9x12 Gel Prints -Tutorial Tidbits

Elizabeth, buy Murphy's oil soap. Soak the brayer (works with stencils and brushes too) overnight (or longer depdening on the paint buildup) in hot water and the soap. The acrylic layers will come off easily.

I bought some really cheap acrylic paint from the dollar store and it makes beautiful blooms when you spread it thin. I wouldn’t vouch for the colorfastness of the product but it’s fun to play with with the kids and this big kid right here (me)!

You can't go wrong with any Speedball brayers. I also splurged on a Speedball brayer when I first started experimenting with a gel plate.

I love all this beautiful collage paper however I am not sure what to do with it all. Is it torn up for creating another picture? How can I use it as a whole?

Hi Elizabeth, at first I thought maybe you could contact the rice paper company and ask them to make a different size pad that coincides with the gel-plate or ask the gel-plate folks to make one that fits your rice paper…but, on second thought, that didn’t seem like a realistic solution (although, I’m sure you’ve help sell a ton of that rice paper so perhaps they actually would do that - never hurts to ask). Anyway, in the meantime, what if you cut down the size of your rice paper to the exact size of your gel-plate and then use the extra strips to lay side-by-side on the plate or to fill the gap when you use the larger gel-plate? That way you’d have extra strips of collage paper for your stash that are not ever wasted. :-). PS- I so far only got 3 mins in, lol, so now I need to watch the rest.
