While certainly not super exciting on a turn by turn basis, knowing that you're playing to fatigue requires a lot of strategy. Having all your combo pieces before you've gone through half your deck makes it a bit easier.
@edwardmarshall2035
@edwardmarshall2035 8 лет назад
Steven Kølnes A lot of strategy? Pretty sure it boils down to "How can I draw less cards than my opponent?". I guess it's relative. Still my point was watching 2 players hero power/pass for 15 turns isn't my idea of entertainment. Was cool to see firebat nail the damage calculation at the end, besides that and the misplays, it was a snooze fest.
@stevenklnes7148
@stevenklnes7148 8 лет назад
I never said it was exciting but knowing what you have, what you still need, and what you need to play to keep from losing an important piece all while assuming what an opponent may have and how they will react to your play requires forethought and strategy. Like feeding your opponent pieces in chess to get them to put themselves in a situation that advantages you. Too many people would rush in to try and end the game so you need to know when to commit, when to use removal, and when to cast that goddamn Acolyte of Pain! Sorry about that last one, that was a cringe worthy misplay.
@edwardmarshall2035
@edwardmarshall2035 8 лет назад
Steven Kølnes All fair points, but at the same time I never said it didn't take strategy. I think at that rank and as much as firebat plays he could probably pull his opponents decklist out of memory. The only thing that seemed to take him by surprise was geddon and maybe Harrison. Firebat is not like many people, and I don't even think many people who play control would rush in to end the game quickly. That's just not the win condition in control v control matchups or most control games. Yeah, the acolyte misplay was huge. Getting rid of a dead card and accelerating your opponent into fatigue is pretty huge, luckily it was irrelevant this time.

You definitely dont play justicar there. Let the remaining ambushes get burned, delay fatigue and fewer minions to deal with in the long run. When they get burned, you don't draw the additional card like normal, so you basically add 2 cards to your deck.

The math relevant to fatigue dmg is "the Triangular Series". It's like the series of Perfect Squares, except the squares are triangles. I.e. the nth number of the series corresponds to "the total number of dots in an equilateral triangle, where: the length of its sides is n". E.g. a triangle with length (3) contains (6) dots - and coincidentally the 3rd Triangular Number is (6). O O O O O O The first twenty numbers are 0, 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45, 55, 66, 78, 91, 105, 120, 136, 153, 171, 190, (etc) Like how we associate gravity with Issac Newton, mathematicians associate the Triangular Series with a dead German mathematician named Carl Gauss (arguably the greatest of all time). It's fabled that he invented a shortcut, which may resemble the formulas others have posted. The formula stacks the triangle on top of itself to form a rectangle, finds the area of the rectangle, then divides it in half. E.g. for (n := 3), the rectangle has a length of (3) and a width of (3 + 1). So the formula is (1/2) (3) (3 + 1), which reduces to (6). Therefore, the 3rd Triangular Number should be (6). O + + + O O + + O O O + T(n) = (1/2) (L) (W) = (1/2) (n) (n + 1) = (1/2) (n^2 + n) T(3) = (1/2) (3) (3 + 1) = (1/2) (9 + 3) = (6) The dmg generated by any given Mill Combo M(d, f) equals T(d + f + 1) - T(f), where: (f) is the turns of fatigue he's taken before the combo; and (d) is the card draw that the murlocs generate. E.g. Brann and two Murlocs generate (8) card draw, so (d := 8). You waited until the opponent had already taken (5) turns of fatigue, so (f := 5). The (+ 1) represents the opponent's extra tick of fatigue after you End Turn. T(f) represents the fatigue damage the opponent has taken before the combo. M(d, f) = T(d + f + 1) - T(f) M(8, 5) = T(8 + 5 + 1) - T(5) = T(14) - T(5) = 14 + 13 + (...) + 7 + 6 = (105) - (15) = (90) If you'd rather memorize a single clean formula rather than two formulas, we can expand T(d + f + 1) and T(f) then reduce M(d, f) to get (1/2) (d^2 + 3 d) + (f) (d + 1) + (1). For the sake of brevity, the derivation will be left as an exercise to the reader. M(d, f) = (1/2) (d^2 + 3 d) + (f) (d + 1) + (1) Sanity Check: M(8, 5) = (1/2) (8^2 + 3 * 8) + (5) (8 + 1) + (1) = (44) + (45) + (1) = (90) From this, we see that (d) scales polynomially while (f) scales linearly. This means that the dmg from the Murloc's card draw far exceeds the normal fatigue dmg taken from just sitting on the combo for an extra turn. Shield Block or Acolyte wouldn't have influenced the game one way or the other. Since the Exodia Combo E(f) probably won't change, we can assume that (d) remains constant at (8). E(f) = M(8, f) = (44) + (f) (9) + (1) = (45) + (9 f) = (9) (5 + f) So for this specific combo, the rule is "multiply fatigue by 9, then add 45". Or alternatively, "add 5 to fatigue, then multiply by 9".

