_The Shadow_ is a fun superhero-ish movie. It doesn't take itself seriously and is a little campy (not to the extreme of the 1960s Batman TV series) has good special effects... and the Shadow's iconic laugh and tagline are great to hear.
I've seen all of these. I agree with most of them. Some movies were always just going to do better through rentals than box office, though. I grew up in the country, pretty far from the nearest Movie Theaters back then. However, we were big fans of the local rental stores. In fact, it was our nightly thing to watch a rented movie. Weekends. We would rent 4 or 5 movies. Well, that was after TGIF lost its real relevance on the culture. Now days... I swear I can barely make it through ANY movie. It just isn't the same. Maybe it's nostalgia!
"Chaplin" suffered a lot from the abuse allegations that came out back then. That and of course Chaplin was an all around weird man. Props to "The long Kiss Goodnight". It's a great Christmas season guilty pleasure...
Hocus Pocus was a hit in the small town I grew up in. The movie theater was only 2 theaters, and they decorated it up all Halloweeny. It was the first movie about witches my Christian mother let me watch as a child so I was pumped. I never viewed it as a flop, same as The Edge. I thought they did well because they were so good.
How do you do this list and not bring up the super mario bros movie that came out in 95, it bomb in theaters but had a cult following when it was released on home video and still holds a special place for me since i grew up watching it alot on cable
@@nebulous8389 oh cool. Guess that's how/why it managed to get a sequel while the others on the list either don't have one or it took years to get one. Hocus Pocus, The Big Libowskey, and Fight Club is my favorites on the list.
@@ShadyRK9 Have you seen True Romance? It's actually one of the Stand-Out movies on this list. Quentin Tarantino as a Screenwriter and Tony Scott directing? It is excellent. If you like those 3 and didn't mention True Romance. It leads me to believe you may not have seen it. Because It fits well with your picks. Although, my tops would be Hocus Pocus, Army of Darkness, Fight Club and True Romance.
