Biography:
LaPhonso Darnell Ellis (born May 5, 1970 in East St. Louis, Illinois) is a retired American basketball player. He was an outstanding high school basketball player at East St. Louis Lincoln High School, where he led the Tigers to two straight Illinois Class AA boys' championships in 1987 and 1988. In a heavily hyped up matchup, Ellis outplayed Alonzo Mourning in a holiday tournament his senior year. Also in 1988, Ellis was named a Parade Magazine and McDonalds high school All-American. Ellis ended up attending the University of Notre Dame. Ellis' Notre Dame squad qualified for the NCAA tournament his freshman and sophomore seasons and were Runner-Up in the 1992 NIT Tournament. He played professionally in the NBA from 1992 until 2003. Ellis was one of four captains of the 1991-92 Notre Dame team. Throughout his career, he scored 1,505 career points, and averaged 15.5 points per game to earn school rankings of 12th and 22nd, respectively. He recorded 200 career blocks, a school record. He ranks third on the school's career rebounding list with 1,075, and eighth on the career rebounding average list, with 11.1 rpg. He led the '91-92 team in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (11.7 rpg), field goal percentage (.631) and blocked shots (2.6 bpg). He led Notre Dame in blocked shots in each of his four seasons, the only player in school history to do so. Ellis graduated from Notre Dame on time with a degree in accounting from the undergraduate college of business. He was the fifth overall selection in the 1992 NBA Draft, picked by the Denver Nuggets, and was named to the 1992 All-Rookie first team. He subsequently played in Atlanta, Minnesota and Miami, where he retired after the 2003 season. In 2007, Ellis was voted one of the "100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament," recognizing his superior performance in his appearances in the tournament. In 2009 Ellis began his first full season as a college basketball analyst for ESPN.

Just got done playing basketball with him and his family and some friends. Probably the nicest man I met ever in my life. Great family too. Mr. Ellis is a great guy!

One of my favorite NBA players ever. Wish he'd never had the knee injury early in his career, he would have been a beast. Great guy too, talked to him several times at the arena and was always happy to greet fans and sign autographs.

During his early years in Denver, he and his family often visited the movie theater I worked at in college. Seriously one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I've met.

Used to love this guy in that old Nuggets uniform his rookie year, hanging on the rim one handed! Such a shame he had those knee problems. He had to change his game completely

Man props for these mixes, they're awesome. And these are some players that have very little material to find, so even bigger props. Keep doing your thang man

Game 3... he had 18 points to the half, he dominated that game after a quite game 2. I have that series on DVD... you know what I don't think Kemp scored on him once. Yes Mutombo had 8 blocks in game 5... but look who had the rock when the game was on the line. Awesome!

For those saying this is a bad music. Let me enlighten you. As I replied to another person, LaPhonso was my favorite player when I was barely a teenager, I truly worshiped him. His career was plagued with so many injuries, it truly broke his fans hearts, surely his too. One of the biggest "what if" in NBA. For those who followed him back in the day, this music fits him well I reckon. Sad tho beautiful. I have no doubt @TheKingMisiek was a big fan of his too for making that choice.

lynchie137 Here is a guy by the name of LaPhonso "The Fonz" Ellis, who was supposed to be on his way to All-Star status until his unfortunate knee stress fracture ('94-'95), loose knee cartilage ('95-'96) and a sports hernia suffered while with the Atlanta Hawks in '98-'99 ensured that he had to change his game completely, which is very sad that some athletes don't regain their explosiveness. And his final solid NBA season came in his one and only year in Minnesota (2000-01) where he got to play alongside Kevin Garnett, Wally Szczerbiak and Chauncey Billups. Laphonso Ellis isn't the most known player in the NBA, but his game and potential may rival some of the most famous players in the league. He was drafted No. 5 overall out of Notre Dame by the Nuggets in 1992 and started off his NBA career strong with two solid seasons ('92-'93 and '93-'94) that made experts feel like he would be a premier power forward in the game going into his third season. Just like the stories of many others on this list though, a stress fracture to his right knee kept him off the court for nearly his entire third season (76 of 82 games missed). That injury paired with more to his other knee and a sports hernia plagued Ellis for the rest of his career, never fully allowing him to live up to the hype. Now i'll give you the link to his player profile: www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ellisla01.html click on the link above. Then after reading "The Fonz" LaPhonso Ellis' entire 11-year NBA career (impressive for a very injury-prone player) from 1992-93 to 2002-03,... ...what did you think about his time with the Denver Nuggets as well as his time with the Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat? Give me a player rating/team ranking number of either suckfest (3), solid (2) or superstar (1) with each of his NBA teams: 1) Denver Nuggets: ???/??? 2) Atlanta Hawks: ???/??? 3) Minnesota Timberwolves: ???/??? 4) Miami Heat: ???/???

Great Video! The Phonz was awsome! Will always be remembered for that block, was all star bound before the knee injury. A leader who always showed his emotion on the floor. You want to see clutch, watch game 7 Vs the Sonics in that historic win in Seatle, the ball went to Ellis when the game was in the balance in the 4th he was the complete player, who got the job done at both ends.

That only applies to my team where you can put whatever sigs you want on em. I only play association mode where his 93 potential makes him one of the best players in the game because after one season he goes up to like 90 overall.
