I miss it too, but what's gone is gone . It hurts sometimes to realize that not everyone had it as good as my family did . The rise of the White Middle Class in the 50's and 60's had me thinking that things would keep getting better . It hurts to know my children won't have it as good as I did . I remember going to strkelines in Detroit with my father as an elementary student . I remember eating powdered eggs as part of the food the Union provided members to help us through the strike . Dad did some side labor pouring sidewalks to keep us from being evicted . @@MelissaR784
We are so blessed to have had our own Mark Twain or Will Rogers in our lifetime. Few artists could capture the magic of the every-day moment like Garrison Keillor.
@@jenmorricone4014 Interesting so I went to Wikipedia and looked at what is stated about that. He considers himself to be high-functioning autistic. I can get that; many of us who've lived through the time as he has have come upon some personal characteristics that weren't noticed when we were young that would fit current day diagnoses of some kind. We might have gotten some strange glances but soldiered through to find where we were productive citizens. He lives and performs from his "small world" in a flux with the larger one.
Listening in the dark to that wonderful voice, telling stories whose destination you cannot predict. So you have to pay attention and visualize the characters and the events. I grew up on radio, and have been blessed with the discovery of Garrison Keillor’s magic. This Ode to New York is outstanding. It sines in the dark. Thank you, mille fois.

This is the first time in ages, where I enjoyed listening to the entire presentation, without losing interest and concentration. It’s the wonderful stories- as he said- that are so memorable. He will be greatly missed one day and let’s hope he does live to 105, as he thinks he will. ❤
Saw Mr Keillor live in Ocean Grove NJ years ago….he had the audience in the palm of his hand. Signed programs after the show, he is as gracious as you could be.
At KCMO's Starlight Theater, I learned how trains jump into stories when Prairie Home Companion is recorded on the road. I also learned not to sing along through the whole intermission -- it's still the bathroom break!
Being from Iowa, I would like to take this time to say that what Garrison said about Iowa is absolutely spot on. We have been on a downward spiral for some years now and I don't see an end to it. Sorry.

Garrison's storytelling is just so compelling that I don't even pay attention to appearances. I think he looks alright though, esp. considering he had a stroke and his age.
The South was and still are the Democrats. I still enjoyed/enjoy A Prairie Home Companion even if Garrison's politics and mine are in disagreement. It was proven that he was irreplaceable as the host. Do not misunderstand me, the Republicans are no better. All politicians are the same just some are more transparent with their hatred for the United States.
In the 80s I was a huge fan of PHC. I would try to listen, but my wife would ask endless questions, my young girls would talk unendlessly. I got get frustratied with all the talking 😢 I would sneak out to my VW Rabbit. I would lock the doors and turned the radio on to 😢PHC. That would last until the girls came out t knock on the window them thus wrecking my PHC lisening!
