Thank you so much for watching! I intend to cover a lot more Crusader Kings in the future and I'm really excited to do so. If you haven't picked up the game, you can grab it through my link here: www.nexus.gg/italianspartacus . a little tip when hiring Mercenaries (hard to explain, easier to show :D ) - hire them before you raise your armies, because when armies are raised, your income drops, and if you cant afford the Mercs up front, then you wont be able to go into debt (max debt limit is 2 years of monthly income) because your rallied army takes up most or all of your income. Basically 2 years of income before army is raised is your normal monthly income over 2 years, but when army is raised your monthly income drops and your income over 2 years drops with it and becomes nothing or close to nothing, so you cant go into debt, so you cant buy Mercenaries. TLDR: You can afford better Mercenaries, if you hire them before raising your main army.

I can actually decide if the content is interesting and since it is I have no issue watching with the adds as I exterminated that I enjoy the content. Some other RU-vid's have really anti viewer ads placements in the start or every 5 min, making me have to use ad block.

@@gorbachevdhali4952 think of it like a pyramid. The king is at the top and the main ruler of the kingdom, below are your dukes, king breaks up the majority of his kingdom to be delegated to the dukes. Dukes will then further break up the land given to them by the king and delegate the management to counts. Counts will usually have their lands (counties) have towns, churches, castles and stuff who's management get delegated to mayor's priests and barons; the bottom yet most numerous of the pyramid. The lowest tier manage the businesses that generate tax income who kick back some coin to the count, who kicks his coin and levies to the Duke, who kicks coin and levies to the king.

I’m playing as William the Conqueror. And when I first tried to go after England, I spent a good 15 minutes trying to find out how to raise my ships before I realized that you can just send your troops to the water and pay for the voyage. Not to mention that the war in this game is not something to take lightly. It took me two to three years to beat Harold into submission and another five years to defeat Hardrade... by that point, I was exhausted😂😤 In conclusion, I love this game.
@Draclord35
@Draclord35 3 года назад
Yup. Do not start a war you aren't absolutely sure to win and make sure that: 1) your opponent was already at war very recently and therefore weakened. 2) your opponent doesn't have any good alliances or that your allies are stronger. 3) Do not hesitate to go into debt buying mercenaries to win a war. Winning a war is much more important than 5 years of debts.

Here's a big one: Siege weapons are completely bonkers. They cost very little apart from the initial cost of creating their regiment, they insanely speed up your siege times tho. Having 20-40 siege weapons, even with no other men at arms will enable you to rush in, take your enemies' castles at a fever pitch and get your warscore up to 100% so fast, even their allies will often struggle to get there in time to stop you. This is probably one of the first things to get hit by a major nerf since it's completely op right now, but as long as it's still this way, take advantage of it I say^^
@Livingvapour
@Livingvapour 3 года назад
yea im starting to feel a lot of man at arms are kinda shit unless you got thousands lol. for sub 1000 armies just go full siege weapons lol.
@Erosionz
@Erosionz 3 года назад
Thats how Romans conquered most of Europe so fast in actual history iirc, they had siege weapons and tactics which enabled them to Blitzkrieg
@John-cq9ew
@John-cq9ew 3 года назад
@@Livingvapour Well not necessarily, early on especially for tribal rulers men at arms can make up a hefty portion of your army and they are stonger (Unless countered by enemy man at arms) than normal levies. When you start getting the later men at arms regiments - Xbows, heavy cav etc... then they start to become pretty insane especially the cultural ones (cataphract... cough... cough..). Also whenever building men at arms keep in mind who you are going to attack next and their army comp, it can have a massive effect on the battles you are going to take, as when a man at arms regiment gets fully countered their effectiveness drops to just 10% so in case of the insane cataphracts with 120 base damage, getting fully countered by spearmen will drop their attack value to just a mere 12 which is barely higer than a mere levy, so keep that in mind.
@Draclord35
@Draclord35 3 года назад
@@John-cq9ew This. You can absolutely ravage a bigger army than yours if you have the right comp, on the right terrain with better commander and better knights than your opponent (definitely had that in Ireland... fully levy army of 2000 men Vs my 1500 with better commander and 200 archers... in a forest... the enemy lost hard). And getting siege weapon is fine and dandy... until you realize it takes one spot that is absolutely useless in an open field battle. So... yeah your sieges will be faster but that will comme at the cost of less effectiveness on an actual battlefield which might prevent you from siegeing in the first place. Nefing siege weapons will make the tradeoff even worse.

One thing I feel cannot be overstated is how important knights are to smaller nations. they do crazy damage, and it is routine for my knights with 10% effectiveness to do more damage than all your men at arms, or all your levies, or for 1k and lower stack size, more than all other sources of damage from your army combined. But then you start running into ivar the boneless's 35 prowess champions that he buffed with chivalry's 70% knight effectiveness from a single perk, and it just gets crazy. That's a single guy putting out 6000 damage, which is as much as 600 levies. And unlike men at arms, they have no counters. These guys are crazy and make investing in military upgrades kind of completely unnecessary. Do not neglect knights, knight efficiency, or the chivalry tree in general. Knights are crazy. Even 10 knights with 10 prowess each is still as much combat damage as 1000 levies, in basically zero combat width. Just make sure to disallow your council from ever becoming a knight, as when you have 10 or more of the guys on the field at once, it can be very easy to drop to 9 and end up with your 3 prowess 16 diplomacy chaplain to all of a sudden get real dead real fast.

