@@RexStang tecnicaly, no, i dont remember the specifics, but for quite a while there was a visual indicator for slime chunks on some versions, i think it was for the xbox 360 ver, but it wasnt anywhere as clear, like, you needed to play whit max particles and it would make the tiny grey dots on the air a bit greener a bigger
I love the mysterious spooky stuff, I'm pretty sure it's just something with older Minecraft it was just really screwed with when or how sounds played. another RU-vidr, cscoop, has also dealt with the breaking block sound or like someone was walking towards him or others, he calls it the phantoms since there's other weird spooky bugs that kinda make the game look haunted
You captured the essence of old minecraft playtroughs, i really felt like i travelled 10 years back and was watching my favourite minecraft youtuber start his new series, altough i agree with you about the topic of this video, I also enjoy modern minecraft more
I play both BTA and Vintage Story, both have their place and unique appeal. Used to host a server for VS, still do for BTA (1 year in and going strong).
I think the real answer is modern and beta are completely different games for a completely different audience. Beta was a simple "survival fantasy sandbox" where it really was just a sandbox with a basic survival twist (once you got the diamond tools and go to the nether there were no more milestones). The blocky style really played into the whole "fantasy" aspect too, which I think BTA really captures with its dungeons, auroras, and biome types. The whole playstyle + workflow is completely different to modern. There are no achievements, no automation, no trading, which in modern Minecraft provides a more goal-oriented playstyle. Without any of those goals, or for that matter anything specific that you "should" or "could" do, you really are on your own to just... build. Also, I've noticed a shift in the player base too, and a lot of the people who play Minecraft now probably would have never given it a shot in beta, and vis versa (a lot of people have stopped playing). Perhaps why this question is so polarizing.
@@RexStanghonestly the 1.13 c418 tracks were good issue is we haven’t grown up with those tracks so it doesn’t have the nostalgia power the base tracks have
The issue is: composers who aren't trying to emulate c418's style (except that one Japanese guy) and biome specific music. I hate biome specific music with a passion.
@@RexStangNot sure if you mean the originals or the 1.16. The originals worked because its a totally different dimension. I'm fine with 1.16's music, but I absolutely hate how it receives preferential treatment. If you sit in a nether-waste it'll play rubedo a million times before you hear any of the originals (that I much prefer). I never heard any of the 1.13 music because I never made an ocean base, but I imagine the biome specific issue just as bad.
The question I want answered is not: Is beta better than modern minecraft? Instead, why do people gave fun in old minecraft with less when modern minecraft has so much to offer? You made a bugger house just so your dog could live in there with you. A si ple motivation you gave yourself. Minecraft Beta didn't make you do that, you chose to be creative and care about your home and pets. There is no way to make players more creative. With minecraft leaning more and more into an explorer game with combat, it's easy to forget that it was a sandbox first, and that you have to use your imagination in the sand box. Or you'll get bored after two weeks.
@@Houndnwolf I think that the 1Y1W series has really taught me how to have fun in Minecraft again. I plan on making a full video on it sometime soon, but starting out in older versions taught me how to just slow down and build for the sake of having fun, and I’ve carried that same spirit into the later versions. Like I said in the video, I don’t think that Beta is better. What people, myself included, really miss is the “beta sprit” Minecraft is a sandbox game and in the modern version it’s easy to get caught up in progression and exploration. Thank you for the comment.
Brother that’s a you problem. You just stop enjoying things sometimes. People who are new to Minecraft do not have that experience. Don’t be a sad nostalgia sniffer
@@CaneRosssoTbf he doesn’t even say beta is better than modern in the video, he just mentioned it being kind of fresh and having some slight differences to change stuff up, which I kind of agree with. I think most people’s issue with modern Minecraft is that they get all caught up in the drama and competitiveness and kind of forget to just play the game lol.
@@CaneRossso Sorry, I got a bit heated. What I mean is that getting motivation from Minecraft and creating your own motivation is the current struggle of the game. Everyone claims the game has changed but the core of this sandbox game is saying “I want to make thing thing exist” and then doing it without the game holding your hand. Intrinsic motivation. That’s is what we need and the game isn’t going to give that to us.
