In this video I'm comparing two fantastic ultra-wide angle lenses: Brightin Star 9mm f5.6 and the Sony 12-24 f4 G. As a landscape and astrophotographer the Sony was my main go to lens and wanted to test myself if the extra 3mm justifies a new lens and if the Brigthin Star lens stands up agains the Sony lens.
The test was full of surprises, feel free to leave your comments what else would you be interested and if you also have the dilemma to go wider all the time!
You can download the RAW files for your own experiments:

You can buy the lens here (you support me with buying the lens via this link, I appreciate it)

Pure coincidence that I stumbled upon this video. I've literally been comparing these two lenses to figure out which one to get permanently. Thank you for this video and for going through what you'd use it for. I'm still in the beginning stages of my photography journey, but this definitely helps. I feel like I'd buy both, but knowing that the Brightin star is good at its price point helps with going with it first.

I wish you loads of pleasure with your photography journey, I'm sure you'll have so much fun. The 12-24 is a great lens, after checking my images and the focal length I've used, it was 95% at 12mm. So it was not a question for me if a wider, but great lens hits the market I'll suffer keeping the 12-24...and the day has come :D If you need any help or support, let me know ;)

@@laszlobella-lighthunters thank you for your response and kind words. I actually rented the 12 - 24 and the 16 - 35 pz F4 both of these lenses will be coming on Friday and I'm excited to test them I'm anticipating liking the 12 - 24 more because of its wider range . I'd still like to take a look at the Brighton star at some point but I'm looking more so into a zoom lens right now. I also appreciate you extending support if need be. I've taken a look at your website and plan to sign up for a session whenever I can. Keep up the great work it is what you needed and appreciated.

If you rented the 16-35 and the 12-24 you'll understand why you want to go always wider :D I had the 16-35 the Zeiss though, was a great lens, but limited creativity. I would say below 14mm you can start playing with the perspectives a lot, that is why I'm amazed how big is the difference between 12 and 9mm. Thanks again for the positive words, appreciate it a lot! Your channel is also great I was surfing there ;)

So far, I'm liking the 12 to 24 much more. I've been using both, and I feel that the 16-35 pz is too busy with everything it has on that lens. If I had to choose right now, I would definitely take the 12-24 but I'm still curious about the 9mm. You're welcome in terms of what I said. Your video seriously helped in my decision. Thanks for visiting my channel also and by the way I saw your website and will looking into booking a session in the future. I feel like I could learn a lot from it.

Laszlo what size filter do you use in front the sony 12-24mm and can you use this technigue also for polarizing filters ?

I was interested in the 7 Artisans version until I saw that this one has the option for an ND filter. That's essential for video, so I'm more inclined to go with this lens (they're probably made at the same factory anyway).

looks good mate its a shame you cannot buy 34mm nd filters separately because nobody makes them so if you need 3 stop or 6 stop then you will need to find another hack.

With all respect, in what universe is f4 12-24 zoom a comparison point for a 9mm f5.6 prime? If all you want is super UW, then you should not have bought the Sony which shines in its versatility. Very different lenses with very distinct use cases.
