I don't agree at all. He was just standing next to Shatner-the camera angle from behind him made him look closer. Shatner is an old ass h_le. I would have told him off and moved to stand someplace else if I were that guy. Who cares about stupid Star Trek and Star Wars! I would not be there in the first place.
The problem about celebrities is that fans think they own them. No privacy, no boundaries sometimes as well. I know it's the price they pay, but I understand that the more famous you are, the more likely that's gonna be 24/7. It must be psychologically exhausting after doing that for years in a row.
Bill had every right to ask that guy to back off, he was about to speak on stage and the guy was just being rude. I like to know where was the security? They're lucky the guy wasn't dangerous.
Oh for God's sake. How did you interpret that man as being rude? He was merely _speaking to him_ and if you somehow managed to hear a single word he said, please - by all means, enlighten the rest of us. Sure, he was valid to ask he stop recording him, but that's the only offensive thing I see. And as for security, well - let's be honest here, shall we? - while Shatner's an icon of pop culture that's managed to maintain relevance by doing commericals and hosting television shows, it could be argued he hasn't been a big enough star to _warrant_ security for years. At least when a large part of his work today is from geek conventions that can't afford security or even need it.
@@giggles7179 Bill was about to be presented, when the guy rudely started talking to him. Bill was paying attention to his cue to come on stage, before being interrupted.
Yup. The camera idiot would have done the same thing if some fool was distracting him just as he’s about to talk in front of a small crowd. People don’t understand personal space or general politeness or much of anything else nowadays though, so the camera guy is acting normal enough for 2024.
He looks great for his age,saw a video of Clint Eastwood the other day, he's 9 months older, and looking very frail .agreed Shatner looks like he's in his 60s.
Tbh I thought the fan was a family member or loved one until Shatner confronted them. Practically holding his hand, they were so close. I dont blame him. Jesus.
Shatner did what anyone would have done..... He is just about to go on stage and a fan gets WAY too close and wants to make a video. Everyone knows that 99% of the videos go on YT to gain clicks and likes....so its become a real problem for these actors. 93 and going strong, more power to Shatner !
Everyone else was using their phone to video and I don't think he was invading his space.. The angle of the person behind him that took the video made it look close. Shatner was out right rude.
Man Mr Shatner looks great for his age. If nothing unexpected happens he looks like he could go another 15 20 years if not more. Wouldn't that be a treat for the fans. God bless him.
He looks unnaturally healthy for someone his age. Look at Tom Baker from Doctor Who. He's the same age as William Shatner but looks like a 90 year old man.
@@hansbambach4854 I was being sarcastic but tone is so often lost in comments. I was reminded of actually seeing TV crews at times, with old fashioned large shoulder cameras, once they had those they could barge through any crowd. The smartphone rudeness comes to some extent from us all having been reared on TV where journalists could just stalk prey.
The fan was star-struck and temporarily forgot about boundaries and personal space. But I believe him to be a true fan because in the end he DID follow the captain's orders.
I don't think the fan forgot about boundaries. I think he leaned in to say something to Shatner because it was loud and Shatner wouldn't have heard him otherwise. I think we have all done this in our lives and i'm perplexed that I have to explain basic human interactions that we all engage in numerous times throughout our lives to people like you. By the way, Shatner was a dick. He's pissed off that someone has a cell phone camera recording when there are cameras all over the place to record an event that Shatner is at specifically to get exposure. Hypocrite!
@@user-bx3hz6wl5m I'm perplexed that basic human needs have to be explained to people like you, such as the basic need for personal space. It's true, we all have done this at some point in our lives...and hopefully at least SOME of us learn from it. Shatner at an event to get exposure? Heaven forbid!! Uh, he's a celebrity. That's their life.
Shatner still has the emotion, the look, and the stones to play in another Star Trek. Amazing🤩!! Long way from his 'Twilight Zone' episode 'Terror.....'🤔. Life is a Mystery?!
As a shy introvert, I would never dream of getting up in anyone's personal space! And I wouldn't go anywhere near a star. Everyone's a paparazzi now with those damn phones! Bill IS looking good for 93. Maybe he'll make it to 103?
The fan actually had the nerve to ask for a picture with Shatner after facing his cameras bright flashlight at the side of Wlliams head for 30 seconds, which was likely 30 seconds of video he waa taking without even asking.
"would you be quiet please, and turn it off, turn that off. And back up please." The guy was recording a video of himself with Shatner. That's why the light on the phone is facing them and he's holding it up like that.
A friend of mine met Mr. Shatner. At first he said Shatner was standoffish. Didn't want to talk. But my friend asked him about some of his work BESIDES Star Trek and T.J. Hooker. Said Mr. Shatner’s face lit right up and after a few minutes of ego stroking he was ready to talk Trek. Lol. Just gotta know how to approach people.
