A$AP Ant: Real Baltimore is Worse Than "The Wire" 

I arrived to Baltimore back in ‘73, after my military discharge. A city job was waiting for me and I took it instead of returning home to Brooklyn NY. I knew nothing about the city, other than it being the home of the Orioles & the Bullets. My first impression was that folks drove pink cadillacs and lots of black dudes walked around with gold caps on their teeth. Then I gradually grew to become fond of the place. Plenty of women were available too! Only negative about the city was the closing of establishments (with liquor licenses) at 2 a.m. Now the roller skating rinks? Absolutely awesome! (Greatest skaters in the world skated at Painters Mills Roller Rink in Owings Mills). I remember the groundbreaking for Harbor Place that gave the city international recognition. I returned to New York in ‘81 and always called Baltimore my second home. Encouraged friends and co-workers to take short weekend trips there. They did, and they loved it. Then the mid-eighties ushered in a new era for Baltimore. The closing down of Sparrows Point and shuttering of other major industries meant thousands of jobs eliminated for the residents. Whole blocks became blighted with boarded up homes. And of course the crack epidemic devastated the city as crime became the norm. While I do like the downtown Horseshoe Casino and find it to be an exciting place, I make it my business to avoid Baltimore City.

From looking at these comments, I can tell ya'll haven't come in contact with Baltimore people often. I admit, the multiple "you feel me"'s, the multiple "yo"'s, etc. can get annoying, but we talk like that. And NO, Baltimore is not apart of the DMV. The DMV is basically the metropolitan area of DC. That's DC, parts of MD that includes PG & Montgomery Co., and Northern VA. Baltimore is it's own entity. We talk different, look different, but for the most part, act the same lol.

Baltimore is crazy its literally a war zone Bmore the only place where you can see a dude in the morning and literally by night he dead. I pray for people out there they don't deserve to live under those conditions.

I'm from the D.C. area (Montgomery County) and Baltimore is definitely NOT apart of the DMV......Maryland is a divided state....you have the D.C. area (Montgomery, Prince Georges county and Northern Virginia) and then you have Baltimore which is completely seperate

I'm from Baltimore and live here now. It's not 10 times worse. That's exaggerating. It's bad areas just like everywhere else. The wire represented a piece of some concentrated areas here. The show was pretty accurate though. For the record everyone in B-more doesn't talk like that. That accent is heavier in east Baltimore.
