Damn right! I recall hearing a pilot saying that the best weapon of the A10 isn't it's firepower, but the psicological effect it has on hostiles (and friendly units morale!)

Well keep in mind we have been dealing with uncontested airspace for the last decade or so. If we ever do find ourselves fighting a near peer enemy, I'm pretty sure that the ground troops will have a slightly less favorable view of the A-10 after learning that yet another one had been reduced to a burning wreck.

It's amazing that the A-10 has been depicted in movies many many times yet they have always failed to convey the awe-inspiring buzz of the Avenger cannon. Movie audio effects always trot out some generic machine gun sound. The true life sound is far more compelling.

I'm so fascinated by this aircraft's unique design. It's different with engines on the top of the fuselage. These days I can't help thinking about how ''Cost/Effective'' things are. I imagine these aircraft firing $10. dollar bills out of the cannon. I think Walmart is having a Xmas sale on Drones, only $29.95. Merry Xmas. .

It may cost a few dollars for the rounds, but in terms of operational costs (maintenance, training, fuel burn, etc..) these are among the most cost effective aircraft in our inventory. The top brass is saying the F35 will replace them... I have a hard time seeing an F-35 performing CAS like the hogs. I would love to see if an F-35 can also take the same damage an A-10 can and survive.

There's actually a proposal to transfer the planes to either the US Army or the National Guard, both of which are interested in the plane (and willing to get it), so a switch of owners is not impossible, but it still requires the green lights from the Pentagon and Washington bigwigs (transferring still costs money).

The Air Force says it is phasing out the A-10 because it is no longer useful. Then why is it the most requested aircraft when our grunts on the ground need CAS? If the USAF doesn't want them, then give them to the Marines. They could make good use of this proven platform. It already looks like a Marine aircraft.
