'How can I help when my child feels like a failure?' That’s a question many parents ask.
9-year-old Keane is an overachiever who has appeared in more than 35 films and commercials, and won international singing competitions. But he’s unhappy and stressed out about his grades in school.
Is the pressure coming from his peers, his school, his parents, or himself?
Dad, for one, is philosophical - he says, "When you score 100, actually you learn nothing. But if you score 50, there’s a lot to learn.” But do others feel the same?
ALSO WATCH: Should an 11-year-old pursue his passion or his grades? • 11-Year-Old's Passion ...
The series "The Family Affair" puts the spotlight on the difficulties of parenting in fast-changing times. FULL EPISODES: www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...

To be honest i feel like even though his dad and mom says oh is just him being high achieving and putting the pressure on himself. But i feel lk at 1:36 when the kid have to reach out for his father cautiously and that the father tone "what again?" kinda make me feel sad for him. Maybe why he always dont feel like he is good enough, cause he is not receiving the acknowledgement from his mom and dad. That's why he's questioning himself and never felt that he's good enough.

Good enough = Putting your 100% effort, even though you may not emerge as the best among your peers. I think the kid needs more encouragement so he doesn't feel so stressed up. I feel sorry for this kid. I think it is the parents' ideals to be in the limelight - 'living the dream' through the kid. Making their ideals become his ideals - if that makes any sense? Hence, the feeling of inadequacy is there. And you can't have it both ways - you can't expect the kid to do well, yet have him do filming till 1am in the morning - ON TOP of having a packed schedule of tuition, enrichment classes, creative lessons, etc. So really, where is the time to study? And some kids take more time with education (trust me, I can empathise with such kids). My take is, even as an adult, if you have to go thru this regime on a daily basis, even YOU will break down at some point. So what more a child, who is still in developmental stages in terms of physical, emotional and mental... Sorry lah, I don't agree with all these. End of the day, you want a happy child and WE adults, especially parents, need to learn to accept a happy child as he/she is. Not as what we had envisioned would make a child happy - that's an unrealistic expectation and unnecessary burden of responsibility on a child.

This kid should have the child hood he deserves for all the hard work he is doing. His parents should be proud of him and helping him if he struggles, not telling him his effort isn't good enough. Because the worse feeling in the world for any child is knowing your parents aren't proud of you or are supporting you

? "To nuture his ambition, his mum spends at least $2,000 a month on lessons." So, in this video, the child said that he wants to be a celebrity at 0:29. His parents agreed to this and funded his lessons. So to a certain extent, he wanted this. This has led to him not doing as well as he planned due to the stress he experienced through filming. Keep in mind, he wanted to be a celebrity, so he needs to learn through lessons in order to be a celebrity. So, due to this catastrophe, he said that he asked for tuition. He said this, at 2:18. You're right, they don't know how to be a parent. They shouldn't have put him through that, but keep in mind, to a certain extent, he wanted this.

@contorgonflame452
@contorgonflame452 3 года назад
Unfortunately, even if you are a famous celebrity, in a country like Singapore, the masses will still judge you by your academic achievements. The education system differs across countries, and just because the education system is bad in one doesn't mean that it's bad in others. At his age (primary school) is where he learns the basics, such as sentence structures and grammar (English), life cycles (biology) and simple algaebric manipulation (math). Saying that he should be taken out of school at that age is akin to allowing him to have less general knowledge than all of his peers who would have gone through at least the primary education system, leaving him at an obvious disadvantage already. By the way, the primary education system happens to be mandatory in that country. So if he's pulled out without special admission from the government, his parents are liable for a penalty for breaking the law. Before making a sweeping statement and criticising all schools for being "useless", just remember that not everyone has experienced the same as what you've experienced, and that people in different countries have different opinions on education. And if, by any chance, you're from the same country as the kid, then all I can say is that you and him have very different ideas of success. Even with all that pressure, he still opts for voluntary tuition instead of sitting back and just complaining about how bad the education system is. IMO, he should be supported but not overly pressured, which would depend heavily on his parents' (especially his father's) attitude towards him in encouraging him to work towards his dream, while not being overbearing. Only this way can he both pursue his dream and stay relatively stress free. Feel free to rebuke my statement with your own constructive criticism
