏼♀️ 😂
I listen to Joel's videos every single night to fall asleep - this one is the only one so far that has really kept me up thinking (Currently 1.14am NZ time) ♥
Let's go! Can't wait to listen to my favorite scary story narrator! You have an amazing voice, your video quality is great and I hope to be a half decent narrator too one day, you are my inspiration and are an inspiration to many new and upcoming narrators!
37:00 I know exactly what that 'glow' was and yes, it happens to Navy warships as well as other ships and private boats all too often. Note, boat as opposed to ship? Boats are small and can be carried on ships. Submarines are often referred to as 'boats' but they are not boats as they cannot be carried on ships. For instance, while I served in the US Navy back in the 1970's, my ship carried several boats. One was a diver boat.
Listening to this at 3:47 am to go sleep and my ring doorbell keeps going off. It’s being going off twice hourly and I keep checking and nothing there. Can’t tell if it’s broken or something’s fu cling with but I’ve gone outside and have a .357 next to me. Gn😴🛏️💤
Frederick doesn't play. He said, "oh, you're gonna ignore me? Death for you! Haha jk." 😅😅 So freaking cute, best ending to the video. 💕 I hope he's okay, sounds like he was sick though, or maybe having babies. Frederick might be frederika.
Thanks Joel for your hard work you really are the best narrator I’ve listened to ❤ your stories are great and what with your voice makes it all the better ❤❤
This round of stories all centered on diving into the deep watery unknown of lakes and oceans is imo the most unsettling. Diving is not just dangerous it's a necessary skill for the complex infrastructural maintenance required to run civilization. Again, these are all the most unsettling stories centered on a world as mysterious as the surface of distant planets except that this alien world is here, on earth!
My brain and body has gotten so sloimed to the sound kf your voice i literally cant even play a game on my phone in the pitch black while listening 😂or i swear i have to replay the story. Its like my brain is programmed to lay down only when it hears your voice😂( which is a good thing or id stay up all night no matter how exhausted i am).😊
Had a school mate. who's dad was a Rescue Diver with the Fire Department in Copenhagen. One of their tasks is to clean the underwater statues. One day, the dad's dive buddy had gone down (only about 4 m deep) to clean the statues, when he suddently FLEW out of the water. When sitting on the pier, he muttered "There... there... there was a cyclist!!!" Well, it was too shallow for Nitrogen Narcosis so... WTF?!?!?! Turns out, an old man had tied himself to a heavy bicycle and drowned himself. The gasses inside him, had stood him up and the current had pushed him past the diver..
Story 1 was hard to understand or picture: I know he was hallucinating from narcosis - but we don't know if the kids body was ever recovered: that alone would have explained a lot. OP is quite disjointed in his re-telling. I hope that doesn't sound mean spirited, it's not intended to be.
Those stories were pretty scary to me as deep waters creep me out generally. Last story was sad, though, I think the creature was sick and/or dying at the end.
I watched a nature doc a while ago and when he said that the octopus had turned red and was refusing to eat is when I realized it was a female octopus who had laid her eggs and was at the end of life. I'm still here crying over a dying octopus, though.
i've been following this chanl for years now and this must have been one of the most interesting posts ever since. it has all the right dimensions, the fright, mystery, fun, keeps the imagination engaged..bravo, 10/10....keep up and please more deep sea stories :) amazing
Even if I was younger & in better shape I wouldn't do this kind of thing. Though I certainly have a lot of respect for those that do. I will say this Frank fellow shouldn't of been forcebly intimidated into relocating over running across some Dirty Cop's & or Mobsters dumping grounds. Innocent Bystanders shouldn't have to be the one's inconvenienced ! Same goes for any "Splunkers" enjoying themselves, given the amount of abandoned Mines here in California & Nevada.
I'm an avid diver and will soon be working in the diving industry. Out of all the other stories you do, this one scared me the most... I hope you do another collection soon!
@creepyscaryjapan Diver as well. And I agree, these seem to scare me more than other videos. I guess we can relate to some of these circumstances he describes, just enough to intensify the scary parts! Happy diving and stay safe!
How can a fish scream? It has no lungs or anything to create sound like a voice box. That story is badly made up, the others can be convincing because or narcosis and that making it believable, bust screaming blob fish is just ridiculous.
Because of a certain jellyfish scene from a certain underwater based movie and I guess now this video, I dont think I wanna go into any big open water based area, I'll stick to pools thank you very much.
I'm sorry- all of these stories are the scariest thing I've ever heard and now I'm too spooked to sleep. The kid smiling and continuing to dive down, the phantom diver giving the okay signal. 🤢
