You are so fortunate to have all those routers James, because you'll never have to worry about losing a corkscrew ever again! With the ways you are discovering to resolve each problem you face, you'll soon be a fully qualified Jamesologist! 😎
Routers are a great tool to have. I use mine a lot. Just as an idea you could use it to cut the holes for your mushroom vents ie fit the panel to the ceiling and drill a hole in the middle of where the vent is and use a router bit with a bearing guide on the end and it will follow the tube you fitted in the vent giving you an exact round hole in exactly the right place.
That’s a cool idea but would it have the required depth of cut. I’d need it to be around 100mm. You mean sit on the roof and route out from there yeah?
The Narrowboat that James built haha yeh they are built so you can step through each size hole until to get to the one you want. Very useful bit of kit and easy to use although also very easy to plough in and over drill the hole size when they are sharp.
All those cookies and sweets that you got would be gone by now if I was there! LOL! I hope you've saved a few! Those Step-Drills (I don't know if there's a different name for them on your side of the pond) come in VERY handy. I find it best if I use a marker to mark the size I want, then stop a step before to make sure I don't overshoot and drill too big. As you said, they are meant for metal (they're great on aluminum, but you don't seem to have much of that), but also plastics. They aren't very good with wood, but you might be able to use them on solid timber - but they'll split plywood pretty badly. One of these days you gotta get that fire going, and plug that roof hole! LOL
Oh yes Noah. Well the “facts” as I recall them mean that his ark wouldn’t sail straight into a huge metal workshop if the waters did rise!! He would simply drift out into the sea !!
James, may Suggest that you tell the viewers what your next task tomorrow is and ask for suggestions on the best way or how to do it so it easier for you and you don’t make a fool of yourself. Regards Phil
@@divetechltd2731 because it’s taken me 50 years as a carpenter and I’m still learning something every day , I served a four year apprenticeship as a bench joiner but there’s so many different aspects of being a carpenter. Cabinet makers coffin makers roofers shuttering floor layers first fixers second fixers wood machinist boat builders shipwrights and many more. If I don’t know or not sure I ask I’m still learning and what are you a pen pusher that knows it all. I was saving James any embarrassment thank you
@@philhonour450 That makes no sense, James has never claimed to be a carpenter, he is just a guy giving it the best he can do with the knowledge he has, nobody else thinks he is "embarrassing" himself, pen pusher know al, seems you are the know all l?? another rude comment, successful business owner actually but I don't need to tell everybody, just appreciate the man for Gods sake, he is doing great and gives enjoyment to his thousands of subscribers every day,
Chill pal. You’re right we’re all learning and I do defiantly ask you guys for things I am stuck with and Phil and many others have sorted me out loads of times. Luckily I’m also happy to be a fool sometimes because that’s reality. We are all fools at times and most don’t have the experience of 3000 great people like I have. So thanks guys - and Phil you’ll be happy to know that the plastic sheet and gaffer tape is working a treat!! Cheers
It kept going and going and going and then I watching people route out bunnies and all stuff. It useful or relevant whatsoever. Massive waste of time but great nonetheless
Those tapered reamers/step drills will go through many different materials. Wood, plastic, metal. They are normally marked with the hole diameter so you know which indent to stop at. Really useful for plumbing, electrics etc. or anywhere you need a larger than average round hole.
Hi James bathroom coming along well ,to much info about the Scottish liquid but enjoy and regarding your watertank, my cider tank would be bigger than that. Ha Ha Stay safe my friend (PJ)
Looking great James, restores faith in humanity seeing the kind gifts people have been sending, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning watching you open those packages !!
There certainly are lots of great people in the world - and given the world we live in at the moment, it’s amazing that so many are thinking of others. We’ve got 3000 of the best right here !!
James, I'm a glassblower and glass artist so if you are looking for a custom made glass tile for the splash back in the galley let me know and I'll sort it out for you 🤗
Wow thanks Pauline but there sadly isn’t much of a splash back the galley. I can’t even see the area for rubbish in the way. Will think about and let you know. Thanks though - thats a great job !!!
Lol I wish it was my full time job! It's my passion, love all things glass. Anyway, it's absolutely slashing it down here in Brum so stay safe and warm!
I like your vlog about your narrow boat, I've been watching since you started. Wish I was there to lend a hand, would love to have a chance to learn more skills. Oh the rain, yes we are having rain for the next few days here in the south USA
Evening James. You open the generous gifts viewers are sending is as interesting as you doing building work lol 😂 The rain on your narrowboat roof is the same as me sleeping in my lorry hehe 😂 I'm in County Cork watching this in my cad. Keep safe cheers for some light entertainment before bed. 👍🏻 Stevie 😎
For the bathroom tiles you're not going to use a child that's on the fireplace that your parents gave you so can match?? And Hello Las Vegas Nevada USA
I do the navy shower in my campervan, it saves such a load of water. I actually fill the kettle from it to draw the hot water through 1st, saves even more water. You have very generous viewers James. Makes up for that one twat viewer. Really enjoying the build series still.
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Does that depend on where your hot water is coming from. If from an instantaneous heater then its fresh water. I wouldn't want to drink water from a hot water storage tank.
Hi Adam Thanks. It’s 2.5mm2 cable for the leds - other bits like gulper and pumps will need 6mm. Most 12v cables down the boat will be 2.5 though. I’m doing a full vid on it this week
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Hi James, thanks a lot for your reply, really loving following your fit out, and its an amazing resource. Very generous of you to share your work. all the best with the rest of your build and looking forward to the mentioned vid. Take care, Adam
You may already have this in mind but you would normally fix the cubicle uprights to an already waterproof (tiled or sheeted) surface. Also try to make any walls that you intend to cover in those mosaic tiles of dimensions that suit the breaks in the mosaic sheet, you don't want to be trying to cut the individual mini-tiles or leave a mini-tile-wide grout space. I'm thinking particularly of the cubicle upright that is fixed to the post. I would do a small return wall from the post, of a size to clear your window and to suit the tiles.
@@michaelburns6197 yes the post will have tiles and the big wall will have pvc sheet. I’m planning on tiling everything and pvc’ if everything - then siliconing the heck out of it all - then putting the enclosure and taps in etc. Is that the right method Michael ?
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Yes. I think you said you're putting your taps on the recessed wall which you can still get to the rear of for plumbing. Sorry to have interrupted your work, you're obviously on the right track, it's just you said when you were doing the fireplace that you hadn't done any tiling before and I didn't want you to end up with a leaky shower cubicle, it can make a real mess.
Hi James, the step drills can be used on wood and plastic as well as steel, I couldn't find one at 58mm but reckoned you will be needing to drill holes of various sizes during this project and they looked a bit safer in operation to that spinning contraption 😊. Anyway, hopefully you will find a use for them other than the sex toy idea expresses elsewhere in the comments 🤣
Will that’s very kind of you - I watched some vids today on step drills too and they’re great. Loads of uses so thank you so very much. The “arm breaker 2000” has been discarded for good !!
Cor! Those things look bloody sharp. Always fun to get lost in RU-vid tutorials when you get a new tool, especially on a rainy day. It been hacking it down and gales over this way too. Pretty sure I'm gonna have a tree come through the roof by the end of the night. Stay safe.
Afternoon James, Can’t wait to see you have a good fire in the new stove, they say the stove you should have the first burn outside, because of all the fumes can be toxic.
You’re more than welcome to pop over and heave it outside and then wait for it to cool and then heave it back in!!! It’s small fires first and slowly build up. Fumes aren’t really toxic if it’s working properly because it’s vented correctly. You’ll know for sure if the last vlog I ever do is the lighting of the first fire !!!!
