Volkswagen Golf GTI MK2 Restoration Project.
My buddy and I built this car over summer 2016. The original plan was to build a stock looking MK2 GTI. He wanted a reliable daily driver. We had a budget of $1,500. We managed to build it with $1,400 Total.
My buddy Jose has owned this car since 2006. The engine started having issues back in 2010, and the car sat in a back alley until 2013. We started working on it in 2013, but neither of us had the time to fully finish it. That's why some of the footage is "old looking" or is in poor quality resolution. In 2016, we decided to start working on it again and finally finish the project. Then one day, it turned into what you see in this video.
We rebuilt another OEM 1.8L 8V Engine and installed it. We replaced all of the gaskets, seals, fluids, lights, some trim pieces, suspension, wheels & tires, windshield, heater core, rear window (was broken 2 times in back alley).
This car went through a lot in the month we were working on it. The video explains it really well.....Anyways, ENJOY!
