You've just settled in to enjoy the movie of the week when a strange and flamboyant commercial flashes across your screen. The announcer insists that you must "call now" and it will only cost you $2 for the first minute!
Such is the world of the 1-900 number hotlines of the '80s & '90s. A world of bizarre encounters with everyone from Freddy Krueger to Corey Haim. Need to have a good cry? There's a 900 number hotline for that! Need a good laugh? Again... there's a 900 number to dial! Would you like to be insulted for fun? Uh... well, okay. There's a number for that too! How about a hotline number for Mac & Me? Would you believe that, yes indeed, there is a number for that. Just wow.
If you enjoy the video, please consider liking it, commenting on it, and even subscribing to the channel. We'd love to have you join in on the fun!

When my sister and I were 9-11 my parents told us if we ever called one of these 900# the neighbors would be calling 911! 😂

I remember seeing these ads for 1-900 hotlines on TV. They usually aired in the afternoon on our local independent channels. I heard that a lot of kids got into trouble for calling those numbers and parents getting sky high phone bills as a result. I was warned never to call any of those numbers ever.
@RetroDaze
@RetroDaze 5 месяцев назад
It was probably a fairly widespread thing to have kids calling without permission. 😆 The money was all the same to the companies though.

This was way before my time, so I asked my dad. He's never heard of these numbers, never saw them advertised on television. Of course grandpa would have never agreed to pay for a 5 min conversation with Santa (they also didn't have a telephone until my dad was 15).
