This is by far the best video I’ve seen on propagation of a ZZ plant. Very thorough and easy to understand. I was given a leggy ZZ plant in a giant pot a year ago and haven’t been sure what to do with it until now. Thank you.
One of the best and detailed video on zz plant propagation found online with the comparison. Loved it, as I am going follow this video for my propagation. Thank you so much!
Хорошо,что есть перевод. Спасибо Вам огромное очень полезное видео. И всё так аккуратно и чистенько. С меня подписка и👍. Привет из солнечного Дагестана🙋
Right….I think I have enough knowledge to go ahead and take cutting from my ZZplant, I want to master propagating, so fab…& the satisfaction!! This video helped a lot, very very good great job! 👏 x
Very intresting & useful information, about zz plant thank you for one,but your subtitles font size is too small please i ncrease your font size for next your video. Namaste from India.
I learned so much from your video! I especially liked that you demonstrated everything you did with out talking. some videos are like bla bla bla! Thank you so much!!
I propagated mine into soil directly; you can either root it in water or soil, and what I like about the water is, it allows you to keep an eye on the development and growth, however , the soil produces stronger roots for transplanting. Great video!
I think so too. I propagate my snake plants in water but that one is about it. I'm most nervous about water to soil roots. Like after all that time of babying the thing, I just want to know it's ready and strong for the next season of soil, you know? I've been looking and I cannot find the answer. I actually have a whole rhizome already (when I separated mine when I got it, I had one rhizome with some bigger growth, and one that was much smaller and a "bald" one) but its shoot died in the store from over watering. So I plopped that bad boy (rhizome, no leaves) in soil and I'm hoping it'll shoot a leaf 🙏
You said water was best but it looks like the cocopeat was better because you got a rhizome with it. I save my plastic cups and lids from when I purchase bubble tea to propagate and this is the perfect way to prop and ship plants to family. Thanks for this patient video. My goodness 75 days!
For everyone upset that their cuttings rotted, mushy, died etc. there’s little details you have to factor. Be mindful not to use tap water that has the salt water-softening filter (mainly in U.S.) use regular wate, bottled or rainwater is best. Also helps to let fresh cuttings dry about 1-2days before planting or placing into water…this helps prevent the “open wound” from softening too much into mush. He created this great video to show the rooting differences in varying types of medium.
I PUT SOME STEM CUTTINGS IN WATER AND ABOUT 10 DAYS THEY ROTED. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO CHANGE THE WATER EVERY THREE DAYS SO NOW I HAVE ALOT OF ZZ PLANTS🙂🙂🙂
Loved this video, so simple and to the point. Can I grow a Zz plant from a piece of rhizome alone? If so which medium should I use; water, peat or perlite?
Hello, I've started using LECA to grow pothos. Is it necessary to fill the entire pot with water? Isn't it important to make sure the roots are dipped in water?
Just add water at least 2-3inches from the bottom of the pot. LECA has the ability to soak up the water from the bottom that the plant can easily absorb. Your plants can now choose for themselves how much water they want. Since your plants aren't sitting in water all the time, like often the case with soil, they can sip on the water that has been soaked into the clay balls. If your plants are really thirsty, they will start to grow towards the water that's at the bottom of the pot and drink directly from that.
Can a plant survive in water without root rot? I am facing a problem when I transfer the plant from the water to the soil weaken and die But when I keep it in water it keeps growing!!! ? What is the explanation for this strange situation!.?
I thought the perlite was better, there were roots and rhizomes whereas the water only produced roots. I am currently rescuing my huge Zz Raven from root rot, had to cut all the roots and rhizomes off. Currently propagating in water, have roots no rhizomes as yet. Should I plant it up or wait for rhizomes?
yes I agree with you but perlite is my second choice. I choose water because it is the easiest way and the cuttings produce a small multiple rhizomes. I think you better wait for rhizomes to appear then repot it in soil.
I think it's very interesting to watch a ZZ start from scratch and gradually grow into a full-fledged plant. It's probably the best pastime to follow a plant's progress.
@@Heba_allam ah I see, that is Mosquito Bits effective to prevent any flying insects especially for indoor plants. The blue powder is 20-20-20 NPK fertilizer. Look for the links on video’s description for all the products that I used.
Thank you so much. The root ball on my ZZ plant fell off from the plant. I guess too much water. Can I also put it in lecca or the clay balls? Thank you.
Thank you for the video. I am unsure about what to do with the plants once they 'shoot'. I now have a dozen new single-stem Zanzibar plants in single plastic cups, about 15cm high. When should I repot these? Thank you.
@@thegreenearth I live in Sydney, Australia, and we are about to go into spring. Interestingly, over the past few weeks, I have had about twenty of my leaf propagations send out new shoots. This is the first time that I have tried to propagate plants and it is quite exciting to see all these new little Zanzibar plants coming to life. Thank you for your help through your videos. Cheers, Peter
This video is so relaxing , I recently got a variegated zz and rlly wanna try this , is there any benefit to leave stem on with a leaf apposed to lots of people just using the leaf with no stem ? Do you have any updates on these perhaps ^^ ?
I tried in rainy season the stems rotted. But in warm season they are fine. I show them morning sunlight/ indirect sunlight passing through window to keep them safe from rotting
My plants have died even changing them every 3 days I'm an expert on growing plants on ground but when it comes to cloning water rooting techniques are quite different and sometimes difficult what should I do?
Thank you for the informative video. I noticed all cuttings successfully rooting yet i'm more curious if all these cuttings could turn into a leafy plant or like the single leaf rubber plant experiment ie: remain as a single leaf with roots. Thanks. :-)
ZZ plants grow from rhizomes or tubers unlike Ficus trees. So as you see in the video, the leaves grow a new rhizome and from this comes a new plant. The original leaf used in propagation will usually die off.