Just found your channel and this was the vid that brought me to it and I gotta say W content love to see more people taking part in more of the unique Minecraft gameplays Keep it up!!
i subbed because of how underrated u are. you don't fill the video with edits and i like simpler videos better. you'll probably see me in the comments of ur vids
The dogs can hold ITEMS in their mouth???! I guess I didn't know this is a modern minecraft fox feature till my bf pointed it out. Dogs should have it too, That is so adorable, how is that not in the game!
just a tip for in game music, maybe turn down your game sounds if you will have music over the top :) otherwise you get 2 songs trying to fight it out I liked the video over all good work!
0:06 how is it that you can pretend to challenge the idea saying "are they right?" and then proceed to say "im gonna answer that question by playing A BETA MOD"
The only problem with this video is the music. You added background music, but the music from the actual game footage was still there. It created this weird effect where both tracks mix together, and it gets kind of chaotic. That's really the only thing to critique from this awesome playthrough. It's really chill and not overly edited. Keep up the great work!
@@RexStang No problem. The way I see it, you could still add music edited in, and just mute music from the actual game. If you still want to listen to music in the game, you could have that stay on and just not add music while editing. It's really up to you. Thanks for being so conscious about feedback!
"If you really want to, you can do the same builds in modern Minecraft" Yeah... but it never ends up working that way. You end up building a farm, then another farm, then another farm, then another farm...
bc of you putting the songs name in this viedo i feal like i was 11 years old kid that was watching one of the first minecraft viedos .Keep doing good work m8
I wouldn't say one is better than the other to be honest. Each have their own unique charm, and I'm so torn between whether I prefer the classic atmosphere of BTA or the variety and cool generation in the newer versions. This video was really enjoyable though, there's something so relaxing about just building, finding out new stuff, and having fun without worrying about progression.
@@magma6865 Yes I agree 100%. I love to play the older versions but there are just so many things I miss from the newer updates. Playing the modern game the same way you play beta is fun for me. Your main goal is to build whatever sounds fun, not get maxed tools or a bunch of gimmicky mechanics.
One very useful BTA feature you missed is pressing Z(ed) to lock the block placement rotation in the direction you were facing while pressing the button. 0:14 That's cool, that splash screen is of my server's spawn! I do feel that the 7.1 backgrounds are a bit better than the 7.2 ones. 7.2 generally seems a bit buggier or quirkier, but it's still a good version. And the colour lighting is incredible, though unfortunately not enabled by default. Food now has limited stacks, pork being limited to 4 items per stack. 2:39 Unfortunately, that just happens on Windows when using an AMD graphics card. It's a memory leak in AMD's OpenGL 2 driver, this is a non-issue with other GPUs or on Linux (though intel ones are buggy in 7.2). AMD won't fix this, so it'll only be fixed once BTA moves to OpenGL 3 eventually. BTA really is an incredible mod, polishing the Beta game-feel to modern standards. Unfortunately the server software is a bit rough to keep going due to random partial world corruptions, which you also suffered in singleplayer. This is getting better and my last one on 7.2 fixed itself to becoming playable again, but I still properly resolved it manually. Even still, the way BTA feels and the community around it makes it worthwhile to host a server for it, even after 1 full year at this point. And after the 19.84 update along with generally preferring BTA, I do not intend to host a modern MC server again. This server's world also has some larger oceans, though not as massive as the bugged Beta world generation made it.
Very nice, I think what most people (myself included) like about old minecraft is there was a lot less ways to just farm the shit out of everything. There wasn't enchantments so no XP farms needed, no villagers so no way to just farm trades to get high level gear etc etc. It just leaves you in the world with yourself to explore and find things to do.
@@TranscendentalAirwaves Ya, when I played 1.0 it was fun to have basically no enchantments and as weird as it sounds, having to mine and everything by hand was kinda fun.
Liked this video! I relate to your opinion on this mod. BTA is a nice change of pace but it doesn't need a direct comparison with modern Minecraft. We need to appreciate projects like these for what they are.
