Question for you. I replaced my pressure line today. While my girlfriend was turning the wheel, and pumping the brakes. The brand new Ford Motorcraft line exploded. Any ideas why that would have happened? Before it exploded. About a cup of fluid got pushed into my catch jug.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
Did you remove the plastic cap on the end? That could cause it. Or you have some other type of restriction in the system.
@soldierboy425
@soldierboy425 Год назад
@@AutomedicGarage I did remove the cap. I even torqued the fittings to fords torque specs. Today I went to Napa, and bought a line from them. $35 compared to ford at $90. I also bought a large syringe. I injected atf into the hydroboost, and the replacement line after torquing to the pump. Then installed a 3/8 clear line to the return nipple on the hydroboost. Stuck the syringe in the other end of the tube, and pulled the plunger out creating a vacuum in the system to draw the air out. My best guess is the compressed air in the system was too much for the lines fitting.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
@@soldierboy425 air wouldn’t have made it have any greater pressure. If anything the air actually compresses while fluid does not.

I was told by a local shop to drain the system at the return fitting on the pump. Does this matter? Also when you were turning the wheel was the vehicle lifted off the ground? The local shop said if you do it at the return fitting you don’t need to lift it. Also great vid dude 😊
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
Don’t have to lift the vehicle the easiest way to do this is what I showed, removed the line from the hydro boost which allows you to catch the fluid easier while your pouring the new fluid into the pump.

2006 ford f250 6.0 diesel. So my pump is weak until I press on the accelerator then it finally starts kicking in, does that mean I am needing a new pump? My brakes are spungy too. I have been putting power steering fluid in not the ATF so would that maybe have caused that too?