Also if you can save up a lot and get access to war elephants they are literally tanks. A single levy of elephants or heavy cav early on can lead to extremely easy wars even if numbers do not favor your side. Of course it's not a guarantee of victory, but it is possible to win battles you otherwise shouldn't with them.

Another essential beginner tip - Pick your first character carefully. Picking a good, training-wheels character for your first game will help any player cut his/her teeth on CK3. The Petty King of Munster is a good choice, but I'd recommend the Earl of Dublin instead - Earl Murchad. Playing this guy will teach a new player so many useful things in the first 20 years of the game. What he has going for him: 40 years old with three sons and his 71 year old father is Earl of Leinster; you almost certainly get an early inheritance and are not going to get an early game over. He is a very safe character to go from Count to King as, who will give you early experience managing successions, marriages, alliances (your Dad and whatever family your son marries into), conquest, and title creation. Moreover, lots of mechanics get introduced in increments as this guy. You don't start the head of your line (that's papa), but you will become the head shortly. You don't start as the Irish culture leader, but one culture conversion and one county conquest later, and you will be.

One point I might have added is some commentary on the significance of Religions AND Cultures. You highlighted very well the implications on income and troops of not being a vassal's natural ruler. If you have plans to expand into areas that are different culturally and religiously (as, for example, you mentioned looking to act against the Byzantines in the distant future), however, those factors are in many respects potentially even more significant. It might be good to cover them as well as how to resolve them, as not everyone will be operating in culturally/religiously homogenous areas. Just some thoughts in response to your question near the end. Excellent introduction, thanks. Played plenty of CK2. Cheers

Hooks do absolute jack shit unless you need them for something specific like revoking titles or demanding money (Golden obligations). I mean sure you can catch a very attractive marriage proposal with one but why would you have hooks on random characters anyway. Mostly you'll have hooks on your children and random courtiers or vassals, people in your court can easily be made 100 opinion so you don't really need hooks for most things anyway.

That first tip though 🤦‍♂️... The amount of times I kept hovering over it and it kept disappearing and I couldn't get it to stay open 🤣 Great tips here, atleast 4/5 that I've completely missed when starting. Awesome video, glad I subbed yesterday 👌 My own personal tip might be a simple one but don't forget to raise men at arms in the military section. I was running around with Levy (Peasants) wondering why everyone else had double my "army" size 😬

Awesome video. My first ever time playing I learnt so much and failed hard but it was fun . I played Munster and got a had of vassels who turned against me so I beat them and put them all in prison and kept them as holdings. I was making loadssssss. But little did I know is that the Holdings didn't all go to my primary heir and I had a tonne of kids, like 10. When I died and hire took over all hell broke loose. Brilliant

Veteran as well but my tip is don’t call in all allies unless dire. You lose tons of prestige.
@jackochainsaw
@jackochainsaw 3 года назад
Would agree with that one, and I'm a complete noob. My first Petty King of Munster went -1097 on the reputation score because I was busy trying to steam roll and unite the Kingdom of Ireland. There were still 3 counties left by the time of his death. His son became Great King of Ireland and I've learnt enough to keep him healthy on the reputation thus far.

Eh. If you're the head of the dynasty you can call some of your house members in for free, so if I'm currently playing as one I'll usually go ahead and call somebody in, even if it's not that big a war. (Provided you have enough landed house members lying around the map anyway.) If I'm not, I'll default to calling in whoever's cheapest for the the amount of help they provide because I like the extra security. I just make sure I always have decent amount of prestige on hand for such occasions, or take the hit and go into prestige debt if the character in question is pretty old and liable to die soon anyway since prestige debt doesn't get passed on to their heir

I'm very new to the series. I think I have maybe 15 hours in. Started watching beginner tutorials and this is the first one that has mentioned the tip about checking if your vassals are holding back taxes/levies for whatever reason. That was very much a "omg I needed to know this!" moment. . .though I imagine that is going to keep happening. Which is why I am watching all these videos. Anyway! Thanks for taking the time to make all these! I am excited to continue down the playlist because this game seems great and I am only sad it took this long for me to discover Crusader Kings in the first place.

a funny interaction i have found is if you are facing an annoying vassal rebellion, while you have the abduct ability and can arrest any of the vassals with it. they will be removed from the vassals that are rebelling, plus any vassal in prison cant join factions.

Appreciate the video. I've been having some early game trouble and this gave me a few ideas for the next try. How you you handle your first ruler death and the splitting of your territory? This tends to be where I fall apart. My conquests get divided between children and vassals, most have a claim to the main title so they won't ally up, military strength drops dramatically, and then I get overrun.