This video was such a pleasant watch! Your builds were so fun, and the way you flexed your creativity was so cool to see. Would love to watch more videos like this! I would totally watch a survival series in the same vein as some old lets plays too!
I prefer beta for the old world generation and because it has lesser blocks, which makes me much more creative, in modern minecraft I get oversaturated and end up building nothing I still enjoy modern for technical minecraft, mods, and playing with friends, It's not better or worse, it's just different Also nice video
i love that you played it for 12 hours and not just speddrun it, minecraft beta modded or not modded is slow (gameplay) so 12 hours are the minimum to review it. you should try playing not modded beta 1.7.3 it way different than bta.
You can place a chest next to the trommel (on the side with the hole) and it will put the items in there, it also gives you different stuff depending on what you put in (for example, you can get iron from gravel)
I definitely think a beta style texture pack should be made by Mojang and I feel like that will bring some nostalgia back but I loved the video man keep up the good work :)
The Programmer Art texture pack (built into Minecraft) is basically what you want. This plus something like Golden Days to give old-ish textures to new blocks.
Ah BTA my beloved. My favorite part of older versions is the community that gets built in servers. I've played on 2 servers for longer periods and in both people built towns. By that I mean they built only a few blocks from one another. I could probably write a whole paper worth of analysis on why this is the case. Overall I definitely enjoy BTA more than Modern, I have 500hrs in BTA and thousands in Modern. To give my 2 cents on why I like BTA more than modern is because I like mining, I like the way builds are lovingly ugly, and I like the varied gameplay loop. Modern MC doesn't really offer me that. In modern I play 2 hours getting diamonds and enchanting a good pickaxe then getting an elytra, maybe 2 more hours, and I'm done getting stuff. Then I start really building whatever I want, except that's all I do. I may be alone in this but I get tired of placing blocks, crafting blocks, managing my inventory, mending my tools. Modern survival is just creative with less tools to me. For people who have huge building aspirations its great, or for people who aren't as good at the game (die more often and progress more slowly). As for actually building I like the simpler block selection of BTA, I'm not even close to good enough at building to leverage the expansive block list Modern MC offers. For me, my builds in Modern MC make me feel bad at building, after all I know it could be A LOT better if someone else built it. In BTA the build skill ceiling isn't nearly as high so I tend to be much happier with what I achieve. For those reasons I like BTA more. I realize I'm in the minority with that opinion, so let me know what draws you to modern in the replies! Maybe the more advanced redstone, more varied blocks, more interesting mobs, etc.
20:20 I like to recommend you the modpack "Better Beta", it's in CurseForge, the modpack it's modern minecraft whit beta gameplay, you can't run, you don't have hunger bar, same beta textures, sounds, and it brings Herobrine too, but you can eliminate him whit CurseForge Launcher. The modpack is fun asf
Beta has more of a vibe to it and a different endgame (just diamond tools). The worse looking graphics actually make a lot of the builds look better in my opinion.
If it isn't a bother, could you update the description with the songs used in the video? I really liked some of them and wish I could add them to my playlist, oh, almost forgot to mention, great video! I really like BTA and it's nice to see people enjoy it!
Eh, I'd say that you could take all the cool new features this mod adds and put them into a Vanilla + pack. Other than that, it's hard to say I'd want to play a mod that just removes features. I can sorta see where they are coming from with the "simpler" design mentality, but in modern Minecraft you can still be creative if you CHOOSE to do so.
i really like the video my only complaint is that a lot of the time the background music will be mixed with the music of the game. i would recommend removing the music from the game audio bcs of mixing and everytime you cut it the music changes
Beta isn't better, its nostalgic. Theres a difference better is objectively worse due to being a beta but beyond that modern minecraft allows you to have a sandbox better then beta but beta is nostalgic and that drives people to remember it better then it actually was. You can still like it and play it all you want that is the beauty of Minecraft java but still give credit to mojang for improving the sandbox with each update for free in ways that are good and not bad.
