She is absolutely awesome and inspiring! While watching her run, I spontaneously broke into chorus of Jan & Dean and Beach Boys song Little old lady from Pasadena Go granny go granny go She inspired me to sing! I’m a terrible singer and runner Thank you Colleen Milliman US record holder! And not far from world record pace! Inspirational classy lady!
At 76 can't imagine living to 96 much less breaking World Records ! Such high standards you set for the elderly and all seniors! Take Care and take a bow.
@@fredator76 That's the way Americans think ! It's a hard pill to swallow anything less for Americans ! Just think about how things really were when WW2 HIT. And how our country has always come thru! As times change I Turley believe in America ! I was part of the Vietnam crap and did not like it ! But hear I am 76 and still alive and full of Freedom!Even with the kids being raised in a bad way I believe in our country and by God you better !
That is absolutely amazing, congratulations to her! They need to interview this woman as I need to know how she is so fit at that kind of age. Incredible.
Probably was not a big partier growing up and did exercise regularly. My mom and grandmother are both from hardy stock. They grew up on a farm and had organic meat/vegetables growing up. Unfortunately, the penalty for growing old is you get to watch all your friends and family die.
One of the truly nice things about this sport is the way they welcome and celebrate all ages and abilities. I’ve seen world class athletes stop their warmups and step away from interviews to cheer for these “super seniors”.
Run, jog, and walk is the perfect combo for people her age to stay strong, healthy and competitive. Now she knows she got more in the tank if pursuing another record. She's an inspiration to all those coach potatoes young legs who say they don't have the energy for anything!
I'm pushing 40, and the difference in my running from high school/college is real. As amazing as youthful records and times are, it's incredible to see what can be done with an older and more challenging body.
more determination is what it takes, but I can still churn out a sub 7 mile if I keep at it, and thats running maybe a few times a week at work for about 2/3s of a mile or 5 miles a week, not wise but when I am inspired and the air is good for it there is a good bit adreanalin and motivation can do, but 20 years ago at my best and running 5 times a week, and with a friend that did collage track and cross for butler on the jv team, I could do a lower 39's 10k
When I was 15, during sports day at school I had to run the 800m. I walked the last 300m then collapsed on the ground and couldn't move for like 2 hours.
AWESOME!! I know her family is SO proud! My grandfather is 96. I don't know that he could run a race like this amazing lady but he still cuts his own grass, works in his garden and just helped my dad restore my great grandfather's old truck. That generation was/ is tough as leather!
Don’t v often comment but that was truly inspiring. I’m only 58 so can chill for a bit but my 94 year old mother in law is getting a pair of Reebok’s for her birthday. The smile on her face says it all.
I ran marathons up until I was 65, but then a bad back followed by two surgeries have made it difficult even to walk any distance. This woman is absolutely amazing!
I can't believe the stands aren't packed. This is so much more impressive than a 20 year old in any race. Colleen was the star in this race. I'd love to follow in her footsteps. And the pacemakers....what an awesome name!
@@karma4553 What this person is saying is that when Colleen was 90, she still had years left in her, as most people at 90 years of age are thought of as 'half-dead' and at the very end. As Colleen is 96, which is 6 years from her 90th birthday, Colleen still had many years left and was anything but 'half-dead.' This poster is absolutely correct. At 90 years of age, 6 years ago, Colleen still had many years left in her. The only one here whose reading comprehension is in doubt, is YOU.
This is soo awesome, honestly more inspiring to ME than watching the 3:43 mile run! This is a woman who never gave up, and that is just amazing. I won't ever be able to run a 3:43, that is an amazing feat. But I want to be the lady who's still running at 96.
This women is truly a "Inspiration" I hope I'm still jogging in my 90's. She obviously took good care of herself through out the years!! good for her! Most ppl today in their 70/80's couldn't finish the race bc of health problems. They say we are a obese nation. (sad) but watching her lets us know their still hope for us
I'm nearly 60 and regard myself as reasonably fit and strong for my age, but not especially so. A few weeks ago I did a 5k Parkrun in 30.06. About 500m from the finish I ran out of energy and started walking. An elderly man wearing a prostate cancer survivor t shirt passed me encouraging me to keep going, for which I was duly grateful. When the results went online a few hours later I checked him out, and apparently he is 84!
3 out of 4 of my grandparents are still alive at age 90 but they can barely get off the couch with a walker, to see someone jogging at that age is amazing. She is faster than a few of the teenagers in my high school gym class. You're not going to be fast in you're old age but if you are still mobile, if you can jog a short distance/walk a few miles that is a wonderful thing.
Memaw, handling business, before her afternoon nap. 800m American record. Fantastic. No doubt she can hang with her great great grandkids. Congratulations! Well done
Im lost for words the utmost respect and admiration for these wonder women ...96...years old....it's just fantastic...... Melanie 33 ❤️❤️.All my love to her ..X
I get wanting to keep running at older ages... I myself compete in a young person's sport at an "older" age. But I cannot imagine VOLUNTEERING to run the 800 intentionally at that point. Well done to all.
I knew a guy who used to run a mile at my local track every week. Dude was 86, ten years younger than this, but he was booking it. Your body is temple 🙏🏻
Great effort and big respect to Colleen.. reading comments below it sounds like quite a few people no longer challenge themselves due to ageing. i look forward to seeing what i can do beyond 90+. I am 56 now and still mountain bike / trail run / play a lot of tennis and just got back from a 3500km solo motorbike adventure in Ladakh/India. Maybe sell the couch and trade it in for some running shoes and set some cool personal targets.. Go for it!!!
Amazing result/effort! there was a guy here in UK that wanted to break 4 hours for a 100 mile bike ride, he didn't but the current record for an 89 year old is a few seconds under 5hrs 20sec! The hour record around an indoor track for the 105years and over is 22.547km by Robert Marchand. He did the hour at 106 the next year but then retired!
O.M.G!! This is so much surreal big kudos to her, my grandma has 86 years old and everytime she said me: "I am so much consummate to exert force, walk even slow 3km, I am so old almost dying"... I am gonna show her this video to motivate her!! There are so much young people going to the wrong side drinking above the limit, consuming e-cigs, hookah and with a sedentary life
