Rain catchment system is the way to go. Catch that roof rain into a cistern. Don't forget you will have a pool to fill and keep full. Great project.

Hi Mike, Mark here in Australia. Down here rainwater collection is a no brainer. I live on a rural property and rain water supplies all our needs, both for drinking and farm use. Easy to set up, very low low cost and low maintanance. That shed would be an Aussie rain collectors dream. Have fun on the new toy!!

I worked with a water system for 30 years and now I have a well😂 my opinion I would put in a storage tank and fill it slowly or at night. You can definitely increase the volume and not tax your well doing it that way. '

When I lived in Australia, I had 3 @ 5000 gallon rainwater tanks, they were dug into the ground about 4 feet. The tanks sat below the gutters, so the water would drain into the tanks. The three tanks were plumbed together and the pipes were all full of water. I used a pressure pump to feed water to the house. I also had a pump on the well, which I used for watering the lawns and garden.

Hi Mike, I have probably missed this but I really like how you number your videos. It helps me from watching them out of order Other you tube channels don't number episodes and I'm bouncing back and forth and que up ones I've already watched and so on. The system you have sets you apart from other channels is a very good way. Let's just say your videos are viewer friendly. So I sincerely hope you continue to number them. Thanks

Mike. Throw a 1000 or 2000 gallon tank in the ground and plumb your dowspouts to it! A cistern is a great way to supply water to a building like that, especially if you're not depending on it for drinking water. If you want it for drinking water, there are inexpensive chlorination / filtration systems that you can add under the sink faucet. An inch of rainfall over a 60 x 100 building will give you about 3700 gallons of water, so I would think a cistern could work good for you.

At 3:00 you might as well harvest that tree. It's toast. It might take a while but it's worm food. I had not thought about it before, but all that force through the small bucket! Katie bar the door. People keep calling that PVC cement glue. It ain't! It creates a solvent weld as strong as the pipe and fittings used. You said it's about an hour's work with filming. That means 30 to 40 minutes for the rest of us. Good stuff, Mike and Melissa!

In rural New Zealand we have 2 30,000L (7,000 gallon) plastic rainwater collection tanks getting water off the home rooftop. We have relied on the rainwater for about 20 years, only brought water 4 times at a cost of $300 for 12,000L.. you’ve got a huge roof area there from your new building, you’ll fill the tanks in no time.

We have 2 x 6500 gallon (25000L) tanks that capture all of the rain water from out shed roof. We use the water for drinking, washing and showers and have yet to get the tanks down past half full. Almost everywhere in Australia there is a requirement with new buildings to have at least one rainwater tank plumbed through to the building..... makes a lot of sense here.

Mike: The PVC pipe couplers have a taper on the inside. The glue melts the PVC. You are not holding the pipe long enough after you stick the pipe into the connector. It takes a couple of seconds for the glue to harden. The taper is pushing the pipe back out of the coupler. This is clearly seen @12:16 . No purple was showing after pushing in the pipe. A lot of purple is showing after you release the pipe. Also, the pipe should be turned about an 1/8 of a turn after inserting to help spread the glue. So when you glue an angle, mark the final location of the joint and rotate to the marks.

We’ve been on a well and septic for over 20 yrs. Never had a problem and don’t miss the monthly bill. One of our neighbors just tapped into city water and I believe it was about $50,000 for the switch. I can buy 2,000 gal of water for $65 (which i need about 6-8 times a year), so I can’t see the need to switch any time soon.

All I had to drink when I was a kidf out on the farm was raiun water stored in huge taks. Infact the whole house ran on it. With the roof space u have on that shed u should put in a couple of huge water tanks with a filtration system. It would be a good back up for your well & it does make nice drinking water.

Yes, i would do some investigation into a rainwater setup. Brian, mentioned a couple of 5500 gallon tanks. I think that is a little much for what you are going to need but alittle more than what you need is ok. The two filters and sonic cleaning is good. I know what a pain the lack of water is. Growing up we had a 15 foot deep hand dug well, two adults and 3 kids. If you ran the shower water more than 7-8 minutes you would here my dad !!!!!

Love the new machine. What I like is you gain a half a day every project not having to run to the rental place, unload, get accustomed to someone else's equipment, and reload and chain down again to take back when finished. Just like in yesterdays video, you will probably find a lot of uses for it you never thought of.

Mike, I live NE Ohio and live in a house built in 1954 and all I have is a cistern, rain fed, that is inground with a volume of around 9000 gallons. When I moved here 6 years ago. Feb 2015, I had 2000 gallons of water delivered and 4 months later another 2000 gallons. I have not required a water delivery since. I use the water for showering, bathing, washing clothes and the dishwasher. Because I don't have a good filtering system hooked up, I prefer buying a few cases of drinking water a month from the local Aldi's which is not that expensive. This year I may put in a whole house filtering system. Not sure about using it for drinking but possibly ....Cisterns are great. My parents used them long long ago along with my grandparents....

I put in a cistern - 1000 gallon precast similar to a septic tank - fed from a French drain system that collects water from a natural slope of the surrounding ground. The tank has an overflow so it stays topped off all the time - great for watering trees and washing off farm equipment. Seems like the tank was roughly $1000.
