My 99 marquis started skipping a little at idle today. I changed the intake manifold about 1000 miles ago. And the spark plugs. But I like that kit you got at Harbor Freight. Gonna have to pick one up. Thank you for giving me a starting point to diagnose the issue. Car only has 117K on it.

A 1999 Grand Marquis has no OBD code to indicate an fuel injector's electrical connection has failed. Misfire can also come from a fuel injector failure. I have a 1999 Grand Marquis. An injector electrical connector had somewhat slipped out of its socket because the connector release tab had broken off. Not noticing this issue with the broken release tab, I'd check and later replace that cylinder's coil pack and would inadvertently press on injectors electrical connector which would temporarily reestablish connection. The engine would run perfectly for a while until vibrations disconnected the coil pack again. Very frustrating. Finally noticed the issue when the process of elimination led me to consider the fuel injectors as a source of misfire. Realizing how to disconnect the injector's electrical connection revealed the problem behind the issue.

Many thanks for this vid. I have a 2000 Crown Vic with a coolant leak I absolutely cannot find. I will definitely check this area for the leak. Thanks.

Same issue with my kids car.... Also replaced the intake manifold 2 years ago and it leaks again. #1 cylinder hole full of burnt crap then it fouls out the coil pack and triggers a misfire code. I'll try your permatex trick but I told the kid he needs to unload this money pit pig soon... Thanks for your video... Think I might invest in the coolant pressure leak tester....

Yea the coolant leak tester is a great tool! I haven't had an issue since sealing the #1 spark plug boot with permatex just add a cup or so of coolant every couple months lol

So what parts need to be changed for this repair?
@nightstorm9128

If it's oil then it's spark plug seals...if it's coolant then it's head gasket...

Coolant could be intake manifold

After market manifolds for these 4.6 will only last 2 to 3 years, they don't make oem anymore,, i been replacing mine on warranty,, if you are planning to keep vics,, marquis, towncars, mustang F 150, get ready for this repair periodically,,, bad design to put intake and coolant ports next to each other separated by a gasket they know is going to fail

I started my 98 crown Vic. A loud pop sound happen right after I cranked it up. Turned it off quickly. Then I smelt something burning. I tried cutting it back on. Which it did but it sounds rough. Almost like it’s misfiring. Sounds like a go cart damn nere. Any ideas on what this could be?

180K? It's not even broken in. Seriously, those engines and cars have been know to last past 500k. However, age does take a toll too.
