What an amazing song this is, and what a wonderful amount of class Nena shows in introducing the song's composer, and having him sit in. She's still got the voice, and the moves, and everything that has made us remember _this_ Cold War classic.
I was on a skiing holiday in Austria in 1983 when the original German language single came out and it was being played in all the local clubs/discos...and even then (and not speaking German) I knew it would be a "hit"....and of course some months later, Nena made an English language version and the rest is history. Am so glad she is still performing and singing well... :-)
I've heard Casey Kasem's AT-40 FLASHBACK from the '80's and one week he played the English version and said they would play the German version next week. Another time I heard him play a version that they spliced together in English and German. Pretty cool considering the time it took to do that back then. Today it would be easier with Pro Tools.
I was only 7 or 8 yrs old when this song came out in 83...saw this video and absolutely loved this song as a child..because of the sound and she was so beautiful (and still is..damm they age well) but now as an adult and knowing the true meaning of this song .ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT EVEN MORE
Been in love with the sound of this lady's voice for over 30 years.. She's still got it, I'm glad to say. And, yes, she's still a pretty lady. Miss the old band though.
It's cool when artists perform their respective old "Hits",and get the audience involved. What's funny is,after all those years, the audience generally remembers the lyrics better than the artist does.
I love to see Nena, sing a song that left its mark on my world, in my country, in Chile. She is still a beautiful woman, as I remember her, and she carries a lot of love from me, from that period and from this new and fresh period. Although you may never have known, I love you Nena, you were always on my heart!
Happy 61st Birthday. Gabriele Susanne Kerner 24 March 1960 Hagen, West Germany. When I think of the great singers of the 80's. I always have her in my top 10 list. Danke Nena.
I remember when this song first came out and I heard it on the radio. It was one of those songs that made you stop whatever you were doing to just listen.
Even though I don't understand german much. This song always made me feel sad and emotional. After hearing someone directly translate it to English I finally understood why. Meaning of the story, they did such an amazing job portraying the emotions in this song that not even the language barrier was enough to dull its message
Ich liebe dich, Nena! Native English speaking American here, but had to try the German out of respect and love. Such a great song! Still loving it in 2020. Cannot understand the words very well but I love it so much more than the English version, like many others do.
@@rustym.shackelford5546 good luck 👍 lucky I left California back in 2008 to move to Germany 🇩🇪 now I speak great german. You won’t be able to learn it if you don’t embrace it everyday
@@JohnnyMacaw I'm currently going to Louisiana and I'm thinking of re-enlisting into The US Army full time. Maybe knowing German will help if I'm one day stationed there.
On MTV in the 80’s this was a standout song. Her voice and German accent were so cool, and she looks like she barely aged a day. In recent years I’ve been to Berlin a few times and I can hear this song playing in my memory😀
Man , oh man do I love this video. I am in love with Nena. And I think the reason is because of the love she displays ALL THE TIME. Uwe was in fact an original member, but he has been around for Nena's entire, unbelievably successful career. He has co-written many beautiful pieces, and here he is, traveling half-way around the world for a show with his friend. I am so glad he did. I hadn't rediscovered Nena when this was performed, but if she EVER gets back to America. I WILL BE THERE!!!
@@gp. Yes, of course. Quite the talent. My only point is that all these decades later, its nice to see that he and Nena are still pals. That's nice, no?
So eine lebensfrohe Person, die nicht nur schöne Zeiten durchlebt hatt. Und trotzdem hatt sie ihr gutes Herz und ihre fröhliche Art behalten... Genau so wie ich ❤
Interesting enough she never performed the English version again after the 80s, there are English covers by Kylie Minogue, Goldfinger, Alizee and others but not by Nena herself
Músicas dos anos 80 ainda não foram superadas em pleno 2019 quase 2020, nasci na década certa tinha 4 anos quando gravaram e estou ouvindo aqui em 16/11/2019
So sad I missed this show, Nina right here in NYC. I was friends with the bass player, and he never let me know they were coming! Found out like that day....he did get me many autographs but I still would love to meet her one day!
Thank you Nena and your great band for giving the world such a beautifully perfected pop rock anthem...and congratulations for being Musicians Institutes' 1st success story. Love how you tied in Hey Jude...very classy ! :)
Vielen Dank, dass Sie ein nostalgisch wertvolles Video hochgeladen haben. Als Student habe ich dieses Lied oft in einer Fernsehsendung namens "MTV" gehört.
IM UNIVERSAL, I LISTEN TO LOTS OF DIFFERENT MUSIC... AMAZING SONG. AWESOME VERSION... IM A HUGE ROCK AND ROLL FAN...IM 43 STILL LOVE MY ROCK AND ROLL...ROCK ON MAN!
For all you folks saying you love Nena, that's like saying you love the Rolling Stones when what you mean to say is I love you Mick Jagger. Nena was the name of the original group. The still gorgeous lady singing is (and always was) Gabrielle Kerner.
@@kturkel I've seen her interviewed many times. She didn't like the fact that she was known as Nene and the band was not. She always felt it took away from the band the recognition they deserved. She would answer to the name but made it clear that Nene was the name of the entire band.
Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen thanks for your iconic keyboard rift. I love seeing the OB-6 he is playing from several years ago. I have the new Oberheim OB-X8 and what a beautiful beast it is. I hope Tom Oberheim gave him one. He deserves it. I played the pads and rift with it from 99 Luft Balloons and it sounds just like a classic Oberheim to me. I could not afford one in high school back in the 1980s so I did not have any of the old Oberheims.