I don't have a problem with Wil Shatner complaining to a crowding and imposing fan. He's one of the most recognized and adored actors in the world and that means he's dealt with a lot of rude, pushy fans at times. He deserves his space in comfort, free from needy admirers and obnoxious touchy feely creepy "fans" that've taken it a little too far.
the guy encroaching on him didn't really understand that he was working, trying to pick up on what the guy introducing was him was saying , so he could synthesize material to deliver to the crowd
I heard, "would you move back please..." Then he did, I think a favor to the venue by telling him to not video... "turn THAT off" guessing on that part.
Just because you are a fan doesn’t make you a friend. Separating reality from fantasy, is not something a lot of fans can understand. I never meant Bill but I like he’s dedication. You don’t get to the top being stupid.
Amazing how William Shatner looks and appesrs to still have quite a bit energy and spunk still left in him! At 93, this man is still, truly, an incredible talent and person and still has energy and drive to still do anything he wishes to do/try! Still a hero, an idol and still loved, by all of his fans, of ANY of his TV shows ( really like Shatner’s portrayal of the Character of Denny Crane on “Boston Legal”) at 93! I N C R E D I B L E! He’s “THE SHAT”, man! 👍😁😎🖖❤️
I do presentations and it irks me when someone comes to distract my mental preparation before I go on stage, let alone shining a camera light, like he did on William. What an inconsiderate guy. Where was security btw? Good thing William was firm but polite. He certainly didn’t say back off.
Personal feelings if a celebrity is about to go on stage leave them alone, there at work technical but may also be waiting for a special cue to get on stage. There is a time limit and he can be fine for going over or not being in the right place at the right time
Lots of celebrities and athletes have to deal with rude overzealous people who violate their personal space and shove a smartphone in their faces. I don’t blame anyone for not tolerating this. Celebrities and athletes are still human.
He was own Bill Maher’s Show recently . Without even trying and no ego at all , he owned it . I think the key is ,besides staying active , he loves to read and is always seeking more knowledge .
Event security was laxed. The man is 93 years old and surrounded by fans trying to get snaps. He really didn't react to the throng (probably too strong a word) until the fan imposed even more with a specific and imposing request (as he's about to walk on stage).
He's being introduced (slowly), and he is just about to take the stage before a small, intimate live audience. This guy is right up on him, shining the camera light right in his face, and keeps leaning in saying things to him, and he's trying to listen to his intro and wait for his cue. Then, the guy seems to ask Shatner for a selfie or something to that effect, and Shatner tells him, "No. Will you please be quiet, and turn that off. Turn it off. And move back. Thank you." This was Shatner telling the guy he's disrupting the event, to get out of his personal space, and that they aren't going to be "buddies". This fellow looks pretty old, too, and has likely been a fan since way back when, and they get this illusion that he'll be more friendly with an older contemporary of his, rather than some young person. That's simply not true. You're the same as the rest, buddy. If anything, he should know better. I'm older myself, and I'd never get in some older celebrity's face and be like, "Hey, we go way back..." It's silly. I'll bet you it even hurt the guy's feelings, LOL. Shatner would have just ignored him, like the lady on the other side, also filming him (and, obviously, the person who filmed this interaction.) But the guy was trying to engage him and it was distracting.
Let's see, there's a man really close taking a selfie video or picture as the MC is introducing you...and then, POW, get out of my space and turn that thing off, and, oh, GET BACK JACK. His character did the same thing in Star Trek: Generations if you remember. I would do the same thing.
93 years old,,,,,and still going out to events etc. Maybe in his adventures through the galaxy he was dusted with an anti -aging agent. Damb,, The casting agents back in the day really seemed to get it right.
Many actors are harassed constantly and approached when they want to just eat a meal or walk with their families. I can’t blame them for getting angry.
I would never approach a celebrity, cause I like my space too. The most I would do is say or wave hi. Unless they initiated I would leave them alone. And I always said if it was someone I was big fan of, I would just say “I appreciate all your creative work.” Unless they were down to kick it with me. I would get tired of dealing with clingy fans all the time too.
His mental sharpness and intact personality for a 90 something yr old is unreal. Some of his former co stars/actors on Star Trek do say they thought he could be a bit overbearing but so do many elite leaders athletes etc. I mean he WAS that show. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad dude overall it’s just a leader who takes care of business. Nice to see a phone intruder told basically to back the hell off but in a still measured way.
After this the event producer showed Shatner's lawyer the "half off apperance fee" clause in the contract that specified that Shatner should be courteous to all event goers. The lawyer, correctly, pointed out that Shatner said "please" and "thank you."
