Interesting. So nostalgia can be felt via a sort of placebo effect?

AOL was the catalyst to many arguments in my household. Wether someone was trying to call the house phone for hours but were met with a busy tone or someone picked up the house phone, and kicked you off. The computer would start making noises, everything would slow down, you at that point knew what was coming and are yelling “WHO PICKED UP THE PHONE?!?!,” all the doors would start closing on aim and finally the daunting “goodbye.”

As soon as you said the doors would start closing I immediately remembered the sounds and that exact situation happening. What a different time that was...

As a previous commenter said, I thought this video had many more views than it actually has! Great video. I think times were simpler because of a mix of our innocence and because we weren't as connected to everything and everyone all the time. We didn't know about all the problems in the world all the time or saw people talking about their issues everywhere on the internet! It was simpler in a "I don't worry about as much" way to me.
@Rupninjatrash
@Rupninjatrash 2 года назад
To elaborate on that, I mean we didn't get online and see a bunch of people we don't know talking about their own personal issues or constantly talking about the problems in the world. I still use groups where we prefer to stay on topic (ex. Talking about a certain band) and it's much nicer than places like current Twitter, where it feels like you have to worry about everything!

It's funny you mention the flood of notifications on our phones now, because back in the day I remember obsessively checking if someone had replied to a message despite watching a movie or playing a game while messaging them. Puberty plus the early internet made us obsess over weird things that now we'd love to disappear from, ok maybe just mute while I'm fighting a boss in Elden Ring.

I knew troll dolls had been around for a long time but I didn’t know that had been around since 1959 The main thing people remember about the original troll dolls is the way they smelled You could close your eyes and someone put a troll doll up to your nose and you would know exactly what it was just from the smell💯

Will Smith is more of a Generation X. Most Millennial were toddlers or in early and middle years of grade school which most didn’t watch Fresh Prince on syndication. Maybe on reruns! (Laughing) Here’s another objective point of view: As you may know, it was in syndication until 1996 and when viewed after syndication it doesn’t count as part of their generation because even Gen Z could have viewed it after 2001. Right?

With the technology thing, it depends if you were one of those pseudo millennials that was born in the 80s or one that was born in the 90s. If you were born in the 90s, you grew up with the internet almost always being a part of life. The importance varied, but it was almost always there. Same thing with mobile phones. Honestly, grouping people born in the 80s and 90s is really inaccurate. They should both be considered their own generation.

The malls entry is interesting to me because here in the UK the towns and cities I've lived in/visited all have had very popular shopping centres. I can't speak for the US because I've never been but the stereotype there is that malls are large buildings constructed for that purpose and kind of expect to draw everyone to it even if its far away from existing commercial zones, while in the UK they seem to be built within the commercial hub of a town or city and serve more like an indoor street than a separate building. I mean I'll be honest, between my hometown and the town I studied in there were about 5 shopping centres and you could definitely see a lot of empty lots in them, but that's also true of external shops, lots of physical stores are shutting due to the ever-increasing use of ecommerce and the monopolisation by certain companies trying to sell everything to everyone... but I still see shopping centres here being that sort of hub that you described even to this day.

I'm so old The Simpsons was too risqué for my parents too approve of. I was before Toonami. I had to wait every Sunday morning for a new episode, and repeats for 2 years thanks to the Ocean Dub fallout meant I didn't see Goku's new abilities until I lost my virginity. I had to get the Japanese subs from Hawaii to know what happened! Nobody loved Smith for Wild Wild West. We just forgave him for it. Along with Kevin Kline. I graduated in 2001. If you had a Tamagachi you didn't date. Like, ever. Goddamn, I can't even go on. Such teenage nostalgia!!! I had a blast watching this. BTW, I got many dates off MySpace.