Just multiply the highest number with the one exactly in the middle of the set (if there is none, just take the .5 step between the two middle ones) and you get the result. Example: 1+2+3+4+5 = 5 x 3 = 15. Or 1+2+3+4 = 4 x 2.5 = 10.

Yo, I made a JavaScript "program" to calculate the cards needed to kill your opponent, so you don't have to bother with maths. Just open Chrome (or any browser) and press F12, go to console and paste this: function calculateDraws(currHP, currFatigue) { var hp = currHP; var damage = currFatigue; var drawCount = 0; while (hp > 0) { hp -= damage; damage++; drawCount++; } console.log(drawCount); } calculateDraws(90, 6); Just make sure to replace the numbers in the brackets in the last row, the first number is your opponent's current HP and the second one is his current Fatigue, considering he is already at that point. I can make another where you can input the current card count in his deck if you want.

1. Define starting value (x) = e.g in this game: x = 6 2. Define how many card draw (z) = e.g in this game: z = 9 3. Define ending value (y) = e.g in this game: y = 14 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Add the starting and ending value and divide it by 2= (x+y)/2 = (6+14)/2 = 20/2 = 10 5. Multiply that number with z = 10 * 9 = 90 p.s: if z is an even number, then x+y will always be odd, to make it easier, you don't need to divide x+y with 2 (because of the .5 thingy), just multiply x+y with z/2 for easier calculation

Hi Firebat. Here is the formula: Current fatigue = F. Cards to draw = D: (F + (F+D-1)) * D/2. Which can be written as (2F+D-1)*D/2. In your case: (2*6+9-1) * 9/2 --> 20*4.5 = 90.

Just calculate the sum of the amount of cards drawn and then add the amount of cards times the already taken fatigue to the sum. i.e. 9 draws, opponent already took 5 fatigue at the last draw 9 draws = 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = (1+9)+(2+8)+(3+7)+(4+6)+5 = 45 Alternatively: (9*(9+1))/2 = 45 [According to (n(n+1))/2] Now we just need to adjust for the already taken fatigue damage: 5*9+45 = 90 Or in short: (f*n)+((n(n+1))/2) = Damage (f = last fatigue damage taken; n = the number of draws) The most difficult part is getting the sum of the fatigue damage for the amount of card draws, to be honest. (And for that, one should get along pretty nicely in Hearthstone with just remembering the triangular numbers up to 10.)

@Celrador

@prasanna2991
@prasanna2991 8 лет назад
Yes. The general formula for the sum of an arithmetic progression can be applied here too.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_progression My point is: The purpose of this deck against other control decks is typically to go into fatigue, and burst them with this 9 fatigue combo. My simple formula works for this specific case.
@fulmetalotaku3091
@fulmetalotaku3091 7 лет назад
So the formula for that combo is actually really easy, it's 45 plus an additional 9 for each additional turn they are in fatigue (if they are at 6 fatigue damage, 9*5=45 +45=90

guys, a easy way to do this math: he draw 9 cards; fatigue increase 1 damage for draw; 1st draw + 9st draw = 5st draw (x2), 2st draw + 8st draw = 5st draw (x2) ... so the damage is 5st draw (x9)

I guess you are talking about the fatigue combo: so you force the opponent to draw 5 cards, while fatiguing. So that means x, x+1, x+2, x+3, x+4. So we sum that up: 5x+10. So you will do a decent amount of damage.
@youngthinker1
@youngthinker1 7 лет назад
Ah, I see, you have brand. That means 9 cards drawn in fatigue. Which means 8x + (.5*8^2 + .5*8) = 8x+36. So you just need to know what the first fatigue damage is and there you go: 8x+36.

