Good job, well explained, well shot, and good detail and exactly what I was looking for and in the process of doing. The gate works well, not very expensive and isn't bad to look at. I tip my hat to you sir, good job, and thank you for posting.
I screwed up and got the cheap metal gate, 1 5/8. Lots of sag but I am on a slope, 2 way, and using a support wheel nut since making a board outer I can use the spring loaded one. Yes, can drill thru pipe but I suspect adjustment later so easier to adjust with wood. Also, that anchor screw sucks. The male is a bit small compared to the fence female hole. That is where a lot of slack came from. Used an anchor from a pipe fence and the lug was a lot thicker. Worst case a 1/2 bolt will work with some modification. A lot better than making 2 5 foot gates which those suckers are heavy if built to withstand windy areas. Later you can add an actuator like I saw another guy do.
Nice job. I would suggest that where you decided to notch for the wheel attachment you consider a patch using fence material to make that less noticeable. It kind of screams look at me right now.
i bought the same gate only bigger but i built a sub wood frame that the pickets mounted to so the wood part is basically mounted on the gate. didn't want the screws to cause rust and then pickets start falling off or my dogs could bust thru and get out!!
I had the same problem with these stupid fence companies not wanting to come out. You seem like a do-it-yourself kind of guy anyway this might not be the solution for my yard but I appreciate you making the video and showing the details
I am highly considering doing this! Tractor supply will deliver right to the house. Are the self tapping screws 1 1/2" phillips , star, or ratchet style? We plan to put a solar opener on it if this works out!
I have chain link fence posts already set, will this be too heavy for them? The section over my driveway to enclose is 10ft. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and possible recommendations!!
@@LabelSeven thanks .. I do think this is the route I'm going to take .. I don't have much room for a huge post so I'm trying to figure out my best options
You should be ok with a 4x4 just make sure there isn’t much weight on the gate. If you don’t care about looks you could always cover the bottom with chicken wire instead to keep pets contained then it won’t be very heavy and a 4x4 should be fine!
