You are a true hero! Very cool stuff. In searched for ET70 CupII’s for ages and finally found them. Having the correct offset wheel is super important on the 928.

Thanks. I didnt and most 928 owners don't fully understand the offset's implications on steering and responsiveness . When I drove the car back to back with the same wheels, tires and alignment specs it was very clear the 928's steering felt more natural with the higher off set. Most owners including myself think, 50 something offset... close enough but something far closer to 70 seems to work well in the real world. too.

I thought I was the only one that did this on my cars. I typically make my own brake hats to make use of the extra 16mm in full for wheel offset, but otherwise the same thing. I wish the 944 Billet hubs were cheaper because I'm always stressing out that my hubs will fail.

the 944 billet hubs are nice. I followed John's footsteps on this and did the 944 billet hubs. tucked my 8x19's nicely in. I had to use a 5mm spacer due to my wheels and the brembo F50 calipers. gaining 10mm on each side resolved my clearance issues

Ingenious solution! You're running quite a bit larger wheels than standard though, do you know how much more wheel diameter you have with those than the default ones? You will lower scrub (or gain negative scrub) with larger wheels, not a lot, but I guess 2-5 mm or so?

Great stuff ..I just bought a 928 s euro specs with 18ème turbo twists wheel ..the previous owner has fitted a rather large spacer in the back ..I just changed the tires and now a lot of rubbing..I am in New York..anyway I could come to you for advise ..my mechanic has no idea what to do ..cheers

This is awesome. what width tires and wheels are you running? I'm running Fikse 18x9 front wheels, and due to the front offset they do stick out. To complicate it a bit I'm also using a 355mm brembo GT brake upgrade and they come with caliper spacers, so I need to find out if brembo makes a 16mm flatter hat, correct? Also which version of the hub are you using? There are 5-6 versions between the late 944 and the 968.

The 951 hub.

Nice job!!! How much of the wheel stud is there with the spacer & rotor installed compared to the stock setup? Adding longer studs should be a piece of cake if needed, it looked a bit short in the video. If memory serves, there needs to be a certain amount of the stud sticking out past open lug nuts.

In this scenario 5mm shorter than OE. The next scenario will have a 350mm brake rotor with an aluminum hat with the ideal dimension so the 5mm spacer wont be necessary.

@@johnsgarage3771 legal for racing is half the threads of the nut has to be used . thats about 5 turns. not ideal. 1/8" spacer on a stock S4 spindle works, , but thats 3mm. 5mm is pushing it.

@@zanick2 Agreed, didnt know how well this was going to work out until I drove it and it's fantastic with the additional offset. I'm going order a custom alu hat rotor with the correct hat offset which negate the need for the spacer.

John, great video. Is it necessary that you remove the entire assembly to do this swap? Thanks in advance.

My bad. Just watched the video again and realized the 928 spindle needs to be machined.

Hi John, I have a 928 s from 1980, automatic, and I wonder if you can help me with the gearbox

i'm not an Automatic guy but If you are in my area (NYC) I can send you to someplace that is good with Automatics... Consider the 928 Forum on Rennlist.com. Amazing collection of experts can be found there.

Did you run the Cayenne brake caliper too?

No....928 GTS with a 1/4 inch spacer.
@zanick2
@zanick2 3 года назад
@@johnsgarage3771 should use a centering ring between the hub and the rotor around the bearing cap area. (not behind the rotor) since the GTS is 320mm , so how did you get the calipers to work . did you add 5mm washers on the radial mounts for the stock GTS calpiers?

Just keep your lovely 928 as original as possible and buy a new and faster sports car, if you want something with higher performance. This is an insane waste of time and money - in my opinion.
