I'm a similar age to you (43) and at the ripe age of 18, I vividly remember staying in NYE of 1992 (god knows why) and watching the TVS programme called 'Goodbye to All That', which was their own programme to look back over the years that TVS had been broadcasting. Did you watch TVS back then, and do you remember watching it at all? Being fascinated in TV idents most of my life, I found this a real treat, to watch an entire new TV regional station commencing, exciting times! If you do remember watching it, or maybe even if you don't, any chance you could do a small feature on it, with your memories and comments on the highlights? Love watching these videos for a festive nostalgic hit in the run up to Christmas! Also, BBC One's big hitter film for Christmas Day 1990 was the 46th most successful film of 1987 (sitting just in front of Ernest Goes to Camp), Baby Boom? Really?! An entirely forgettable 3 year old middle of the road Diane Keaton comedy. Geez. Time for another game of charades I think...
In the 80’s would be those Christmas stop motions specials (drummer boy, rudolph the red nose reindeer), Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton special “once upon a Christmas” (musical), cartoons related to Christmas, versions of “a Christmas Carol” (in cartoon or movie)... In the 90’s it got stupid and the main channel (in Brazil) kept airing “Home alone” 1 and 2 almost every year.

I love only fools and birds of a feather. I wish I could get all these great older English sitcoms and Christmas specials.i want to move to England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales if I ever win the lottery. I at least get Mrs Browns boys on Netflix and BBC Canada. Mrs Browns boys is almost as good as the sitcoms from the 70s,80s and 90s. Can someone recommend some good new sitcoms from the United Kingdom that I can look for online. I can sometimes get the newer English sitcoms and dramas if I know what to look for. If possible could you also let me know what good drama and police related shows are good. I do get pc 53 and father Brown but they are both a little bit older shows like I also get death in paradise.
allan fulton Sadly sitcoms seem to have died out apart from Mrs. Brown's Boys. Recommendations from the past include Miranda (wacky), Gimme Gimme Gimme (very rude but very funny), Not Going Out, The Thin Blue Line, 'Allo 'Allo, Open All Hours, Fawlty Towers, Keepin Up Appearances & Josh (not really a proper sitcom but still funny).
The 1990 BBC Christmas Day line up was fab! This year on the big day all I have to look forward to from the Beeb is Doctor Who. I certainly won't be tuning into yet another depressing, tragedy filled Eastenders Christmas.
I really miss Jack and Vera from Coronation Street. I wonder when they are going to bring back Steve’s brother Andy and hopefully his dad gets out of prison soon because I’m sure that Felan is going to get caught for killing Andy and that ex partner of his (sorry I don’t remember his name. I have a brain injury that affects my memory)who scammed him out of all that money. Ilene or Anna I think is going to be the one or ones who catch him and call the police o. Him while in the process of being kidnaped by him.
