1998 Lexus ES300 Radio/HVAC backlighting repair.
In this video, I demonstrate how to remove the radio/climate control unit, disassemble it, and replace any broken backlighting components.

i have a question, what causes lettering on the radio display to disappear? is it a LCD black lighting issue or a different issue?

i have a stock head unit in my 97 and it doesn’t look like that which is weird. i have buttons instead of dials for the sound settings

Are those GS 2006 wheels? What are the measurements?

Yes they are. I don't remember the width, but they are 17" in diameter. No spacers needed, bolt right on.

Thank you. My radio lights are burnt out. For the knobs, did you just pull really hard to get them out?

I can't find that LCD part number anywhere. Do you have a website for it? CWM4319?

I'm afraid Pioneer and other sellers stopped selling these. I found out shortly after uploading my video :( If I was you, I would look into 3rd party radio repair shops that you could mail your radio to and have them fix everything for a reasonable fee.

circa 2006 Lexus GS300 factory wheels 17x7.5" ET45. Search for 4261130A40 or 4261130A41 and they'll come up. I'm actually in the process of listing mine for sale.

I got a 2001 lexus es300 when turn off car 15 minute radio setting all erase/forget the same with cd player. Any ideas why it is doing that.

It seems Pioneer has discontinued this part in the 4 months since you uploaded this video, which really sucks. Any idea on another supplier?

Yeah it sucks! I can't believe they discontinued the LCD display right as I finally put together this video. It looks like Pioneer is still making the Keyboard Unit, but not the LCD. I reached out to PacParts Inc, one of their official distributors, to see if there is a substitute that can be used. I'll keep you posted.

So the keyboard is the light board that illuminates the preset buttons, right? Guess I was reading it wrong, which is good news because that's what I need. The LCD screen is still functioning.

Exactly. The unit I replace in this video is the "Keyboard Unit w/ Light". Check pacparts.com for CWM4320, it says it can be shipped within 8-10 days.

So is this what is needed when my LCD screen is all black? I cant see any writing, night or day

Sort of. The procedure is the same, but you need a different part for the LCD display. LCD with Backlighting: CWM4319. Last I checked, Pioneer discontinued the LCD panel, so I would recommend looking around on eBay for repaired radios or a repair shop that can fix your current radio. They may still have some LCD panels from another supplier.

Unless you have a junk yard you can find it from, the cost and time probably isn't worth it unless you must have factory look for some reason. New stereo might be cheaper and would bring you additional benefits like bluetooth/aux/android auto or apple car play/ hd radio, etc. This is what I'm doing though there are additional challenges to work around with the factory amp in the car and some ground loop/engine whine issues.
