Okay these tenere 700 videos and reviews have just got to stop! I've had a tenere 1200 for 5 years and thought nothing could pry it away from me at least in the next few years... But all these videos are making me want one pretty bad! We have long haul Paul and Ryan F9 giving shining endorsements for this bike what more could one want? I wasn't really wanting to downsize per se as far as displacement goes on long trips but this bike looks like it handles it no problem. I wouldn't mind a lighter bike just for flick ability and I'm not that young anymore... I give it a couple more years I think and I'll probably be doing it!

I've got a dr650 with less HP and torque than the ten..I can do 130kmh(85mph) on the highway no sweat fully loaded with camping gear(legends say I hit 160 at one point on the same trip, can't confirm or deny that). I imagine the ten handles the highway pretty good.

Well done Sir. I sulute you. In 1979, I rode 769 miles from San Francisco to Lakewood, Washington in one day. Once I got off my 1978 Suzuki GS 1000, I felt like I had been on a horse even though I had never ridden a horse. I was much younger then. I don't think my rear end would hold up to that many miles in one day now. Lol.

@longhaulpaul

ExpeditionaryRanger like everything in life, I think the more you get out there and ride, the safer you become and more skills you gain because of the added experience only time offers. In comparison, I consider myself to be a terrible automobile driver and getting worse every year. Last year I only logged 1200 miles in a car! If I only drive 10 miles to the gym once a week, I'm not getting any experience and the skills I once had are duller than the spatula that comes with an Easy-Bake oven. Miles and hours on the bike and riding every day makes riding much safer which in turns increases the fun and enjoyment.

I m guessing there is no way it is more comfortable on road than the S10. This still give the T7 a lot of credit to be more true to dual sporting with better trail capabilities but still be quite good on the super slab. Impressive. This has now sold me on the S7. I never used the cruise control. Not a fan. So a throttle lock is more than enough for what I use it for. I've got a taller windshield and hand guards, so not a huge amount of wind. The winter riding might be more noticeable with my feet and legs not having the engine heat and floorboards to keep the ice and snow from freezing on me.

How about final CONFORTABLE SPEED and overtake power? I Ask because I am in the market for a Yamaha SUPER TENERE 1200, but I am considering the 700 as power factor is not really a big deal as I do LOTS of LONG DISTANCE. THANKS A LOT
@longhaulpaul
@longhaulpaul 3 года назад
Hello. I now have 22,000 miles on the bike. Almost exclusively long distance with 10 plus days of over 1000 miles. I have added a custom seat, taller windscreen and a aux fuel tank to make those 16 hour days a little better. I use a $25 Vistacruise throttle lock. The T7 is faster and smoother than the 1200. The 1200 is better suited for two up travel with more room for a passenger for extended hours.

At 80 it's about 6200rpm. Zero vibrations. Mirrors crystal clear up to 100mph. After 100, starts to have minor vibes in the grips, but not annoying until 120 or so, the 21" wheel with 50/50 tires not suited for hours above 100mph. With Street tires, Bridgestone A41's, no issue any speeds.

I know the bigger machines have been around for many years now and it'll always be a personal choice but I do believe the middleweights are not given their due credit with regard to their huge touring ability. The "lure of the cubes" is indeed appetising but there really is no doubt that in terms of practicality, virtually nothing is lost in using a middleweight for cross continental work and it always makes off-road adventuring (surely the whole point of exciting long distance/international touring) much more realistic and achievable especially solo.

I bought one o' these in February 2022. I'll be keeping it a long time. Sometimes, less is most definitely more! Superb machines!

Chandler Fihn I had cheap grip rest thingy. I've never been comfortable using cruise control on any vehicle I've had.

So, I take it the seat was okay after all? 1200 miles in one day... that's really something! Very inspirational! I just added you to Instagram. By the way, I have a 2021 Tenere on order. My local dealer won't get it until this fall though.

Brilliant....that was some ride!. It really is a terrific bike, it was such a good move to use the MT07 engine . What's even better is that the do it all , go anywhere T7 has real character!, I was worried it would be a bit bland but it's a joy to own...Cheers, Steve

Great video Paul. I have an FJR1300a and travel on it, but am considering a second machine or a replacement. Sterling Noren's channel "The Motorcycle Travel Channel", is dedicated to adventure travel, and I've been watching his videos for a few years. So I'm getting the yen for switching over to an ADV bike, that I can switch up on for on and light off roading. Very impressed with your 1200 mile day. That rivals my 952 mile day on my FJR. Yamaha is producing, I believe, the best long distance travel bikes of anyone. BMW is the premier to many, as well as of course the Goldwing in it's class, but I know no-one that hasn't had a BMW breakdown, and let's face it that's the bottom line. If your machine has you standing on the side of the road waiting on a tow truck, I don't care how darn pretty it is, forget it. I believe, and I've been riding for 44 years, that Yamaha has the best game going on. The Tenere 700 was in a middleweight ADV bike shootout, in which everything else of the five bikes were at least $4000 more expensive. All the professional riders involved praised the T7 for it's capability and value. At least two of the other bikes I wouldn't have given a second look either, because one was a BMW and the other a Guzzi. BOTH maintenance pigs. Great video video brother. Keep the rubber rolling.

Good review from a adventure touring perspective. At 7:00, take your RU-vid moneys and get some acting lessons.... JK... Take that thing over the Alpine Loop in CO. Recently did it 2up on a Vstrom 650.... Hoping the T700 makes it a little easier. BTW, those N. Ga, TN, and NC backroads are my backyard. The Vstrom 650 also does well on those roads (Black Tires Matter). Where the Vstrom is weak is on the highway.

NICE VIDEO THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INSITES, Hope your still rolling around the NE some place... I'm down here in the Boston area thinking about a new T7 in 2023 .. Im wondering what YOUR must haves would be for a T7 that will be Primarily a Hiway Bike with a few dirt roads tossed in, ITS New England HAHAHAHA ........ I'm coming off a KLR 650 and think the T700 will be the perfect step up for me before I get too old for long travel... HAHAHA
