Loved this! Only question left unanswered was how does working with Chad & Val with the coach hat on maintain its boundaries when the player/mate relationship is already so well established. Like...can you really be a director with your mates without risking that relationship when hard truths are required?

It's interesting that Jimmy can't make sense of what seemed like a pretty easy fitness and conditioning setup at the Sharks. I've spoken to a number of former players who've essentially said the same thing, "I think about all of the effort we put in during pre-season and between games and whilst I realize it got me incredibly fit looking back I wonder how much of that was really necessary? You've got coaches killing guys to squeeze an extra 0.1% of stamina out of the tank. But there's a cost to that. Players only have so many miles on the clock - what's the point of wasting most of them on the training paddock where there's nothing at stake? Because it's pre-season training which causes players to retire - rarely the game. Guys just don't want to put themselves through that again. I reckon I could have been just as well conditioned by training smarter instead of sprinting up a damned hill at the beach twenty times or running stupid drills which wear the body out just as much as playing".
