I would recommend cleaning the reservoir before putting it on the new MC, and change the old dirty gloves to avoid contaminating the new one. Glad to see you bench bled it.

Thanks a ton!. I have a V6 2001 Accord coupe and everything is the same except for the two lines going into the side of the master cylinder are 12mm like the back two 12mm bolts. You will most definitely need a flared open 12mm wrench before you get started and maybe a few extensions of different lengths for the back bolts on the booster. I wish I had a ratcheting 12mm wrench for the back driverside side bolt if you have one , it'll save some time. There is very little room for a wrench or socket wrench to fit. I had to use a regular flared wrench and had to keep repositioning the wrench only getting a 16th or an 8th of a turn each time flipping the wrench to get a better angle. as luck would have it . the bolt was sticking just enough every turn to not be able to use my fingers and my good ratcheting wrench disappeared lol.That bolt is the trickiest smallest space you'll have to fit your hand in on this job but its not too bad. Just don't drop the bolt or washer. I bought a magnet bowl just for that part after watching this video. Also I didn't have a syringe but a turkey baster with a makeshift tube on the end will work. It just takes like 30 or 40 times to get all the fluid lol. Oh one more thing. My bench bleed fittings were a little different. They looked like little syringe tips but you just stab those in the small holes nice and snug. Pretty self explanatory. Hope this helps anyone like me today! Keep rockin \m/_ and thanks again for this video.

I didn't bench bleed mine. Filled it up pumped a few times cracked lines and bingo.
@lollmao9199
@lollmao9199 6 лет назад
Jess Roberts that work but you want to bench bleed it to avoid draging the air tru the brake booster and brake lines basically the whole brake system , you should bench bleed / open the lines once install and bleed at the brake calipers thats a proper way to know no air is trapped

What line is for the rear on the master cylinder?front or rear line?
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 3 года назад
I dont know. You would have to locate the rear lines and follow them

Probably seems like a dumb question, but how do you remove the black metal bar from the suspension tower? I only see 2 nuts on one side, but nothing on the other side and I want it out of my way to replace my brake booster.

@@themechanic6117 turns out you have to remove the windshield wiper cowl to get to the nuts on the other side. Seems like a dumb design.

There's no access panel? Sorry it's been a while since I worked on this car
@koreymayo8884
@koreymayo8884 2 года назад
@@themechanic6117 I wish they would've put the nuts on the bottom, but unfortunately they put them on top, so the windshield cowl has to be removed as far as I know unless there is an access panel I didn't notice maybe. I ended up just taking it to a mechanic because I didn't feel like contorting myself up under the dash to do all the bolts around the brake pedal to do the brake booster. Then when I got my car back the brake pedal was low so after doing so research I figured out how to take off the master cylinder and adjust the brake booster pushrod pin, so that was fun! Now my brake pedal is good and my car no longer makes a strange high pitched vacuum noise from a bad booster.

Do you need to bleed all 4 tires after the master cylinder.?Good video
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 4 года назад
Whenever i change a master the first thing i do is bleed at the master, if it feels funny still then ill bleed the front brakes, then the rear. Most times bleeding at the master is good enough

Just did a front pad and rotor replacement on my buddy's 01 Accord and neglected to tell him to pump the brake gently to re-seat the pistons. He goes to move it off the work space and the pedal goes straight to the floor with zero braking action, and repeated pumps do nothing. Must've blown the MC's interal seals, I'm guessing. Looks like my short job is turning into more.
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 6 лет назад
That's crazy! Never had that happen to me . No brake fluid is leaking from anywhere?
@ZakTheRipper18
@ZakTheRipper18 6 лет назад
Nope, no fluid leaking. I remembered to pop the reservoir cap off prior to pressing the caliper pistons in with a clamp, too. His pedal just goes to the floor, but it does return on release. And with the engine off you can pump it up to become stiff. I'm stumped, and my only assumption is the MC crapped out somehow.
@ZakTheRipper18
@ZakTheRipper18 6 лет назад
Nope! No fluid loss, and the fluid level in the MC reservoir did not appear to rise when depressing the pedal while engine on (which I read can happen when seals fail and fluid is forced up rather than down the brake lines).
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 6 лет назад
That's crazy, I've done so many brake Jobs and never damaged a mc by forcing fluid up it but I have heard that it's possible...
@ZakTheRipper18
@ZakTheRipper18 6 лет назад
Well, any other theory as to what may have happened? I've heard that bottoming the pedal out CAN allagedly blow MC seals because the piston is forced further down the bore than it ever would be during normal operation. But yeah, I'm at a loss.
