Lots of you have asked for a live demonstration of the Sparrows Double Door Tool (DDT) on some in-use doors. Well, here you go. As you can see the DDT works really well and VERY fast to bypass standard double doors in an office setting.

2 Methods to bypass similar doors with motion sensors to exit instead of crash-bars: -take a can of compressed air with the small tube, hold upside down and spray a cloud between the doors up towards the sensor. -take a large piece of cardboard with a "flap" and slide up between the doors.
@H2Orange_
@H2Orange_ Год назад
One guy showed me a similar trick was to take a stick or other long tool, put a towel or rag on the end of it and stick it through the doors and try to activate that sensor. Usually works

Bill, i just wanted to say thanks, for getting me into lock sport, and being someone we all can look up to. This is my new youtube name. Just pinning locks with custom pins, and trading them with other pickers. Gonna be getting a challenge lock pretty soon from Bobby Keys, and I'm sure he's gonna want a video of me picking it. And thats why i say I'm sure ill be doing videos eventually. .....But what you got in mind.? I might be willing to trade stock locks too depending on the situation if thats what you mean.
@washedupbondomonkey

I have one custom pinned American ptc12 on the way but the rest are stock. American 1106 with nasty spring tension, abus 72/40 6 pin with spools (I like swapping those 2 cores in each other's bodies), couple of master 150's master 400B (plastic tag out "training" lock) master 532, and the obligatory cheapies. All but cheapies have at least one key and most are new.
@jpmcpinning4255
@jpmcpinning4255 7 лет назад
Well it seams we pretty much have the same locks. Most likely cause we watch the same channel haha. I got a few 72/40s. A 80ti, and a bunch of Americans. But mine are 1100s..... the locks i make are mostly Schlage. And i cut security pins with files and a hand grinder..i like Schlage. i really want to get my hands on a Schlage Primus.

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!!!! "building managers don't like having to check their doors".... OH YES.... and I can PERSONALLY testify to the struggle of secure vs. "I want YOU to make it secure, but I don't want to have to do my job"... and don't get me started on the arguments about the cost of a coordinated closer system... (which, you really ONLY need if you don't want to do tests and maintenance occasionally on standard closers... all it takes is an hex wrench, a short step ladder, and about ten minutes, IF they're REALLY out of tune WTF is the big deal???... other than laziness of course.) I made something very similar to these myself years ago on the fly out of an MCOT tool (desperation played a part as well) to do an unlock where I could just NOT pick it (STILL don't know why, drives me nuts not knowing)... Liked the idea so much I still carry it in my vehicle... I've shown customers this exploit, I don't know HOW many times trying to make my case for coordinated closer systems, or at the VERY least an addition to a building maintenance checks (closers are NOT hard to time properly, no special tools needed, but they have to be checked) so that a guard can be installed.... They always say the same thing.... "well, but you're a locksmith, it's your JOB to know this stuff.... it's not like it's public knowledge.... Meanwhile, when I "invented" my version of the tool, that wasn't "magic locksmith knowledge"... just problems solving (and again, desperation) Here it is folks... on youtube... Free and easily accessible... for free... to everyone... and the tool is both easy to buy and easy to make (something that will get the job done)... AND requires NO special skill or practice to use... The days of "security by obscurity" are over.... The genie's out of the box, the tools are available to anyone... Get the good hardware, properly installed, and follow your security plan... OR eventually, you're gonna get compromised. THANK YOU for making video that makes the argument a LITTLE more winable for me in the future... (hopefully)

Many pass doors of that type have a REX (Request to EXit sensor) so that push to exit senses a person and shunts the alarm. By opening the door push-bar but not triggering the REX an audible alarm usually sounds.

@TokinWhiteKid
@TokinWhiteKid 7 лет назад
used to be able to get into the front door of the dorms by sliding a piece of paper between the doors towards the top to activate the motion sender from the inside to simulate someone trying to leave and unlock the door
@01cthompson
@01cthompson 6 лет назад
I realize I'm over a year late on this. But, at my office they place the motion sensor in the ceiling on the indoors side of the exit sign. You would need a fairly long stick to activate it. Also, no crash bar oddly. If the power goes out the doors unlock as the electromagnet loses power.

There are firedoors without the gap though, if you need more security: At my workplace, the door-closing mechanism has a lever that will not allow the door with the gap-cover to fully close until the other side has closed, thereby activating the lever and releasing the gap-cover-door. That adds another mechanism that can break of course, so it's always a tradeoff depending on what you're protecting and how nice it should look. And even with our extra secure doors at my work, we are required to lock everything with business value into cupboards, so it's not like those doors are your only line of security. Except for the genius who forgot to properly secure their gorram coffee!
@GaryCameron780

Sparrows was doing some clever marketing by saying if you don't know what it is, you don't need it. No one knows what ddt stands for here, until they go looking, because they were told it was none of their business. A subtle challenge, guaranteed to create some interest.

On the second crash door, the bolt is recessed from the edge of the door. My guess would be this allows the door to cover part of the post, hence no straight gap to put the DDT through. Is that why you showed it with an open door, Bill? ;) If the door covers the post on all sides (on the top and the bottom too), a way of opening is drilling a hole underneath the crash bar, sticking an umbrella through that hole, opening it and pulling. Do you know of a non-destructive way of accomplishing the same?
@billjohnson8078
@billjohnson8078 7 лет назад
No, I only showed it on the single door to show how to "feel" the position of the tool. I did not have another double fire door in that building to demo on. This tool will NOT work on single fire doors that have a door flange.

1:02 - I had thought that in the event of a power failure the doors would UNlock, not "lock down the doors". I know the systems can be setup either way. I had thought the code, at least in most of the U.S., was to unlock the doors. Does anyone know?

Depends on the security of the building. Most higher security buildings and things lockdown to prevent someone killing the power and just walking in.

This will open the door, but a good system would still alarm. The door alarm is always active, but when you stand next to the door, on the inside, to push the crash bar you trip a sensor that shunts the alarm while you exit. Using this type of bypass, from the outside, will not shunt the alarm. You'll get in but the alarm will trip. . . Stay safe, stay legal.
