My grandfather born in 1903 in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, would come in after a long morning of plowing with his mule team and take cold coffee from on top of the wood stove and the left over biscuits from breakfast, cut the biscuits in two, put a couple of teaspoons of sugar on them and then pour that strong cold coffee over the biscuits and have an instant energy snack. 😊 No modern snacks or fast food, not even on the horizon.

It's the last of an era but most of us will never understand or get back to. He's just a beautiful human being and inside and out. Ralph 4 President 🇺🇸

Any repercussions from smoking or other ill health would weaken the next generation. There is nothing more peaceful than a beautiful porch and birds chirping. Peaceful watching this and listening to them talk. Makes me think of when growing up at my grandma's house and when they had company they would sit outside and talk for hours. The stories they would talk about was so interesting even when I was young. Ralph is a true gem and would be awesome to talk to and listen to the stories. God Bless.

Last May, we visited the area for a college softball tournament. We ate at this restaurant rather than going the national chain route and had some awesome burgers ,fries and milkshakes. It looked so familiar and finally, when I heard the clerk call out an order number I realized it was the same location. The owner is a lovely lady and made your video that much better with her kind interaction with Ralph.

Thanks for the comment and watching the video. It was a great honor for me to make almost 40 videos with Ralph Robertson that I filmed over a two year period. Since his passing in December they have been a surge in his video views here on RU-vid. The series was first posted a few years back on Facebook but at that time the RU-vid Channel only had about 2k subscribers. Now that I’m at over 100k subs “The Greasy Hollow Memories” videos have found a whole new audience.. Come along with me to Greasy Hollow, Tennessee and meet a real Appalachian storyteller that became a living legend.