So in this case (with F = last fatigue) 45 + 9 x F That isn't too bad right?

Why isn't the Shield Block worth it? Even if we consider the eventual fatigue, it's basically worth (5 - (1 + n)) health - and the second one worth one less than that - where n is the difference between the cards in your opponent's deck and the cards in your deck. This is also not considering the huge drawback of milling Justicar.

I've posted it somewhere above already and will post it here as it is more generalized: (f*n)+((n(n+1))/2) = Damage f = last fatigue damage taken n = the number of draws It's just the respective triangular number (the guaranteed damage due to the amount of card draws) and the already taken fatigue damage (which means you just have to multiply the amount of card draws by the last fatigue damage taken), which are important. Example for this video: Last round before the kill the opponent took 5 fatigue and he was forced to draw 9 cards. (5*9)+((9(9+1))/2) = 45 + ((9*10)/2) = 45 + 90/2 = 45 + 45 = 90
@arthurrey578
@arthurrey578 8 лет назад
I know that, but 9(n+4) is obviously way easier to compute.
@Celrador
@Celrador 8 лет назад
Arthur Rey And obviously only applies in this case. What if you can only force 5 draws? You need to throw away your calculations and start from scratch, while I just gave you the generalized formula.
@arthurrey578
@arthurrey578 8 лет назад
In that case it'd be 5(n+3). Of course it applies to certain scenarios, but Firebat explicitly said he didn't know how to do the maths, and didn't like it, so might as well have a few easy ways to do it.

Because I don't thrust my math nor firebat's, I actually posed and made a "program" that calculate the damage for me.

People are putting up these weird formulas, I'm not gonna bother checking if they work. It's 9x + 45 (and works for negative numbers, so it will kill a 30hp opponent with 1 card remaining). The +45 I had to math out (cheated and used a calculator cause lazy), but its obviously going to do 9x the fatigue they just took.
@natesytacct
@natesytacct 8 лет назад
Actually, just tested negatives with calculator. it doesn't work other than -1. You'd have to memorize that 2 cards remaining would be 28 (formula would give 27) and 3 would be 21, 4 would be 15. It's subtracting 9 each time when it should subtract progressively less. There's prolly a more convoluted formula that would work, but I'd rather just remember 28,21,15, 10 if I were playing the deck.

Illusionist is going to make Warrior a tier 1 staple for a year and a half, mark my words. It is more consistent and powerful than Monkey because it has guaranteed results. Any normal control deck can throw in the 4 card combo and drop it at any time once fatigue hits. It allows Control to play a much more tempo oriented early and mid-game compared to, say, Murloc paladin, because you aren't dropping low impact murloc cards on the board. I bet it gets nerfed.

because sacrificing 4 (kinda 5 with thaurissan) card slots to beat strictly pure control and nothing else is OP in a game where aggro/midrange will always be king?
@benhanson4199
@benhanson4199 8 лет назад
I don't think you understand how much more you will lose to aggro/midrange by having to run your deck like this - the bright side of running a control deck with standard threats to beat control is that they are useful for ending the game in 1-3 turns after you stabilized vs aggro/midrange, and coldlight combos simply won't do anything in that stabilized position. Not saying this isn't a powerful combo, but there's no way in hell it becomes tier 1

you're not using malchezaar for the ultimately fat warrior? though, on second thought I suppose he fills the same role as violet illusionist here, and in addition stuffs your deck with 2 good, and 3 useless cards.

How would he fill the same role as the illusionist dude? she makes you invincible he only gives you 5 cards.. huge difference

You said 9 factorial, but that would be 1x2x3x4x5x6x7x8x9, which is VERY far from the actual 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 damage Know your math, firebat
