@@smokey-smore 2 years ago maybe, today Gav and Dan has a Phantom v1610 that can shoot up to 1,000,000 frames per second. So a GAU-8 firing 65 bullets/s with a muzzle velocity of 3324 ft/s would almost be boringly slow to watch. Edit: Filming 1 second or 65 bullets would take about 4 hours and 40 minutes to watch at normal speed if filmed at a million FPS.

Just set the video speed to additional 0,25.

@@justina6176 No they werent. Parts-bin, but anything military is a parts-bin cause they're abused to all hell, even jets. Soldiers hated them because 1] the guys in the pentagon didnt have to ride on that stadium seat pad through the desert all day so they never put better seats in the budget for wider use (some had better seats) 2] they were shoehorned into being semi-armored transport when the original doctrine was just to have a fast moving, very capable 4x4, and tough workhorse to use between bases and other FOBs and do light scout work....so they got blown to bits fairly regularly. Add insult to injury, the pentagon attempted to update them to fit the new role a couple times but it still got soldiers killed. All those deaths and maimings when a hundred armored warhorses were sitting on draft tables waiting for the next budget committee. They still didnt get anything better till the conflict was fizzling out and a major drawback was happening. The vehicle was practical, efficient, and reliable (comparatively), but they should have been relegated to their original doctrine fairly early in the war on terror.

They're not that bad. Basically a rental car. Just don't get caught doing stupid shit with them and you're good.

@@davidsmith8086 While i agree with you that the pentagon probably did too little to get more resilient equipment in sufficient numbers it's also a bit hard for me to see what they could have done dramatically different. It's not that simple to develop test produce armored transporters and then ship them at a moments notice. Most of the losses occured during patrols when the active war itself was over. And that is always a tricky situation to be in. Can't really patrol the market of a village with a M1 tank. I mean theoretically you could to some degree but that might not exactly deescalate the situation and is certainly not "winning hearts and minds"... So you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place in this scenario... So the problem occured in my opinion with the thought that winning the active shooting war is winning the conflict as a whole. And nobody realised that you need a plan for the time after surrender before the first shots are fired otherwise you're late on that part and always running somewhat behind.

As i recall the 30mm API rounds for the A-10's GAU-8 are rate for 76mm penetration at 1,000m. In other words, any tank's roof and any IFV's sides are fair game, before you bring DU rounds into the picture. Add to this an airframe designed to eat a missile and stay in the air, and it can be all kinds of fun for anyone moving subsonic

Specially on this plane. The gun is so powerful that the recoil has more power than one of the plane engines. Therefore the plane has a stabilizing aid which keeps the plane on target as long as you push fire. Otherwise you'd just spray the entire area with bullets.

@@yvonrobillard5479 these "superior sonic Jets" are taken care of by SAM-Units and air superiority fighter, like for example the F-22, F-16 or F-15. The A-10 is a close range support aircraft, meant to support the ground units against a heavy armored assault and to break entrenched enemy positions. It's not meant to go into a dog fight with other Airplane, in fact when the A-10 goes into the Air, there are probably no enemy aircraft near, aside from enemy attack helicopters which full fill the same role. You want an Aircraft like the A-10 to be slow and efficient, so it can circle over the battlefield for a long time to support the ground units. Aircraft that fulfill a similar role are the AH-64 attack helicopter or AC-130 gunship, the former is lighter and the latter is basically flying artillery. The Russian pendant is the "Frogfoot" if I remember correctly. Which isn't much faster, as it is intended for the same role.

They dont fly with hundreds of them in a formation. That is something long range bombers might do but these are ground attack infantry support planes. They work in very close proximity to friendly ground troops. Often times attacking enemy just a few hundred meters from their own guys. Having too many would put your troops in serious risk of friendly fire. Only one or two at a time will do a fly by and soften up enemy positions close to ground forces so they can advance.

I second this. It's a dummy GBU-12. If you can (somehow) manage to stop the vid at the correct frame with the bomb in the air just before impact (around 3:08 ), you can see the front of the bomb is white wich would be the paveway II guidence kit of the GBU-12. A MK-82 would have been completely blue apart from the tail! Also it looks longer then a MK-82, but that could be because of the speed it's traveling at.
